Week 2 Power Rankings - RainDelay - 06-15-2017

This was originally supposed to be Week 1 power rankings, but I am writing it after week 2, so might as well update it.

Due date: 6/15/17 (Today)

1. COL Colorado Yeti (2-0) COL

In a league that has just begun, it is hard to truly stand out from the pack of teams. After all, these teams are brand new. The best way to stand out in the early stages, I guess, is to be 2-0. Since the Colorado Yeti are the only team with two wins on the young season, they get the top spot in today's Power Rankings. The Colorado team leads the NSFL in rushing yards per game, and a large part of that is the three-headed attack of Boss Tweed, Luke Tiernan, and Kieran O'Connell. It may be hard to give all three of these guys carries in the future, so one can only wonder how long one of them will be wearing dark red and white for. Either way, it certainly works now, and they will look to take the same kind of rushing attack when the take on Yellowknife in Week 3 for the second time in a row.

2. YKW Yellowknife Wraiths (1-1) YKW

At number two is the team that lost to the holder of the current top spot. While Bubba Nuck has had some solid games rushing the football, the bright spots of this team are on the defensive side. Lindarius Shelton, Jason Spearhead and Mark Ramrio all had strong performances, and did their best to limit the Colorado offense. This game could have been a lot more lopsided if they had not come up in big situations. Bojo Kicksit hit clutch field goals to eventually do in the Wraiths, but until the late game, they held the Yeti out of the endzone. A strong Week 1 showing against the solid-looking San Jose Sabercats sent the Canadian side to the #2 spot in our rankings.

3. SJS San Jose Sabercats (1-1) SJS

Rounding out the top half of the power rankings are the San Jose Sabercats, who picked up a big win against the Arizona Outlaws in Week 2. The team admittedly looked a bit lackluster offensively, but they certainly made up for it on the other end. Defensive tackle Dan Miller sacked Arizona quarterback Vincent Draxel four...yes FOUR times in the matchup, and team also added eight more sacks. Bert Metas was another standout in the front line. Jameis Christ is due to break out, and as he works on his intelligence, he may very well find success. Having Bailey Cook, Shane Weston and Break Bottles to throw to also helps.

4. BAL Baltimore Hawks (0-2) BAL

The Hawks are 0-2, so naturally, one may question why they are higher than two teams who have a win. It's certainly a fair discussion. For me, the two major contributing factors are quarterback play and off-field issues, the latter of which the Hawks seem free of at least in the public eye. So that leaves the quarterback play as a separation factor. Scrub Kyubee, despite his name, has performed better than Vincent Draxel, and much better than Mike Boss. He has thrown for three touchdowns and only one interception, all while completing sixty percent of his passes. This leaves a very good piece of hope for Baltimore fans to hang their hats on, as many have faith that Kyubee and the Hawks will turn this young season around.

5. ARI Arizona Outlaws (1-1) ARI

In the fifth spot we have the Arizona Outlaws, a team who's line gave up twelve sacks. While they came away with a victory in week 1, it had nothing to do with the offense. Reg Mackworthy had an incredibly underwhelming line in the opener, and so did Draxel, who completed only eight of his twenty-two passes. To add insult to injury, the quarterback went on a tirade recently, and quit the league, then revoked his comments, returning to the locker room. With all this chaos surrounding the team, only time will tell if they will strap it together, or become mired in a black cloud they won't be able to shake.

6. OCO Orange County Otters (1-1) OCO

Finally, in an ironic twist, we have everyone's preseason favorite, the Orange County Otters. Ever since game one, this team has been plagued with controversy and in-fighting. You think the Outlaws were troublesome? Oh boy, nothing compares to this. It all started on the field, when starter Mike Boss threw six interceptions, and backup Josh Bercovici called him out on it. This has spiraled into a locker room war, and now Boss is holding out to be released or traded. Nobody even knows that Bercovici would do any better, but he will likely get the next two starts. This is what happens when you have two hot-headed personalities engaged in the only true positional battle (eye toward the running backs) on the team. Even the GMs were engaging in the fighting, which probably fueled the fire even more. Talking about on-field highlights isn't even worth it right now until the Otters figure it out off the field.

1-1 behind an 0-2 team. Looks like we still get no respect.

All signs in the news point to disaster brewing. I'm challenging them to prove me wrong is all. Unfortunately for them, the Cats are up to the challenge in Weeks 3 and 4.

It's not a matter of respect. The reasoning was clearly stated, and Baltimore has actually played better.

The off field issues are vastly overstated. Doesn't matter though, looks like we'll just win some more.
