[Ready for Grading]

The S14 DSFL season is underway and the race for the coveted Ultimini has begun! The action started with a powerful display by the Norfolk SeaWolves, who found themselves matched last week against the Kansas City Coyotes in what was touted as one of the top match-ups of week one. Alas, the game did not live up to the hype, as the fleet easily handled the hapless Coyotes, pushing to a sizable lead in the second quarter. The effort was spearheaded by running-back Apollo Reed, who not only started off the scoring for the day on a 6-yard scamper, but capped a pair of runs for touchdowns to drive the nails in the second quarter coffin. Sharing the backfield was Dofus Jimbo, who added the cement and flowers to the Coyotes' burial on a 81-yard burst midway through the third. Some Kansas City hopefuls looked wistfully toward the Coyotes sideline, perhaps hoping for the backup quarterback to pull out some of his preseason magic and answer with a 80+ yard touchdown of his own, but none was to come. While the Coyotes' backup was the last to score in the game, it was an effort given too little, too late, as the SeaWolves steamrolled their opponents 35-13.
The second game of the week would serve as an intermission for a pair of blowouts, generating mild drama in a game that was further apart than the final boxscore showed, and the San Antonio Marshals held on against the Palm Beach Solar Bears 29-24.
The Portland Pythons would finish the blowout-themed opening week, pummeling the Tijuana Luchadores in a shutout affair 41-0.

The week two slate of match-ups promised as much as their week one counterparts, and they delivered just a bit more. A defensive match-up started the week off, with the Luchadores breaking into the win column against the Solar Bears. The game crawled out of reach for the Bears in the third, as Palm Beach could not muster together a scoring drive in the second half and Tijuana put a field goal in each of the third and fourth quarters, victorious to the tune of 16-6.
The second game of the week delivered a bit more drama, as the Marshals slid past the Coyotes 17-8. It looked like Kansas City would come back after San Antonio jumped out to a 14-2 lead early in the second, scoring a pair of Paul Dimirio III field goals, but the Marshals outlasted their opponents with a field goal of their own in the fourth, and ended ahead 17-8.
The final game of the week featured a heavyweight match between undefeated foes. The scoring was sluggish to start, until Kermit Stronglegs of the Pythons punched it in from 12 yards deep five minutes into the second. Portland displayed exceptional "bend-don't-break" mentality deep into the fourth quarter, allowing Norfolk to score only field goals on their first three scoring drives. The game might have gone out of reach if not for the fantastic defensive play of Norfolk cornerback Tobias Chase, who intercepted a Franklin Armstrong pass with ten minutes to go in the fourth. The pick set Norfolk up on a short field, allowing the strong SeaWolves run game to pound the rock to the promised land and go successful on their 2-point conversion attempt, tying the game with about nine minutes to go. The fleet would force a three-and-out on the following Pythons drive, and Cameron Clutch came through on his second 30-yard attempt of the day to give the Seawolves their first lead, 20-17, with about six minutes left in the game. Portland began their final drive strong, moving the ball to the Norfolk side of the field with plenty of time to score. A questionable call to go for it on fourth down allowed first overall pick Allen Josh to break through for a game-ending sack, and the SeaWolves held on to the win to advance to week three as one of only two remaining undefeated teams.
