Tweed makes first start for Yeti in Week 1 victory - PigSnout - 06-13-2017

The Yeti’s Week 1 matchup against the Hawks was an important day for Boss Tweed. Not only because it was the Yeti’s first regular season win in franchise history, but because it was also the first start in Tweed’s career. In the Yeti’s 4 preseason games, Tweed did not receive any carries. However, he did not let this time go to waste. Tweed trained very hard during the preseason and increased his TPE by 36 between the update before the preseason and the update before the regular season. Tweed’s hard work paid off as he was chosen as the Yeti’s starting running back for their opening game against the Baltimore Hawks.

Many were doubtful of Boss Tweed entering the Yeti’s first game. Prior to this game, his only experience at the pro level was the All American Bowl. Tweed turned in a poor performance in that game as he recorded 0 yards on 4 carries. His struggles during the All American Bowl led many to question whether he would ever be able to adapt to the higher competition he would face at the professional level. Boss Tweed stated in his pregame interview that he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder after his performance in the All American bowl because he felt the need to prove that he could stand up to a higher level of competition and be a successful player in the NSFL. Additionally many people were starting to question whether the Yeti could be a contender as many preseason predictions predicted after the Yeti’s disappointing 1-3 preseason. Tweed said that he wanted to get a win to disprove the doubters of both himself and his team.

Tweed’s first start was pretty much everything he hoped for. Tweed finished the game with 93 yards on 20 carries, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Additionally, he carried in a 3-yard touchdown that put the Yeti ahead in the third quarter. Tweed did not only make an impact in the rushing game, he also caught a pass for 8 yards and recorded 2 pancakes as a blocker. Not only did Tweed have a successful first start and help lead his team to victory, but he was also recognized as the offensive player of the game afterward. After a lot of work to earn a starting role in an NSFL game, Tweed put up a very successful showing.

The Yeti’s Week 1 victory was not only an accomplishment for Tweed individually, but it showed some positive signs for the team as a whole. Every victory is important, but this one was especially satisfying as the Yeti ended the Hawks’ four game preseason winning streak and handed them their first ever loss. Many placed the Yeti as one of the league’s weaker teams after their preseason struggles, but they reasserted themselves as a top team by beating the Hawks, who looked like the league’s best team during the preseason. One of the Yeti’s greatest struggles during the preseason was converting touchdowns. They only scored three touchdowns during the entire preseason compared to seven field goals and did not score any rushing touchdowns. The Yeti looked like a different team during Week 1 as they matched their preseason total by scoring 3 touchdowns in one game, including two rushing touchdowns. This was perhaps the biggest difference between the Yeti’s humbling 25-3 loss to the Hawks in the first game of the preseason and their 23-20 victory. The Yeti were not able to completely stop Scrub Kyubee, the Hawks’ red-hot quarterback, but they were able to keep up with the Hawks’ offense in scoring this time. Additionally, Yeti quarterback Logan Noble looked very sharp as he completed 75% of his passes against the Hawks. The Yeti’s success in the preseason was closely tied to Noble’s performance and he played a big role in their victory over the Hawks. The Yeti’s appear to have made some great adjustments since the preseason, as seen by the fact that they won their first regular season game against a team that beat them by 22 points in the preseason. Some will still doubt the Yeti after their preseason struggles, but the Yeti are looking ahead to the regular season now. The Yeti now sit at 1-0 and look to avenge another preseason loss in Week 2 as they take on the undefeated Wraiths in a battle for first place in the NSFC.
