Expansion Expansion Expansion! Tell us why you think the league should expand / not expand or include any ideas (in words) for team branding ideas you have or team locations. I have four teams (with logos) that I think would be great expansion teams for either the DSFL or the ISFL. Each team is based around a US National Park, and embodies characteristics from that region. The Kenai Fjords Gray Wolves hail from the rugged and picturesque Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. Named after the powerful gray wolves that roam the region’s iconic fjords, the team embodies resilience, strength, determination. With a home stadium in Anchorage, the Wolf Den is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, and the Gray Wolves are ready to make their mark that reflects the toughness of the Alaskan wilderness. The Yellowstone Wranglers bring the rugged spirit of the American West to the gridiron. Based in Jackson Hole, near the iconic Yellowstone National Park, the Wranglers embrace the wild energy of the region. With a team culture rooted in resilience, hard work, and a relentless pursuit of victory, the Wranglers aim to make their mark in the league from day one. Their home stadium, Geyser Field, offers fans breathtaking views of the natural surroundings, making every game day an unforgettable experience. The Crater Lake Bighorns hail from the rugged and majestic landscape of Oregon, drawing its identity from the iconic Crater Lake and the strength of the Bighorn sheep, known for their resilience and dominance in the wild. With a focus on building a competitive roster and fostering community pride, the Bighorns aim to become a formidable force in their league, blending tradition with a bold, new energy. Their arrival marks the dawn of an exciting era for football in the Pacific Northwest. The Bighorns home stadium is in Medford, Oregon and their stadium name is Ram Land. The Isle Royale Paladins are based out of the remote and rugged Isle Royale which is known for its wilderness and natural beauty. The team's name reflects their commitment to valor, discipline, and defense, much like the noble warriors they are named after. The Paladins call Grand Portage, Minnesota their home, and play at the Arena Royale Stadium. Isle Royale is poised to make a bold entrance into the league and create a legacy on the gridiron. 15. If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did. (Written or Graphic Task) OFFENSE – The theme of this offense is scheme versatility. With the roster below, you can run the air raid, option, west coast, power run, wildcat, or any other offense imaginable. QB: Lenard McRobinson – Honolulu The definition of a true dual-threat quarterback, McRobinson threw for 3,907 yards and 26 TDs against 11 INT, adding 616 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. I will gladly sacrifice passing efficiency for what he brings to the table with his rushing ability. RB1: Reginald Shrubbery - Baltimore Shrubbery would slot in as the primary running back on this roster, showcasing his versatility as a runner and receiver with 1,014 yards and 9 TDs on the ground and 75 receptions for 888 yards and 5 TDs. RB2: Anakin Skywalker - Baltimore Baltimore might be on to something with this running back tandem! Skywalker would be my swiss army knife player, being utilized as a slot receiver who also lines up in the backfield, takes jet sweeps, screens, etc. 996 yards and 7 TDs on the ground in addition to 757 and 9 through the air, Skywalker is the 3rd piece to this incredibly versatile offensive juggernaut. WR1: Keanu Calhoun - Cape Town Calhoun is a true alpha X wide receiver, as is evidenced by his 1,495 yards and 13 TDs this past season. With 93.4 yards per game, he would be the leader of any teams WR core. WR2: Chopper Donquixote - Orange County Chopper fits in as our Z widout, after showing out with his league leading 122 catches for (also league leading) 1,565 yards and 5 TD. Not nearly the red zone threat that Donquixote is, Chopper is an elite separator and understands defenses as well as anyone. TE1: Bob Kronkowski - Yellowknife Bob is the perfect blend of speed, power, and athleticism. 