RE: (S26) Ultimus Week - platanocat - 01-09-2021

Option #2

I love my draft class. S25 was a larger (but not the largest, I know) reddit draft class with a whopping 141 players. Three seasons later, our retention is still pretty high. According to the TPE tracker, there are still 86 players from our class. I’d like to use my Ultimus Week point task to give shout outs to a few of my friends and appreciate some of the accomplishments they’ve obtained.

@GlimsTC was one of the first people I met when we were both DSFL prospects. As a fellow offensive lineman, we became friends hoping to take the pancake world by storm. If anyone has ever interacted with him, they would know immediately that Glims is one of the nicest people in the league. It was only fitting that he quickly rose through the ranks of Kansas City and was the first of us to become a GM. Although he’s since stepped down, Glims has certainly left a lasting impression on his team’s legacy.

@r0tzbua is a cool dude. He makes video games, has traveled the world, and is now the shiny new GM of Dallas. I hate Dallas still as team, but I love Rotz. If you haven’t had the experience, sit down and just let him tell you stories about his adventures. You won’t be disappointed. Also, if you’ve ever wanted to be absolutely jealous of someone’s culinary skills, ask him what he made for dinner.

On the topic of dinner, I think many of us are also jealous of the master pizza chef @katarn22. Infamously known as the quiet counter, Katarn has made quite the reputation for himself amongst the league by being another one of the nicest people around. Literally. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Katarn insult someone. I did see him say fuck once. That’s the only dirt I have on him. Anyways, he also is known for reliably simming a bajillion times. I don’t know how he’s going to set lines now with the new sim, but I’m sure he’ll find a way. As one of London’s most respected alumni, I believe he was slated to GM that team from early on.

Slated. Slate… @slate! Lovingly known as The Stone, London is overjoyed to have Slate defect to London to be a GM. Kansas City is a cool team, but we love him and you can’t have him back. Anyone who has talked to Slate knows that he’s smart af. If you ever needed help with strategies or player builds, Slate was the guy to see. I am positive that whatever secrets the new sim holds, Slate is going to be one of the first people to know.

How can anyone talk about S25 without bringing up the irl best buddies @"Punter715" and @"ShnarlyDude". Their bromance runs so deep that now anonymous strangers all over the world now know of it through the magic of dot football. Being so close, it’s not a shocker that they share similar goals and became coGMs of the same team. I am so excited to see where they can take Philly. If only I could see what it’s like in their war room during draft season…

Okay @Crunk. I GUESS I can say some nice things about you. No Crunk was one of my London teammates and helped us reach the DSFL finals. ULTIMINI CHAMPIONS YO! It’s no shocker that you were plucked and made GM of AZ. What a hell of a way to break into the ISFL right? Z-Whiz needs all the help he can get.

Oh @zaynzk. Where do you go. How do you find a way to skirt the rules of twitter so much yet still manage to find success. It seems like only yesterday that we were rivals shit talking about Dallas and London. Now we’re teammates on NYS! You made my list here by mere minutes. Hearing that you’re now the CoGM of the gorilla gang is so exciting! I can’t wait to beg you for the team twitter permissions…

I can’t talk about New York Silverbacks without talking about @Bwestfield though. I first met Westy on twitter, strangely awed by his hamburger duck pfp. Who thinks of that? Who picks a hamburger duck as their player? Westy does. I was overjoyed to connect with him after coming to NYS and seeing that he was GM. Not sure what the future holds for you buddy, but I feel like you’ll continue to be an integral part of this league.

Alright @Swanty. Now it’s your turn to shine. Not only was Swanty one hell of a teammate on London, he was one of the first of us to make it to the top: HO. If you ever needed some hands to grease to help get preferential treatment in the sims, Swanty was the guy to go to.  Not really. But I do ask him for an HO job like once a week. Will Swanty soon take over as the commissioner of the DSFL? I sure as hell hope so.

I haven’t had the opportunity to become that close to @Jimi64 or @GuitarMaster116, but that doesn’t make me any less happy for them. They made to GM and HO respectively and are sure representing S25 well. The more bodies we have in charge, the more weight we can swing around. S25 takeover is all going to plan, and these two and definitely doing their part. Way to go homies!

