[Ready to be graded]

Following Iowa's Outback Bowl victory over Mississippi State, nose tackle AJ Lattimer has officially declared for the DSFL draft.

The standout Junior racked up 69 tackles over the course of the season, along with 8.5 sacks and 3 FF, earning him 2nd-Team All-Big Ten honors. Lattimer's size and strength often overwhelmed offensive linemen, which caught the attention of scouts across the nation.

Prior to joining the Hawkeyes, Lattimer had planned on going to a smaller school in state while most teams took a pass on the 2-star prospect out of Newark, NJ. However, when Iowa provided him with his only scholarship offer from a team in a Power 5 conference, he jumped at the opportunity and quickly became a fan favorite by the end of his college career. He will be sorely missed by the Hawkeye faithful.

"I am thankful for the opportunity," AJ responded when questioned about his journey to the Hawkeyes. "I appreciate the work Coach [Ferentz] put in with me and the support from the fans. Now, I'm ready for the next step."

Lattimer has a lot of work ahead of him in preparation for draft day. Measuring in at 6'3", 307 lbs, his wide frame is drawing concerns about footwork and agility from DSFL teams.

"Strong run stopper. Powerful body in the middle of the line, but may not have the speed or quickness to recover when taken out of a play. Relies too much on brute force, needs more work on finesse moves. Works well in a 3-4 scheme." writes one scout.

Lattimer may not be an instant star, but at 22 years old he has the raw talent and massive potential to become the centerpiece of a professional defensive line. It isn't certain where he'll end up, but there is no doubt he will be a weekly contributor for his team.
