*S14 DSFL Draftee's TPE Averages - BigKicks - 04-24-2019

So today I was looking at my updates page and noticed my TPE count seemed a bit low. I felt that there was something missing from it, so I looked around and soon discovered I had forgot to apply 3 weeks worth of Weekly Trainings, or about 15 TPE. I went ahead and added them to my updates page, and brought up my expected TPE count to 161. This situation got me thinking "I wonder what my draft class's average TPE is?". So I went ahead and did some math, and ended up with these two numbers:

Total TPE: 13,559
Average TPE: 124

Of the 109 players selected in the draft, 26 of them have never updated their player. If we take them out of the equation, we end up with this:

Total TPE: 12,259
Average TPE: 148

So it seems I was lagging a bit behind by not applying that TPE I was paying for. But now that I've fixed that, I'm moving along nicely. And then I came up with the idea of finding out how everyone else in the draft compares with the average. For this, I'm going to compare every player to the second average I came up with (those pesky 50 TPE players mess everything up otherwise). Their TPE count is to the left of their name. I have also decided to color code this so that it's easier to understand.

Players marked in PURPLE are 50+ TPE above the average.(198+)
Players marked in GREEN are 25-49 TPE above the average. (173 - 197)
Players marked in BLUE are 11-24 TPE above the average. (159 - 172)
Players marked in GRAY are within 10 TPE of the average, above or below. (138-158)
Players marked in YELLOW are 11-24 TPE below the average. (124 - 137)
Players marked in ORANGE are 25-49 TPE below the average. (99 - 123)
Players marked in RED are 50+ TPE below the average. (50 - 98)

Once again, the average I'm using is 148 TPE .

28 players drafted are marked PURPLE.
10 players drafted are marked GREEN.
4 players drafted are marked BLUE.
6 players drafted are marked GRAY.
1 player drafted is marked YELLOW.
7 players drafted are marked ORANGE.
53 players drafted are marked RED.

So despite 26 players never updating, there are still 27 players from this draft who are in the red. An even more interesting thing is that there are 28 purple marked players! At this point I've been working on this for 2 hours and have other stuff to do. Feel free to use my findings.

This is only accurate up to 4/24/19, and will not be updated after future TPE updates. If I made any mistakes, please tell me.

So GMs can find easy top quality value picks in the first four rounds of the up coming NSFL draft. From the fifth round on, will really demonstrate a GMs scouting skills.

This is really well done. Nice to see the entire draft class color coded by TPE.

Great article! Very interesting to see the visual guide and the slow fade from purple to red...

That is an interesting point, although it's worth noting that the NSFL drafts differently. For example, I think that if the NSFL teams were picking these players off the information we had before the DSFL draft, Emondov Emoji goes first overall because an inactive doesn't help you in the NSFL. Inactives in the DSFL are fine, but when you pick 1st overall you want a member with a proven track record of max earning, which Emoji had. Also, let's not pretend like the first four rounds are guaranteed to be good picks, because #1 OA picks have busted before. Spectacularly, in fact - the first pick ever, DT JJ Reigns, went inactive shortly after the draft and bounced around the league, converted positions, and eventually retired after an irrelevant career. So the GMs may be able to easily find relatively high TPE players for a while, but getting the stars will be harder than it looks.

If you want an example of bad scouting, take a peep at the S2 draft. That draft happened before the DSFL existed so every pick was based off 2 weeks of that person being around. That's how actives like Kennedy fell to extraordinarily late rounds, and players that didn't amount to much like Blade were picked very early.

Either way, I can't wait until the draft happens!

This is a great article, nice job! It's interesting to see that round 5 actually had the most above average TPE earners.

EDIT: Meant to say top earner (purple colored) above average

Well technically, tied for the most above average TPE earners with rounds 1, 2, 4, and 6

Damn if only I'd have found this place a week earlier, then I'd be in the purple for sure. So close right now as is!

True we can't predict how active people stay. As such do you think recreates will still be heavily taken before first timers? Perhaps not to the same degree as the DSFL draft was, but recreates still have that proven track record of staying active for a full career compared to the rest of us. So should we expect the first 10 picks be predominatly recreates (I don't know how many recreates there are in this class)? Or will they still be spread out through the first few rounds because of position needs and TPE differences?

Despite you, myself and a few other safeties competing for the most TPE at our position, you still have the advantage of being aknown comodity.

This class is limited in recreates, and some of them don't have outstanding TPE (Beaver-Dantes, Burr-Kirven, and Josh come to mind). And the top TPE earner, recreate Emondov Emoji, is already locked into the 19th pick. There's not much in terms of recreates, but I expect position need to play into the draft more than usual because you can easily find top TPE earners.

Oh and re: safeties, while there's not really any meaningful difference between our TPEs (215 vs 213 vs 211), I think I should be first off the board because of the recreate factor and my GM experience and such. But I think you and Terim will be high picks too. After McKinnie (206), there's a small drop-off before Uchiha (186), Humu (175), Krou (174), Rambo (161), and others. This safety class is insanely deep and there will be a lot of competition in the future!