RE: (S26) Ultimus Week - Birdman - 01-09-2021

16) Not only has the New Orleans Second Line made it to the playoffs, but we have also made it to the Ultimus! To pump the team up, LeBong Simwell is taking over the AUX cord and putting on some fire beats to get the gang riled up for the big match. LeBong has an eclectic taste in music and his pump-up playlist will reflect that. Here is what is on the playlist:

All of the Lights – Kanye West: This song is electric and a great song. It has a nice drum beat to get the blood flowing, lyrics that match what we are in for in the Ultimus: the lights on the big stage. It’s an upbeat song that is going to be played first.

The Show Goes On – Lupe Fiasco: Similar in style to All of the Lights, this song is a somewhat laid-back pump-up song that is very melodic. It is important not to get too hyped too early and burn out before the big game. This song will continue after All of the Lights to get the group going but not too hyped too soon.

God’s Gonna Cut You Down – Johnny Cash: This is going to be the song that is played right before the team comes out. It is a powerful, emotional song that despite not being fast paced or energetic, really gets you fired up for a violent sport.

17) This year’s Ultimus half time show is going to be unique. The typical concert style half time show is out the window because they are always super lame and uninteresting. The music is never very good and it looks weird to have like 50 people grooving to the songs in the well lit stadium, it is just awful and we are not going that route this year. This year will have various athletic contests to keep the crowd and viewers at home entertained while the Ultimus players take a breather. It will be a modern day Roman coliseum, but sadly the fights will not be going to the death. We will have bouts with medieval weaponry and armor, some jousting with horses meeting at the fifty yard line, and a battle royale style capture the flag game to get the crowd fired up at the end. The capture the flag game will include each team wearing boxing gloves and if you can punch the opposing team in the face while they are on your side of the field they have to go to “jail” as per typical capture the flag. The organizers this year hope that the combat style sports at half time will keep the crowd engaged instead of having soft musical performers bore everyone.

18) I’m also in the SHL. One of the things that is a huge improvement over the ISFL is the banking system. The bank being coded into the site is a huge quality of life improvement because it is easy to see the transactions under your account and whether you are still waiting for a payout. It also makes it very easy to purchase weekly training and seasonal coaching and see the immediate impact to your bank account. The other thing that is an improvement over the ISFL is the index (even though it still isn’t very good in the SHL, it is still being improved). It is very easy to search for your players stats and advanced stats in the index, which can’t really be said in the ISFL. I also like the league because I am a hockey fan and it is really fun to develop your player and see your stats improve. There is just something fun about being a forward and have to fight your way from the third line to the first line. It’s different than football where positions are so varied and different, but I love both sports so I do like being more of a specialist in the ISFL.

22) LeBong Simwell has been hired by Aurora Cannabis to become the official spokesperson for their premium branded cannabis. Despite being a Canadian company, there is a huge following of Canadians that love New Orleans and LeBong specifically. Obviously his name has become a bit of a meme among Aurora’s core demographic, so it was a perfect opportunity for the company to get LeBong in some commercials talking about how Aurora is personally his favorite. Going to the Ultimus is a huge boon for LeBong personally and he is fully taking advantage of that to cash in on that sweet endorsement money. Most of the commercials are simply LeBong taking rips out of his signature 6 foot purple bong, looking at the camera in a haze, and trying to mumble something about Aurora. The commercials are pretty low quality, but for some reason that has made them go viral. LeBong is excited for the debut of a huge Aurora ad that will air during the Ultimus. In that commercial, LeBong is seen in a purple super man costume flying through the sky with a tail of smoke coming out of him. He turns to the camera, winks, and says “nothing gets you higher – Aurora.”

RE: (S26) Ultimus Week - Modern_Duke - 01-09-2021

Tier 1 - 6) Write 800 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you.

Something that always interests me is awards, and since I'm not on awards committee this season I felt free to give my thoughts on who should win each award for the ISFL:

Kicker of the Year - Jacob Small - Key Stat: 36/36 FG
A perfect season from Small, with zero missed extra points or field goals. New York's David Smalls also had a perfect field goal season, but made fewer and also missed three extra points.