84 catches for 661/5 is no small feat for a tight end, but also excels in the run game, posting 49 pancake blocks with no sacks given up. LT: Swantavius Stack – Sarasota Stack is the no-brainer pick here. 16 games started, 115 pancake blocks, 0 sacks given up. This was the easiest decision of the entire roster. LG: Fin-Jeremy Har-Dur – Orange County A tackle by trade, I want another elite pass protector on my squad, so Har-Dur slots in at left guard here. 102 pancakes, 1 sack given up, and a very provocative name. C: Leonardo Da Pinchi – Honolulu Aside from having one of the best names on the roster, Da Pinchi is an absolute unit to have anchoring the interior offensive line. 101 pancakes and 0 sacks given up on the season gets it done. RG: Gusztáv Farkas – San Jose Farkas is an old school, hard-nosed, road grader lineman, as well as another top tier pass protector, as evidenced by his 106 pancakes and 0 sacks. RT: Klaus von Reinherz – Berlin Klaus is a mountain of a man and is the perfect right tackle for this team. 113 pancakes and 1 sack given up gives the offense a second elite bookend tackle. DEFENSE – Defense is where I get a little creative. My base defense is going to be a 4-2-5 nickel defense, with both edge rushers as linebackers for pass coverage versatility, and both lineman as defensive tackles to have a steady interior presence. ROLB: Allister Adebam – New Orleans Adebam is a freak edge rusher, tallying 100 tackles, 13 for loss, 4 FF, 1 FR, 18 sacks (!!!) 2 interceptions and 7 pass breakups on the season. Another no brainer for a guy that can play multiple positions on defense. DT: Doctor Who – New Orleans Who might just be the second coming of Aaron Donald. During his 2065 campaign, Who racked up 72 tackles, 13 for loss, and 15 sacks – which is almost unheard of from an interior defensive lineman. With Who being on the field, you know that you can line up in any defense and still generate pressure up the middle. DT: Draven Chaos – New York With our first representative from the Silverbacks, Draven Chaos is another highly active defensive tackle that I could not leave out of this lineup. 52 tackles, 7 for loss, 2 FF, 1 FR, and 11 sacks shows that any offense is going to have a tough task ahead of them when facing this unit. LOLB: Crasher Wake – Austin Wake will line up as the strong side rusher for my defense. While not as prolific of a sack artist as Adebam, Wake is a turnover machine at linebacker. 127 tackles, 9 for loss, 5 FF, 2 FR, 12 sacks, and 3 pass breakups exhibit his tenacity to get the ball back to the offense. ILB1: Crazy Tomato – New York Another Silverback stalwart to lead this defensive unit, Tomato led the league in tackles with 143. Tomato exhibited his playmaking ability by racking up 14 TFLs, 3 FF, 12 sacks, 1 interception, and 7 pass breakups as well. ILB2: Joey Battle – Osaka We have a Kaiju on the team! This last linebacker spot was a real tough decision, with so many playmakers left on the board. What separated Joey from the rest was his ability to not only rush the passer, but also to create turnovers, as evidenced by his 12 sacks and 5 forced fumbles. He also accounted for 11 TFLs, 1 FR, and 6 pass breakups this season. CB1: Roquefort Cotswold – Honolulu Roque is our shutdown corner who will shadow the opposing teams #1 receiver all game long. Roque amassed 93 tackles, 7 interceptions, 42 pass breakups, and scored twice on defense this year. Welcome to Roquefort Island. CB2: Devin Jones – Berlin Jones is a tackling machine at cornerback, posting 97 tackles this year and 105 the year prior. H forced 4 fumbles, recovered 1, picked off 2 passes, scored twice on defense and led the league with 52 passes defended. Good luck throwing on this team. CB3: Luigi Numberone – Cape Town Luigi was probably the easiest player to put on this roster once I decided to run the 4-2-5 scheme. He is a ballhawk at corner who excels in pass coverage and run support. Last season, Luigi accounted for 87 tackles, 5 FF, 2 FR, 4 interceptions, 32 passes defensed, and a defensive touchdown. Yes, you read that right, Luigi was responsible for 9 turnovers in 16 games. This is my Honey Badger and I want him involved as much as possible on defense. SS: Chappy McChapperson – Baltimore Chappy traditionally plays free safety, but for this defense I want to see him lined up at strong safety to get in the box a little more often. Chappy is an enforcer, having forced 5 fumbles this season, recovering 4 to boot. He also accounted for 68 tackles, 1 sack, 2 interceptions, 23 pass breakups, and a defensive touchdown. FS: Rico Savage – Osaka Savage is exactly that, a SAVAGE. He is the quintessential deep field safety, roaming around and making plays on the ball. This season, Savage led all free safeties in tackles with 83, and pass breakups with 28. He also compiled 2 sacks, 3 interceptions and 1 defensive score for good measure. SPECIAL TEAMS: K: Ray Baker – Honolulu Baker is as consistent as it gets in the ISFL. If there is an opportunity to score points, Ray will make it happen. 