*Childhood Experiences in Sports - idkman - 06-29-2019

When Ducky was a child growing up in Indianapolis, he always looked up to his favorite sports stars. Stars' posters covering the walls of his room, various balls and tools for physical activities scattered around his backyard, most sports kids' houses looked this way. However, as you might not expect, Ducky never dreamed of himself as a football star, he always loved the game of baseball growing up. He dreamed of himself making a jump throw like Jeter, or walking it off with a big fly in the World Series. He dreamed of heroics on the diamond and, when his parents asked him what he wanted to do over the summer/at school/just anywhere, he'd scream "I wanna play baseball mom!" He joined many a baseball league as a kid, teeball, coach pitch, then finallyLittle League teams as he got older. However, his short stature made him ineffective in many places, and his natural playstyle frustrated him, as he'd often strike out swinging trying to hit one over the fence. He started being relegated to the outfield and even his burning desire for the sport couldn't stop him being placed at the bottom of the batting order. He hated this so much that he eventually quit the sport altogether and vowed to never play baseball again. He sat at home, sad, for most of the summer, nothing to do as he faced a lack of motivation to do what he once loved. His parents tried in desperation to get him to go over to a friends house, sign up for a camp or other sport, even just get out of the house for a while. He refused to do anything, as the only thing he once loved to do was taken from him. Then he discovered football. After his parents coerced him to go outside as he rarely did, they stumbled upon some kids from his school playing a game of football in a park. His parents forc- er, he decided to join in the game, and the other kids laughed at him. The shortest kid in school, playing football? Idiot. But they eventually found that his blazing speed let him get past any cornerback that was on his tail, and he joined the school team as a wide receiver. The coach snickered at him, much like the other kids had, but he showed up for tryouts and the coach was forced to let him onto the squad, as it was middle school, and if anyone was rejected, well, you know how parents of middle schoolers would be. However he blossomed as a talent on the team. Originally a backup, placed in the very back of the depth chart, he was their WR1 by the start of the season as his blazing speed and great stamina made him able to go deep into games, and hurt the other teams at any minute. However, he was ineffective on jump balls, and when teams started getting more intelligent zone coverage, even great route running such as his couldn't compete against corners a foot taller. So, going into high school, he was faced with a tough decision. Stay with the position he knew and risk falling into obscurity, or change positions for a chance at a new breakthrough? He had to make a choice... (I don't write much, sorry if this isn't that great, I just wanted to do something for double draft media Tongue)