Punter of the Year - Alex D - Key Stat: 23 Punts Inside 20
This is a close one. Alex D didn't lead in any category, but I think has the best all-around case, finishing fourth in yards per punt and second in punts downed inside the twenty.

Returner of the Year - Eddie Jeeta - Key Stat: 30.2 KR Average
Jeeta finished second in both kick return average and punt return average, and also contributed a kick return touchdown. San Jose's Rickie Vaughne had two kick return touchdowns, but was lacking in average.

Safety of the Year - Tyrone Biggums - Key Stat: 5 Interceptions
A crowded race for this one. Two other safeties also finished with 5 interceptions, and several safeties finished with more sacks. However, Biggums also had impressive tackle numbers to go along with a defensive touchdown.

Cornerback of the Year - David Rector - Key Stat: 7 Interceptions
Rector is getting into his last seasons, but is performing better than ever. The leader in interceptions, passes defended, and defensive touchdowns makes this an easy choice.

Linebacker of the Year - Griffin Porter - Key Stat: 12 Sacks
League leader in sacks, with 3 interceptions and over 100 tackles thrown in for good measure. Melvin Murder-Moose had a nice season as well, but didn't outperform Porter anywhere.

Defensive Tackle of the Year - Daymond Brooks - Key Stat: 11 Sacks
Leader among defensive tackles in sacks, and added a handful of TFLs as well.

Defensive End of the Year - Asher Montain - Key Stat: 11 Sacks
Only player with double digit sacks and tackles for loss. Etrigan T. Slayer had an impressive 21 TFLs but was lacking in sacks.

Offensive Lineman of the Year - Bruce Buckley - Key Stat: 0 Sacks Allowed
Buckley was only fourth in pancakes with 87, but had the most among players who did not allow a sack.

Tight End of the Year - Heath Evans - Key Stat: 1002 Yards
Evans was the only tight end with over 1000 yards receiving and also had 6 touchdowns. Tree Gelbman makes an interesting case with 52 pancakes to go along with 6 touchdowns to match Evans.

Wide Receiver of the Year - Michael Witheblock - Key Stat: 1622 Yards
Even with a huge number of receivers eclipsing 1000 yards this season, Witheblock stood out as the yardage leader, and finished second in yards per reception to go along with a solid 9 touchdowns.

Running Back of the Year - Marcella Toriki - Key Stat: 19 Touchdowns
Other running backs had more yards or were more efficient, but 19 rushing touchdowns has not been eclipsed since Season 10, and no one has even broken 15 touchdowns since at least Season 15.

Quarterback of the Year - Jay Cue - Key Stat: 34 Touchdowns
In possibly his last season behind center, Cue lead the league in completion percentage, passing touchdowns, and passer rating.

Offensive Breakout Player of the Year - Taro Raimon - Key Stat: 11 Touchdowns
Raimon had an improvement of over 1000 yards in his second season. After compiling only 308 yards and 0 touchdowns, Raimon picked up 1354 yards and 11 touchdowns in S26 as one of the leagues top receivers.

Defensive Breakout Player of the Year - Lawrence Bass - Key Stat: 21 PD
Bass position switched from defensive end to linebacker, but he also evolved into a star. With 11 sacks and 21 PD, his numbers are up there to at least receive a linebacker of the year nomination.

Offensive Rookie of the Year - Mattathias Caliban - Key Stat: 89.7 QB Rating
This award looked like it was Mike Boss Jr.'s to lose. But Caliban ended the season fourth in the league in passer rating and second in completion percentage.

Defensive Rookie of the Year - Etrigan T. Slayer - Key Stat: 21 TFL
Slayer should be a candidate for defensive end of the year as well. His 21 tackles for loss are a rookie record.

Offensive Performance of the Year - Jay Cue Week 8 - Key Stat: 5 Touchdowns
The only 5 touchdown game of the season. Cue had a 137.5 QB rating in the game.

Defensive Performance of the Year - David Rector Week 1 - Key Stat: 7 PD
Rector had 2 interceptions to go along with an astonishing 7 pass defenses.