37 FG made, 90.2% FG pct, with a long of 64 yards, we add another weapon to this team. P: Wynn Jenkins – Arizona Not that this team would ever need to punt, but we bring on Wynn Jenkins to flip the field whenever we need it. Jenkins averaged 51.2 yards per punt, downing 30 of 58 inside the 20, with a long of 74. KR/PR: Keanu Calhoun – Cape Town This was a toss up between Calhoun and Triceracop (Osaka), but Calhoun was already on the roster so that’s one less seat on the team flight. Calhoun averaged 29.9 yards per kick return and 9.2 yards per punt return, both of which were in the top 6 for each. Triceracop was the only other player to achieve that feat this season. RE: (S51) Offseason Task - Wiggli - 10-21-2024 Quote:13. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better? The Baltimore Hawks won it all this year. In the offseason looking at the team I noticed they really had it all, but that the window was closing, and one lynchpin in particular could cause them to fall short. Aging quarterback Wolfie McDummy Jr. was starting to lose his shine, and there might be the possibility to upgrade at the position and help ensure they make it to the promised land. But Baltimore stayed pat. And they executed on a game plan with a more limited role for their aging passer, putting even more emphasis on their two headed ground attack. Shrubbery and Skywalker really delivered. Both finished in the top 10 for rushing yards this season, and by keeping their partner resh they both averaged an impressive 5 yards per carry. That sort of volume and efficiency allowed McDummy to fulfill more of a game manager role and he was up to the task. Their defense demands attention as well, holding opponents to 20.1 points per game best in the league this season. They did it again with a great degree of balance. A great degree of balance across the different levels of the defense with great years put together by captain Carter Goad in the trenches, killer B’s Bazooka and Beanman in the linebacker corps and a top notch secondary featuring Dino Nuggets, Chappy McChaperson, and the up and coming Lawrence Crawford. You could describe it as a fairy tale ending. But it is also a good example of a team having a plan and executing on it. I think there is reason to believe this might have been the teams last, best chance to finish on top, but doesn’t that make it all the sweeter when a team is able to gather its rosebuds while it still may. And also it gives me an opportunity to apologize for my earlier hot take, McDummy was good enough to get the job done and I think it is a fitting conclusion to a great career. The Season 50 Ultimus and Ultimini have officially come to an end. Congratulations to the the Bondi Beach Buccaneers and Baltimore Hawks for each winning their respective championships. How did each of the finalists in either the Ultimus or Ultimini arrive at the playoffs? Were there any teams that surprised or disappointed during the playoffs? Did the outcome of either championship game surprise you at all? I already covered some of this in my Portland Pythons season wrap-up, however I thought it would be fun to do this off-season task but also go back and focus a bit more on Bondi Beach and the build up to the DSFL Season 50 Ultimini. Both of the divisions in the DSFL during Season 50 saw a bit of a split early on, which made for a rather limited playoff race down the stretch. Portland finished 10-4 in the RATS division, same as the division winning Grey Ducks who won the tie-breaker over Portland based on 2 regular-season wins over the Pythons. Bondi Beach Bucs would finish 8-6, still 2 games ahead of 3rd place and 3 games behind the Dallas Birddogs who finished 11-3 and were the Tijuana division favorites headed into the playoffs. Both the Bondi Beach Buccaneers and the Portland Pythons would head into their conference title games on the road and heavily favored to lose. Dallas finished 11-3 as the top team in the entire DSFL, and they split the regular season series with Bondi Beach one game a piece. Dallas did get the better of Bondi Beach in Week 14, which sealed the best record for Dallas and cemented