(Terrible pun very intended.) Lets start in Round 1, where we selected the player at the top of my personal draft board, kicker Swantavius King, user @"Maglubiyet". We had Mag on our radar as soon as he created at kicker. One of the league's friendliest and most dedicated users recreating at our position of greatest need? We knew right away this was going to be a perfect match. The question was going to be, could we get him? Thankfully he was still on the board for us at Pick #10. There was a bit of internal debate about whether we could trade up and get him at the top of the second round, but the war room wisely chose not to risk it and we got our man! Mag has immediately made himself at home in the Sailfish locker room, and on the field Swantavius King has been perfect through the first two weeks of the season, including two game-winning field goals! I'm every bit as pleased with our Round 2 selection at 24th overall, Portland DT Mistah Freddy, user @seafreddy. I had a great scouting conversation with him and talked him up as much as I could to the rest of the war room. It's always great to be able to welcome a new user to the league, and Freddy has been a great new presence in the Sailfish locker room. Along with both Maglubiyet and yours truly, he proudly wears the pink "Proud Dad" Discord tag in the locker room! We even managed to score one of the greatest possible steals of the draft in S Daniel Sturgeon at Pick #52, user @Insurgent1315. Not as active as Mag or Freddy, but another user who's great to have in the locker room when they do stop by to visit. The Future of the 'Fish is looking bright! I'm torn between Berlin and Austin. Berlin, on one hand, had three picks in the top 25 and got really great value from each pick. Then, on the other hand, Austin kind of inflated their value by locking in frazzle in the 2nd round as a GM pick, and then I believe they grabbed a really great user and player in the 3rd round, in Ryland Bunnell. 3rd round picks are mostly hit or miss, but RylandB is one we, in Honolulu, were most likely going to select with pick 40. That's a good transition into who I think is the best steal of the draft. That could me interpreted in many ways, but I think RylandB is really one to consider here. He seems really engaged and could be a diamond in the rough. Jimi is also a steal, in my eyes. Proven commodity, and even though he's admitted his earning won't be what it has been in the past, he's still going to be consistent even if not max, and he's a grade A user. As for rookie of the year... On defense, my pick would be Cob Corning. On offense, I'll go with Kumquat Archipelago. Words - 211 RE: (S35) PT 1 - Draft Recap - TheRocheLimit - 05-06-2022 As Co-GM of the New York Silverbacks, I think we had a phenomenal draft. Defense was the priority for us early in the draft and we were extremely fortunate to have a player as talented as Regina Ferraro fall to the eighth pick. We definitely felt Ferraro was worthy of a top five pick, so we ran to the podium to turn the selection in as soon as we could. I'd definitely consider Ferraro a steal in the middle of the first round. Regina Ferraro will start for the Silverbacks from day one and we look forward to an immediate impact. New York is also calling up a few players from last year's draft. Wide receiver Darius Bailey and tight end Nacho Macho Man will inject the Silverbacks offense with some youth. We think the sky is the limit for these rookies, and all three (Ferraro, Bailey, and Macho Man) should be serious contenders for Rookie of the Year awards once the season is over. |