Offensive Player of the Year - Joseph Petrongolo - Key Stat: 1937 Yards from Scrimmage
Petrongolo was a true dual threat, with over 1000 yards rushing and over 800 yards receiving, and 18 total touchdowns.

Defensive Player of the Year - David Rector - Key Stat: 7 Interceptions
As mentioned above, league leader in some big categories, and no one else stood out as far ahead of their positional peers.

Most Valuable Player - Colby Jack - Key Stat: 96.3 QB Rating
MVP is really the only award in which I consider team success, which is how Jack finishes ahead of Cue here. One of the most efficient quarterbacks playing for the league's top regular season team is a textbook MVP case.

RE: (S26) Ultimus Week - Jo3fish5 - 01-09-2021

2. I'm just gonna start this task out right here with my hot take, season 23 was the best class in recent ISFL history. I know anyone not from season 23 will dispute this, but they're just biased. Season 23 is undebatably the best class currently playing in the league.

First off, I'll point out that S25 is a very good draft class as well. Already they hold so many positions of power, including ISFL and DSFL GMs like katarn22, slate, ShnarlyDude, Punter715, and more, and also members of HO or HO interns, GuitarMaster11 (and probably more than him but idk). r0tzbua is a streamer already too. But if you just set that aside, their players just haven't had enough time in the league to really start to reach their peaks and compete with the big boys in the ISFL, so the ISFL class of s23 is better, and here's why:

The class of season 23 had an amazing retention rate. We weren't the biggest class, at only 78 people in our DSFL draft, but we stuck around. The NSFL draft ended up having 93 people thanks to some late joiners who created before the trade deadline and were claimed on waivers by various DSFL teams. At one point people were saying our class had a 75% retention rate, which was absolutely unheard of in classes beforehand. This maaaayyyy be a little exaggerated, but it's still much higher than any other class, and I don't hear anyone saying that about the more recent classes.

I know you still might not be convinced of the clear superiority of my epic poggers class, so here's a list of all the top position players in the class of '23 compared to the class of '25, because S25 is the only class I feel even comes close to S23.

Quarterback:
Jackie Daytona, S25 (User mooty99) Current TPE: 577 ISFL S26 Stats: Not Available
Ok, I guess season 25 has a better quarterback class, but that's only because season 23 doesn't actually have a quarterback. To be fair though, mooty is a pretty cool guy. I've played werewolf with him and he's better than me, if only because he's more experienced.

Running Back:
Jameson Vermillion, S25 (User VainKnight) Current TPE: 598 ISFL S26 Stats: 588 Rush Yards, 6 Rush Touchdowns
Joseph Petrongolo, S23 (User Jo3fish5) Current TPE: 846 ISFL S26 Stats: 1053 Rush Yards, 8 Rush Touchdowns
Some people might call me biased when I say I'm the better running back, but honestly to me the numbers speak for themselves. My player has about 250 TPE more than Vermillion, more touchdowns, and almost twice the rush yards. VainKnight is a great user, I'll give him credit, and has a great future for his player in Yellowknife or wherever he may go, but he just isn't quite there yet.

Wide Receiver:
Killian Chambers, S25 (User charlit) Current TPE: 578 ISFL S26 Stats: 1020 Receiving Yards, 8 Receiving Touchdowns
Kai Sakura, S23 (User DarknessRising) Current TPE: 962 ISFL S26 Stats: 1283 Receiving Yards, 10 Receiving Touchdowns
This is a closer line than the other positions, at least in terms of stats, but the TPE difference is huge. Kai Sakura has the better of Killian Chambers by nearly 400 TPE. Killian Chambers came close in stats, but this is still a clear win for season 23. Both users are greta members of the league who I see everywhere, and I consider myself friendly with.

Tight End:
Dave Batista, S25 (User Frick_Nasty) Current TPE: 604 ISFL S26 Stats: 816 Receiving Yards, 5 Receiving Touchdowns
Rigby Raccoon, S25 (User dieselj123) Current TPE: 438 ISFL S26 Stats: 438 Receiving Yards, 2 Receiving Touchdowns
Ok, so season 25 gets a win here. Frick is an awesome user and earner and his player had a great season. I remember back when diesel was new in the league, he was such a bright young star. He's since faded away and given his class it's second loss in this comparison.

