[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Extension Talks with Mike Boss are at a Standstill[/div]
[div align=\\\"center\\\"]A Pistol News Network (PNN) Exclusive[/div]

Breaking news coming out of Orange County this morning, as a source close to the situation claims that the Orange County Otters are at a standstill in extension talks with star quarterback Mike Boss.

Season Four free agency appears to be steadily gaining traction. Many of the players from the NSFL's inaugural draft will be coming to the end of their rookie contracts, with many looking to test the waters of free agency. There are several more, however, that have already taken the time to sign extensions with their respective teams. Mike Boss, the league's leading passer might not be a part of the second group.

A source within the Orange County organization has leaked that they contacted Boss early in the season, inquiring about an extension. Boss, in what appears to be one of the bravest and riskiest moves we've seen, expressed his interest in seeing what some of the other quarterbacks were going to be offered before penning the dotted line. Boss has gone the route of Joe Flacco, putting a historic performance on the field in his contract year, possibly pricing himself out of Orange County.

To make things worse, talks have completely broken down with Boss about an extension. The latest peep about the matter came after the Otter's recent man-handling of the Hawks in Baltimore, a game in which Boss went 30 of 40 for 427 yards and 5 touchdowns to carry the Otters to a stunning 55-23 victory away from the safety of home. An Otter's head office member was quoted as saying "Wow, great game guys, but c'mon Boss, how are we supposed to afford you now?!"

Boss, showing quite a bit of wisdom, kept quiet about the incident, refusing to be goaded into returning to the negotiation table after such an emotional triumph. Boss continues to keep quiet on the situation, keeping his head down while preparing to carry the Otters to what could be their third playoff appearance. The San Jose Sabercats are in close pursuit, so Boss will need to be at the top of his game to ensure a playoff berth. If Boss can continue putting in the historic performances, perhaps the Otters will actually have a chance to dethrone the two-time defending Ultimus Cup Champions, Arizona Outlaws.

But what will happen at the end of the season? Through nine weeks, Boss has been a bright spot on the already shining Otters. Without Boss throwing to them, will league-leading receivers Robert Phelps and Bradley Westfield continue putting up fantastic numbers? Will the offense be able to make up for the short-comings of the sometimes struggling defense? Will Leroy Jenkins and Erlich Burnsman, the teams talented running backs, be offered the reigns to the offense, hoping to carry the ball, and team, to the endzone?

The options outside of Boss are grim indeed. There are talented QBs available in the DSFL, and perhaps some of the other leaugue QBs will join Boss in free agency, but do they hold a candle to the potential the Otters have with Boss at the helm? Fans around Orange County shiver to think that they might be stuck pursuing a band-aid option instead of Boss, the likeliest candidate for Offensive MVP.

If the Otters can't land Boss, the alternative options look grim indeed. With so much of the team's success riding on the shoulders of Mike Boss, shouldn't they have already done everything they could to hold on to him? Time will tell, but the Otter really need to get the ball rolling on an extension, or their chances for season four, and for several seasons after, look dead in the waters of free agency.

They could always ask if Bercovici is available... I'm sure a bag of deflated balls and a conditional pick could do the trick....

Holy shit. We might actually have a free agency.

If that pick is a guitar pick, that's a reasonable deal.

Otherwise y'all need to lower your asking price. Dramatically.

When you can re-sign a RB to a new massive contract, but can't do the same for your QB a season later...
