*Joliet L. Christ - Player profile - AW13 - 12-10-2018

My player, Joliet L. Christ has so far had a career full of ups and downs and considering he just finished his rookie season in the NSFL, looks to hopefully add more ups than downs for the rest of the season. Going into his official 2nd year in the NSFL with the San Jose Sabercats, we will look at Christ with some brief detail.

Biography/History

Joliet L. Christ was a 3-star recruit in college and with offers from some FBS schools, decided to take his talents to a local school in the University of South Dakota. While many people assumed that he would be going to his hometown South Dakota State Jackrabbits, the feel of the program in Vermillion was much better to Joliet. He played 4 seasons at the University of South Dakota and broke many records including rushing yards and touchdowns which was unfathomable for a quarterback. He also holds school records for passing yards, touchdowns and rating so he pretty much rewrote the record books for the school. Although they don't have a huge sustained history of football success, the Coyotes have had some good teams in their program history. Usually, they don't get players of Christ's ability however and with offers from Central Michigan, Iowa State, and Northern Illinois amongst others, he could have played with a bigger program, but he stayed in-state and excelled both on and off the field.

Christ was noticed by scouts from the CFL, NFL, EFL and the NSFL and while he had many options where he potentially could have played, he decided to venture into the world of the NSFL. He entered late, after a playoff loss in the FCS championship game, into the waiver systems for the DSFL and was picked up by Portland. He only threw around 50 passes and started the team's playoff game where he showed off some ability and made himself stick out to both the DSFL and the Pythons' management. The Pythons, in the next DSFL draft, took Christ 5th overall, one spot after another young signal caller in Adriana Falconi. Christ went on to lead Portland to 2 Ultimini games, losing Season 9 in a heartbreaking OT loss to Tijuana and Season 10 also to Tijuana in a game that was not close. He showed ability in both games, yet did not get many opportunities in the Season 10 Ultimini. What was found out is that he torn his meniscus and suffered an undisclosed injury to his MCL during the game and played through it. This caused him to lose a lot of mobility for the game and the near future as he recovered.

Going back, after his Season 9 season, he was noticed by the NSFL scouts for his work ethic and both his on and off the field stuff. He was selected 4th overall this time in the Season 10 NSFL draft by the San Jose Sabercats, one pick ahead of Adriana Falconi this time. Many thought Falconi was the obvious first QB off the board but San Jose saw their guy and went for him. Christ is now a Sabercat and after being sent down for one season in season 10, he got the call up for season 11. Season 11 was a bit of a rough learning curve for young Joliet as the team, expected to get better, got worse, and Joliet was a big reason. He threw 10 touchdowns and 19 interceptions while also completing less than 58% of his passes, though his completion percentage was better than Showbiz of OCO and Falconi of PHI. It was a season to learn and grow. Going into season 12, the expectations are high for Christ and the Sabercats.

Season 12 Development
Now for Christ, after a rough Season 11, Season 12 looks to be when he can make the jump from a young rookie signal caller to an established quarterback in the NSFL. His arm is getting better every day and where it was somewhat weak before, is now pretty strong and has the potential to get even stronger with continued practice and tweaks to his game. Christ looks to build his arm strength to really expose defenses and allow his talented weapons the chance to take the cover off the defense. He also needs to work on his decision making as a lot of his interceptions last season came at a costly time in the games, that needs to change. That will come with time and he should be able to improve that just by being on the field more in his career. Lastly, he looks to continue to work on his mobility after his injury suffered in the Season 10 DSFL Ultimini. He was a sitting duck in the pocket last year and was sacked a lot. Not having those long downs to play with will help Christ and the Sabercats in their pursuit of wins.

The Fit
The San Jose offense has some dynamic players in Flash, Oles, Canton, Brannigan, Orosz, Tuck, and more and Christ just needs to get the ball to his weapons. More often than not, Christ failed to get the ball to the talented players and let them work, that needs to change. With a growing arm and gaining mobility to avoid sacks, Christ looks to get the ball out to the playmakers and let them dominate. Christ is a great fit in the offense as he has so much arm potential that the weapons can slide in and really benefit from being able to catch deep balls and passes that not many other quarterbacks could even imagine throwing.

Overall
Christ will improve and so will the Sabercats. While he is not a popular fantasy pick, he has just as much potential as any to have a breakout season. Even with just average play, San Jose will improve but if Christ develops that arm and mobility more and has an above average season, we may be talking San Jose in the playoffs for the next few seasons while Christ enters his prime.