them as the DSFL title favorites. Bondi Beach would win in Dallas, 16-14, in an absolute dog fight of a game. Kicker Jack Wolf would open the game with 3 field goals and a 9-0 lead for Bondi Beach all the way into the 3rd quarter where it remained 9-0. Dallas would battle back with a FordF150 goal line touchdown in the late 3rd quarter to make it 9-7 BB and close the lead to 2. Bondi would answer with a 61 yard touchdown pass to Rocket Toss to take the 16-7 lead. Dallas would score late to close the gap yet fell short to the underdog Bucs who'd clinch their Ultimini spot in a narrow 2 point victory. Jack Wolf would be player of the game going 3/3 on long field goals in a defensive struggle. The NFC title game would also prove to be an exciting one, as Minnesota jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Cyrus MacDougall, Rookie QB for the Grey Ducks, found Rookie receiver Matt Turk for a 22-yard score. Portland would end up tying it in the second quarter off a 70-yard touchdown bullet off the arm of Rockmann to Larton Hilnka. Portland would add a Shiyun Lin rushing touchdown at the end of the half to go up 14-7 headed into halftime. Minnesota would open the 3rd quarter with a field goal to make the score 14-10 Portland advantage. Portland would answer with a field goal of their own to set the score at 17-10. Federico Cinco would bust loose for Minnesota to knot the game at 17-17 off an 11 yard scamper in the early 4th quarter. With 1:29 remaining in the game, Pasta Rockmann would connect with John Myers on another deep 45 yard touchdown pass to set Portland ahead 24-17. The Pythons would add another TD late on a Wilder rushing touchdown to seal the game 31-17. Portland would clinch the victory and a spot in the Season 50 DSFL Ultimini to defend their championship against the Bondi Beach Bucs. At this point, I think it's safe to say that both teams were sort of surprised to have made it this far. I know Portland had won it last season, however, Minnesota beat the snot out of them twice in the regular season so it didn't seem like a sure thing they'd get through that NFC title game. Bondi Beach was also a pretty significant underdog to Dallas in the TFC title game, so at this point I was pretty much feeling like whoever was the underdog in the Ultimini would perhaps have an edge? It just seems like both Portland and Bondi Beach are such underdog-spoiler types, so naturally when Portland had 2 pretty strong wins over BBB in the regular season I knew we (Portland) was going to be in trouble. I am already at 600 some words so at this point let me just quote my article for this blurb about the Ultimini final game between Bondi Beach & Portland: Quote:The Season 50 Ultimini would open in spectacular fashion and world class pageantry. The dots were absolutely beautiful on this night under the stars and in front of a standing room only crowd. The game would start off slow with both teams feeling each other out early. Bondi Beach would score 2 field goals in the first quarter to take an early 6-0 lead off the leg of Jack Wolf. Portland would break through early in the 2nd quarter when Pasta Rockmann connected with Scott Wickerd on another long 58 yard touchdown. Portland would get the extra point and take the lead, 7-6. Bondi Beach would answer with a vengeance, with Slick Jr scoring on a 2 yard touchdown pass from Confurius DeThwilson to go up 13-7. Bondi Beach would follow that up with another big score, this time a passing touch down to Golden Ericksen for 4 yards and the 20-7 lead. Rockmann and the Pythons would try to assemble another late game come back, connecting with Larton Hilnka for an 8 yard touchdown pass to make it 20-14 late in the 3rd quarter. DeThwilson's arm and the Bucs defense combined would simply prove to be too much for Portland to handle on this day. Bondi Beach would shutout Portland in the final frame while DeThwilson would connect with Travis Novak on an 11 yard touchdown with 6 minutes to go that would ultimately seal the fate of Portland. The final score would run 27-14 and the Bondi Beach Buccaneers would be your DSFL Season 50 Ultimini Champions! It was a great game and a well fought win by the BB Bucs. Congratulations again to the Bondi Beach GMs and team on their win. It's too bad we fell just short but I was shocked to win it last season as a rookie and I hope the rookies on the BBB side enjoy that same rush. Great season everyone, looking forward to S51!
