Oh, what a great idea!

Imagine the DSFL Ultimini being played in the moon!

The Bondi Beach Buccaneers facing the Minnesota Grey Ducks. The Grey Ducks would be the favorites of course, because they sweeped us and are too OP this year… But, I could totally see those gravy ducks getting tackled in low gravity by me and Moon, feathers everywhere, Dem Ducks trying to catch up and us getting interception after interception by Taonga Kofi and David Dem Cheeks Corrigan.

Oh, what a wonderful sight. Then our offense, led by Confurius throwing touchdown after touchdown to Novak, and Arroz, and Rocket Toss. Then Sevrin Quinn juking people left and right, in low gravity slow-mo for the final touchdowns… Oh what a sight it would be. Of course we would blow them ducks out, and the Hollywood ending would be awesome.

This is all totally believable, IF, and I mean IF, the refs were aliens. Because the dot refs on Draft Day sim engine are clearly corrupt and bought by the Minnesota Ducklings. Clearly.

In football, you often hear of two teams “battling in the trenches”. So with Carter Goad lining up in the trenches as a defensive lineman, it’s only fair to consider somewhere that actual battles have taken place. So for this exercise, we are going to consider a football game, or battle if you will, taking place in a forest.

In history, fighting in a forest changes tactics and strategies significantly and allows for ambushes and surprises. In the football “battle” things would change drastically too. On offense, teams could use the trees as extra offensive linemen and protect their quarterback more effectively with less players. However, passing the ball may prove to be significantly more difficult as teams would need to navigate the trees. Of course on the flip side, you could disguise formations and hide players to have some killer misdirection and trick plays.

On defense, you would be at a disadvantage. As you wouldn’t be able to see the whole play and you would need to communicate verbally with you teammates effectively to overcome sight issues. Though you might be able to disguise some interesting blitzes too!

I'm going to go with a VR situation, straight out of Ready Player One. As as initiative to eliminate concussions, the players now suit up in full mo-cap gear and a VR helmet, and play the game on an omni-directional treadmill. Their avatars are then projected onto a field with their teammates and opponents. Upon collision, the avatar of the player on screen suffers a bone crunching visual trip to the turf, while the actual athlete safely jogs by his lonesome in an undisclosed location. This initiative will be put in place in the year 2037 after 80% of the league players vote to strike if the ISFL doesn't do something to address its out of control concussion problem. (fourth wall break here, the ISFL really is a nice alternative to the real thing as you never have to worry about your player's bodies falling apart - except for regression of course.)

Throughout the history of American football and into the history of simulated American football, there has always been a push to extend the sport to a year round phenomenon with the introduction of a spring league.

While the USFL, XFL, WFL, AAF, USFL and XFL the second time, and many other leagues have failed and folded, this has never stopped new leagues and investors from trying to break into this space, each time bringing new tweaks and changes to market a new USP.

Now in the year whatever year this is now, a group of mega investors from the Walmart-Ford-Heinz-Amazon-Gerber mega trillionaire family are excited to bring the newest and most exciting and definitely sustainable past one, maybe two seasons league for spingtime American football, the ISFLoI, a.k.a. the International Simulation Football League on Ice (name pending litigation for copyright infringement).

This league features all of the skill, strategy, and explosiveness of gridiron football with all of the best parts of both ice hockey and figure skating by putting the sport onto a 100 yard long rink of ice.

Translating his skills in balance, grace, and body control onto the ice as a key ambassador and two league player, I.Q. Bowman has been a star in early exhibition showcases of the ISFLoI. Though he isn't sure he plans for a long career with the ISFLoI, Bowman has said that his time training and playing on ice has been a great way to train his ability to read the offense, anticipate plays, and work on his change of direction and explosiveness and believes this could be a great alternative or supplemental developmental league to funnel into the ISFL alongside the usual DSFL route.

The Osaka Kaiju are built to literally play anywhere, whether that be on a desert volcano island or deep undersea in the ruins of R'lyeh. Kaiju are highly adaptable monsters and can adjust to any on field situation. As a matter of fact, many times during the game the field changes due to the destructive nature of Kaiju. Gigantic Kaiju will leave wakes of destruction in their paths and that is no different when on the gridiron. It has actually become common operating procedure for the Osaka "Reconstruction Team" to have to go out during TV time outs and half time to repair the field so that the game can continue to be played. It is often to the dismay of the home team when the Osaka Kaiju have to travel because their fields and staff are not as equipped to deal with the destructive power of the Kaiju. For this, we believe that every game should be played in Osaka where the Kaiju can be properly contained. (167)

In recent history, the Colorado Yeti have not been very successful playing football on grass or turf in a normal football stadium. However, if the game was instead played in the middle of a frozen tundra, I believe there is no one that could possibly compete with them. Starting with the most obvious point, the Yeti is quite literally a snow monster that terrorizes anyone else that dares to enter its domain. Secondly, the team is used to playing home games in Colorado, where temperatures can get very cold and conditions may get icy. Most ISFL teams play in naturally warm climates and would have a hard time adjusting to this drastic change in climate. Last but not least, since the games would be played on a frozen sheet of ice, agility would likely be the most important attribute. Positions like offensive line and defensive line would be effectively useless as they wouldn't be able to stay on their feet to do anything. The strongest part of the Yeti team is in the secondary, where they have lots of young, agile players that could still move (somewhat) swiftly on an ice patch.
