RE: (S40) PT #2 - Play of the Week - Cincyfan96 - 02-27-2023

I had a blast watching the competition between Berlin and Chicago...until it was less fun of course for us Berlin players. I thought that I might have the play that mattered most when I brought in a key go-ahead touchdown midway through the second quarter paired with our kicked Known Acquaintance absolutely kicking butt (pun intended) both with nailing field goals and by pinning Chicago deep a few different times. But the play that ended up turning the tides came in the 4th quarter after Berlin had again taken a lead. Chicago had the ball down 2 points on their own side of the field on 3rd and 14. Berlin fans were excited, Chicago fans were nervous, but St. Christmas nailed a 29 yard completion to offensive captain Sharpei Jr. on a blown coverage by veteran safety Sideline-Touchdown. This was the play that put all the pressure on Berlin and eventually led to the win for the Butchers. Can't say it was my favorite play, but it was the biggest one in either game featuring the Fire Salamanders.

Quote:Written option: We’ve had a crazy week of games! And because of this, we’ve had some crazy plays or sequence of plays. For this PT, describe your favorite play(s) of the season so far. What about it made it your favorite? Shoot, what’s your least favorite play(s)? Describe literally anything about it (even in a POV sense)!

As the MLB, Tank is considered a leader on defense. He's not the best player on the field, or even the best linebacker thanks to the beast that is Spicy Ron. But traditionally he would be the one responsible for the play calls. So you can imagine how much a busted coverage burns him up. Even more so when he is the one who busted the coverage. Tank often drops back deep to provide over the top help to the corners. This past week I watched as he sucked up on a play action and the ball is dropped off perfectly to a slot receiver running a seam. Goes for a TD. Man those are the absolute worst plays to watch.

On the flip side, the best plays are the deep sacks. I saw a corner coming on a cat, just demolished the QB. Beautiful, even when its just some 2D dots doing it.

Not quite with the prompt, but its will always be my answer for favorite play. All through the DSFL, Tank never had an INT. He gets called up to the ISFL, and his very first INT is a pick 6! Then, he turns around and his second INT is ALSO a pick 6. Of course, it hasn't happened since. But it was pretty cool when it did.

Nine minutes into the game with the ball on their own 42 yard line St. Christmas dropped back to pass on first and ten. After going through their first several reads and finding no openings they could fit it in St. Christmas settled on a checkdown to their third down back with the aim to just make a second and short to live another down. Before the ball could get there though star safety Cross-Eriksen closed the gap, picked the ball off, and stayed on her feet to make a run for the end zone. Befitting her slender frame she slipped through the grasp of the target of the pass and made her way to the line of scrimmage. Just like a running back she found a hint of daylight and burst through an opening made by the defensive line to get a path to the end zone. It took her just a stiff arm to St. Christmas to clear the last of her obstacles as she sprinted the rest of the way into the end zone for her first touchdown of the season and the fifth of her ISFL career.

For entirely selfish reasons, the interception that Theo Lariat caught in the third quarter of the Week 4 game of Honolulu against the San Jose Sabercats. Farrell and the Sabercats offense were just 8 yards away from the goal line, first and goal, - things were looking grim for the Hahalua defense.

Farrell opted for Penne as the receiver for a passing play, and Lariat was in the right place at the right time to pick off the pass on the three yard line. The interception no doubt prevented the touchdown and revitalized the team's morale. Those super clutch goal line plays are some of the most exciting moments in the game. Preventing scoring on that play was one of many instrumental plays that allowed Honolulu to get the win in week 4, but the play would have been worthy of the highlight reel even if the final result didn't fall in favor of the team I play for.

Only six plays later, after another change of possession, fellow HON cornerback Luigi Lanikai repeated the performance with his own interception deep in Honolulu territory. Good stuff.

There comes a time when you gotta' dig deep and give your team a lift in confidence. Your team is down 20-0 by the first quarter of the first game of the season, but we're in the middle of a 70 yard drive down to the 6 yard line. You gather with the rest of your teammates for the huddle. The QB looks right at you and calls the play to sweep right. You look around at everyone and say "this is the start of the comeback, boys, give 'em hell!"

As soon as you see the snap, time seems to slow down. You take the handoff and dig your cleats into the soft turf. The O-line performs their task flawlessly, parting the linemen like the sea. It's only 6 yards to the end zone, but it seems like a lifetime. When you break the plane of the goal line, the crowd rises to their feet, sensing the turn around is all but inevitable. It may not have been the game winning touch down, but the play laid the foundation to a 24-20 comeback win.

With less than 6 minutes to go, the Sabercats found themselves trailing the Silverbacks by 3 in a game they struggled to keep up with. They had managed to claw back a touchdown on the previous drive, but now the 'rillas were prepping to come in and slow the game down to preserve the victory. However, the Sabercats had other plans. After a touchback, Savage took a shot to Hollywood that was broken up by Buster. Then the absolute animal that is Mike Scott demolished Savage for an 11 yard sack after he tried to extend the play. And then, with the full power of the green and gold flowing through him, Russet Buster tracked the eyes of Malcolm Savage, flipped his hips, and snatched the ball from McHollywood! The cats turned the short field into a touchdown to take the lead and came away with a sweet dub over a conference rival!

MIN Minnesota Greyducks vs POR Portland Pythons

After a back and forth game the, the Pythons score a late 3rd Quarter go-ahead Touchdown, followed by a Field Goal to put them up 31-27 over the Greyducks.  Both offenses stall in the 4th Quarter as the Pythons look to hold onto a tight 4 point lead.  The Greyducks get the ball back with 1:57 on the clock at their own 16 yards line, and are looking to compose a 2 minute comeback drive.  Painted Penguin is making quick work of the Portland defense completing successive 30 and 16 yard passes to Wideouts Honey Badger and Artemis Entreri respectively.  Minnesota has driven the ball 64 yards to the Portland 28 yard line with 0:59 still remaining on the clock.  Penguin drops back for another pass, but from his blind side comes Portland's Lavondrius Dingle on a Cornerback blitz. SACKED! An 11 yard loss! With no timeouts remaining, the Greyduck offense goes into full panic mode quickly lining up to spike the ball and stop the clock.  Now facing a 4th and 21 after the sack, Penguin makes one last heave into the endzone, but the ball doesn't find purchase.  Portland kneels the clock out, and emerges victorious after the clutch sack of rookie Lavondrius Dingle.