Offensive Line:
Adam Mellott, S25 (User GuitarMaster116) Current TPE: 588 ISFL S26 Stats: 72 Pancakes, 4 Sacks Allowed
Greedy Sly, S23 (User Sylphreni) Current TPE: 941 ISFL S26 Stats: 68 Pancakes, 2 Sacks Allowed
This is definitely the closest battle stats-wise between the two seasons for the position. Makes sense, I guess, because pancakes are a random stat that doesn't even show up in the sim. But still, I have to give this one to the first overall pick in both the DSFL and the ISFL, Greedy Sly. He might not have had as many pancakes as S25's Adam Mellott, but he did have two fewer sacks allowed, which is big compared to the four of Adam Mellott.

I'm gonna go ahead and stop that there, because I think the trend is pretty obvious. Aside from the fact that there are no season 23 quarterbacks, season 23 is better in every offensive position other than tight end, and that trend continues for the defense. This clearly proves that season 23 is the ultimate draft class, since it is so much better than, in my opinion, the second best class in recent history.

RE: (S26) Ultimus Week - r0tzbua - 01-10-2021

16) Your team has made it to the playoffs! Put together a pre-game playlist and explain how those songs will hype your players.
Music is one of the most important parts of my life. It follows me everywhere, no matter where I am there is music. So putting together the hype playlist for the team before the game means a lot to me, so here is the most hypiest playlist I can think of!

Falco - Vienna Calling
Guy has Austrian heritage and loves to teach people about the greatness that is Falco, an Austrian pop star from the 80s and the 90s who had a little bit of international success with "Rock me Amadeus" and "The Commissar". So a little bit of that can be found in the beginning of this playlist.

Scooter - How Much Is The Fish?
The one question that will probably never truly answered by music historians is how much the fish actually is. Or how an old Breton melody from the 20s and a song about cider found it's way into the early 2000s Eurotrash hype anthem that is this song. The frontman of this german music "group" HP Baxxter is a hype-machine and together with the glorious lyrics and the catchy tunes. How can you not get hyped.

Blur - Song 2
If you are not hyped after listening to this then there is something truly wrong with you. I mean, listen to it, it's everything you need to get hyped ever since it stormed the charts (and was included in FIFA 98).

17) You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do?
Oh boy, finally my dream came true and I'm responsible for one of the biggest shows on the planet. I am so ready for this. After calling the air force for having F-35 flyovers and they have to pull them off deployment. Money does not matter, I want everything. I have airplanes, I just called Britney Spears, N-Sync, the Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera and we will do the greatest 90s revival half time show ever while having each of them sing the others' greatest hits in a medley that has never existed before. It will also feature a holographic version of Take That. Not because Take That could not come, but a holographic version is way cooler than the real people coming on stage. Also who does not like holograms, just ask everyone on the Enterprise (the space ship, not the aircraft carrier) or in the Star Wars universe. So now I have planes, I have music and people, the only thing that's left is a great sponsor for it that will help pay for all of that. And fireworks of course. After talking to Pepsi who sponsors the Superbowl Halftime show and they only offered 4million I decide to go with Coca Cola, mainly because it tastes better.

18) Write about another sim league you are in and which parts of it you enjoy. If you are only in the ISFL, write about your ideas for a sim league with another sport.
The ISFL was my first sim league ever and it was what got me into looking into other sim leagues. I enjoyed my time so much here that when a group of fellow Dallas Birddogs decided to join the Simulation Hockey League I decided to join their ranks and play some hockey. I created Finn von Murphenstein shortly after the trade deadline and the first big difference I realized is how little users can do their first few weeks in the league until the offseason tasks come in. That was a huge change. I was signed as an unrostered free agent to the St Louis Scarecrows, and learned my first few things about how the league works there, so that was great even though I did not get any ice time. When the season ended and the offseason and draft preparation came along I realized the next big difference, but it is a difference I actually enjoy: Money is a lot harder to come by. With graphics making a lot less per signature and Media also paying out a lot less I was really happy in the end that the training is also a lot cheaper (at least in the juniors). All in all I still have a lot of fun there, while they are pretty similar in how they work I enjoy them both a lot.

20) Pretend injuries are a thing in the ISFL and your team has had a lot of them lately – so many that your GM has asked you to play out of position. What position are they asking you to play and what about your player build will help you succeed in this role?
The game is tight, there are 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter and the Honolulu Hahalua are down five points. It's a run-pass option play on the 2 yard line and Luke Skywalker drops back with the ball. The run wasn't possible, the pass seems even more impossible. He steps out the pocket, sees a running lane – and gets tackled. Everyone looks in shock as the defender gets up and he holds his leg. The medical team rushes out as the coach yells in shock "I THOUGHT INJURIES ARE TURNED OFF, DAMN SIM TEAM WHAT DID THEY DO?". He turns back, looks over his team, to find someone able to play instead of him. Venus Powers, the kicker with the 45 arm would work out probably, but his eyes rest on Guy Fields. The Linebacker sits on the bench, looking at offensive formations he encountered this game on his Microsoft Surface™ tablet. The coach knows he is not the best choice, because he doesn't even have any arm talent. But he has a plan. He wants to run the wildest of cats. The strong Linebacker would make a perfect, uninjurable machine his Fullback and Runningback could simply push over the OL and over the goal line. It will work out perfectly.

RE: (S26) Ultimus Week - Arvot - 01-10-2021

Tier 1 - Long Form Task - 10 TPE

6) Write 800 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 800 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something.

Earlier in the year, I tried to create an objective scoring system for players using historical averages which I called the WADI, and now I’m back with this seasons scores for Free Safeties.
I use Z-scores to try and measure how people performed in each stat against the historical average. To get a Z-score you need to know the mean (or average) and the standard deviation. A standard deviation is a measure of how much variance there is between all the numbers and gives you an idea of how spread out the results are. A Z-score of +1 is a number that is one standard deviation above the mean and -1 is a number one standard deviation below the mean. For instance, the average number of tackles in a season is 62 and the standard deviation is 19. If a player got 62 tackles, they would get a z-score of 0 whilst if they got 43, they would have a Z-score of -1 (as that is 1 standard deviation below the mean). If they had 81, they would get a Z-score of 1 as that is one standard deviation above the mean. By giving the player a Z-score for each stat and then finding an average of them I can get an idea of how much better or worse they performed to the average overall.
I refined my model a bit by removing outliers from the calculations for the mean and standard deviation. The players who scored those outliers still got credit for having a massive number of one stat, but I didn’t include them in the creation of benchmarks.
So, let’s have a look at how this seasons DSFL Free Safeties got on.

My highest rated DSFL safety this year is Derek Wildstar from the Kansas City Coyotes followed closely by Moe Skeeter from the Portland Pythons. Wildstar made all different types of plays and the WADI scoring system loves all-round performances. Whilst Wildstar had slightly above average Interception numbers, getting 3 which gave them a Z-score of 0.22, they excelled in Forced Fumbles, Fumble Recoveries and Sacks where they got Z-scores over 2 for all of them. They had a solid amount of tackles with 83 which gave them a Z-score of 1.1 for that stat helping to boost their overall average. . This is an impressive season making a lot of big plays and forcing turnovers in lots of different ways. Wildstar’s overall score of 8.45 is 11th best of all time in WADI scoring.
Moe Skeeter scored a very respectable 8.26 which placed them 16th all-time for DSFL safeties. Skeeter had an amazing season for sacks getting a whopping 8 of them. This gave Skeeter a massive Z-score of 4.18, which is off the scale, but the lack of forced fumbles/recoveries hurt their overall average. They were no stranger to big plays getting a pick 6 and a safety! They had an average amount of Interceptions matching Wildstar’s 3 and a very solid 76 tackles, which is enough for a Z-score of 0.74. Overall a very good season for Skeeter which helped the Portland Pythons to an impressive 13-1 record and a spot in the playoffs.
Next up is Jonasredfield Gabjonson for the Bondi Beach Buccaneers. Gabjonson scoring 7.73 WADI which is the 3rd highest score this season, even though they only have 55 TPE and are listed as a CB on their player page. They put up impressive numbers in forced fumbles(2) and fumble recoveries(2) along with scoring 2 touchdowns. They also had a solid amount of interceptions with 3 and had 1 sack. They had a below-average amount of tackles but overall, they made a lot of high impact plays and outplayed their modest TPE totals. A true underdog story of the little guy mixing it up with the more established names in the DSFL.
In 4th place is ME Steven Wadham. I had a solid season scoring 7.34 in the WADI. My season was kick-started by a crazy hot streak early on which helped me end up with a rather impressive 5 interceptions and 3 Sacks not to mention 2 TD. I had an average amount of tackles getting 69 (nice) but the lack of Forced Fumbles or Fumble Recoveries hurt my overall score. The WADI loves an all-rounder so the fact I never even managed one of either hurt my totals and kept me out of the top 3. Still a respectable season with some huge games, but an underwhelming close to the season stopped me from bothering the top spots.
It will be interesting to see how the new SIM changes the averages with people having completely different attributes and different schemes. I think it wouldn’t be right to judge the seasons side by side, but it would be cool to do a comparison.

8) Write a short biography or story about your player. This could include background about how they came to the ISFL and how they’ve done so far, a story about their role in an exciting game, or anything else related to their experience in the league.

Glenn Smart was born in London, England to a teacher and a former professional rugby player, who installed a strong work ethic in him from a young age. Whether it was in the classroom or on the field, maximum effort wasn’t just the benchmark, it was the minimum requirement. After excelling within the sport of rugby at the youth level, just as his father did, Glenn turned his attention to “American Football” shortly after seeing the London Blitz training on an adjacent field to his team.

While Glenn initially started out as a defensive back, usually lining up in the strong safety position, a sudden burst of growth and weight gain during his teenage years led to his position being switched to defensive end — and occasionally outside linebacker, as the team experimented with a 3-4 formation. He would also occasionally line up on the offensive line. With Glenn hitting 6ft and 220lb at the age of 14, his ability to physically dominate the opposition was frequently exploited by his coaches and allowed him to become one of the de facto elite pass rushers in the UK at a youth level, while also being reliable across the offensive line as needed.

Due to the low level of competition available to him and the relatively poor standards of coaching within the UK, Smart remained a very raw talent that was stacking up the stats every game. He would frequently sack the quarterback 6 or 7 times a game, ending his final season in the UK with 53 sacks, 192 tackles, 67 tackles for loss and 14 forced fumbles. Despite the low level of competition, the stats alone garnered some attention from the United States. Do due UK students leaving high school at a lower age than that of their state-side counterparts, Glenn was available to go to college at the age of 16.

Smart would end up at Texas A&M, where he was redshirted in his first year. His coaches cited the need for Smart to refine his technique and add mass in the weight room, should he want to be truly competitive at the college level. It would take him a couple of years to get to grips with the high standard of play he was now faced with, however he did eventually reach his potential — recording 7 stacks from 13 starts in his junior year, followed by an impressive 16.5 sacks from 13 games as a senior.

With college now behind him, Glenn has declared for the upcoming DSFL draft, after which he will, once again, have to adapt to the higher standard of play all over again.

This would simply have to be tea. In Boston. At the harbor. Imagine the visual feast of a 6’3, 270lb man sitting on an apartment balcony overlooking Boston Harbor, sipping a cup of tea — pinky raised… the whole 9 yards. The campaign would have to be humorous and could be extended to many other things, referencing the colourful history between the UK and the USA. For example, Glenn could also be seen sitting at a table, sipping tea (again, pinkie finger raised) with a body of water behind him. As the camera pans out, the table would be on a boat. The body of water in the background would be revealed to be the Potomac river. The destination would be Washington DC. A cheeky grin at the camera and we’re done. Never a word spoken. Let the cinematics tell the story.

The brand of tea would need to be something high end, like TWG, Tea Forte or Jade Leaf Matcha. Naturally, Glenn would need to be in a 3 piece suit. Maybe something made of tweed with a Union Jack tie, for that classical British look. I’m not entirely sure the campaign would be successful but it would make me infinitely happy.
