Waiver Watch Season 1 (2/3) - White Cornerback - 06-24-2017

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]As we reach the midway point of our inaugural season, many of the waiver players have shone in various aspects of the game. This is the second chapter of our three part annual series focusing on waiver players in which we analyze the present but also forecast the future. This article will not only contain updates on the players who were inspected in part one, but also first impressions of players signed mid-season. [/div]

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Ryan Ellis - Kicker (Yellowknife Wraiths) - UNDRAFTED [/div]
As we predicted in part one, Ryan Ellis was signed just to provide depth to the Wraith's kicking and punting services. The Guntersville native unfortunately has been seldom used this year, only punting a measly 4 times for 147 yards. Ellis hasn't had even a single field goal attempt this year behind the impeccable Archibald Booter who has been in fine form for the Yellowknife Wraiths. Ellis will likely be released at the conclusion of the S1 season and it's unlikely he will be picked up by any other team.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Dermot Lavelle - Cornerback (Yellowknife Wraiths) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Lavelle who was picked first off the waiver wire in S1 has outperformed expectations this year. Lavelle who we predicted would fill the #2 CB spot for the Wraiths has done just that. Lavelle has amassed 30 tackles, 1 interception (joint 5th), 11 pass deflections (3rd) with 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery (joint 4th). So far this season Lavelle has outperformed #1 Dirk Cutter in the cornerback spot but many critics have pointed out that Dirk is covering the #1 wide receiver on each team whereas the lesser players drop to Lavelle. Cutter has also had a very slow start this season. At this point of the season it seems many experts forecast Lavelle as a top 3 pick, with some even forecasting him for the #1 spot in the S2 draft.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Frederick Smith - Defensive Tackle (Yellowknife Wraiths) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Frederick Smith has not played a single snap this year and to the naked eye it may seem like a pointless free agent signing. However, there are many aspects of the game which aren't recorded on the NSFL stat sheet. Smith has worked tirelessly with both Mark Ramrio and Trent Bender despite both DT's being his biggest rivals on the team. Rumours have been circulating online that Smith has been eyeing up possible managerial roles in the NSFL.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"] Teez Tobin - Running Back (Yellowknife Wraiths) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Teez Tobin was signed by the Yellowknife Wraiths to become the third string running back behind backup Jack Stats and starter Bubba Nuck. The Rhode Island native who went to college in Nicholls State, Louisiana is primarily a receiving back. Teez has had limited snaps this year, only rushing 12 times for 45 yards and 1 touchdown (joint 4th). Tobin also has 10 catches for 92 yards. Regarding Tobin's S2 prospects, Tobin is currently the only running back declared for the S2 draft as of time of writing. It doesn't seem that any team is desperate for a running back but injuries can happen anytime in the NSFL.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Mark Bowden - Cornerback (Colorado Yeti) UNDRAFTED[/div]
Bowden as predicted has lined up in the #3 CB spot for the Yeti. Bowden has largely done his job in terms of expectations. He currently has 20 tackles with no other recorded stats. Bowden who went undrafted in the S1 draft is likely to be given a contract extension by the Yeti's to provide depth.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Bernard Forthward - Offensive Lineman (Colorado Yeti) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Forthward has started all 8 games for the Yeti this season, in his pre rookie season he has amassed 18 pancakes (joint 10th) and has only allowed 2 sacks (joint 3rd). In part one we highlighted the lack of offensive lineman on the Yeti and the potential need for this signing. The Yeti are enjoying the fruits of their labour as Forthward has performed well this season alongside Bender Rodriguez. Looking to the future of the S2 draft, Forthward is likely to be a top 10 pick mainly due to the lack of solid offensive lineman in the league currently. The man from North Carolina will be a great pickup for those eyeing him up in the S2 draft.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Rich Gucci - Tight End (Colorado Yeti) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Rich Gucci out of Boston College is a well rounded tight end but favours fade routes and any plays that use his 6'4 frame to their advantage. Gucci becomes the third waiver signing by the Yeti and has slotted in at the #1 spot. Gucci has only missed a single game this season and already has 20 catches for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns (joint 5th). Gucci also has 4 blocking pancakes to his name. Gucci is currently the only TE who has declared for the S2 draft and could well end up being drafted by the Yeti who see his performances this year as a season long combine.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Barrick Acolyte - Linebacker (Colorado Yeti) UNDRAFTED[/div]
The Chicago native went undrafted in the S1 draft, mainly due to worries regarding injuries in his collegiate career at Florida State and various PED charges. Acolyte was signed by the Yeti purely to provide depth behind existing linebackers Fulton and Saint. #51 is an all rounder type of player who does not have any glaring weakness nor does he have any impressive strengths. Barrick Acolyte so far this year has not played a single snap and is likely to be released at the end of this year due to repeated sanctions by the NSFL regarding its wellness policy.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Ryan Lecavalier - Wide Receiver (Baltimore Hawks) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
As predicted, Lecavalier lined up in the #3 WR spot for Baltimore this season. Lecavalier only has 12 catches this season, 123 yards and 1 touchdown. These low stats are not surprising considering the quality receivers ahead of him on the depth chart such as Damian West and Cooper Christmas. Lecavalier is likely to be a late round pick in next years S2 draft due to the abundance of wide receivers currently in the league, this is of course if we don't see any expansion teams formed in the off season. The 20 year old has potential to be great if he puts in the necessary effort on the training pitch.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Vincent Sharpei - Offensive Lineman (Baltimore Hawks) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Vincent Sharpei who was an average player when claimed on the waiver has played well this season for the hawks. Sharpei's 16 pancakes (joint 11th) and only 3 sacks allowed (joint 4th) have no doubt impressed the Hawks coaching staff. Sharpei was largely signed to hopefully learn from Jordan Weal and improve as a balanced pass and rush blocker. Sharpei is just one of the many lineman eligible for next years draft, we have him projected as a top 5 pick. The Chicago native will no doubt aim to break into the top 3 spot for the S2 draft.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Isaiah McGinn - Safety (Baltimore Hawks) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
McGinn became the third waiver signing of Baltimore. McGinn has lined up in the #1 FS spot just ahead of #2 Sunday Showcase. McGinn who hails from Detroit, Michigan had a very successful collegiate career at UOM , setting various records such as most interceptions in a season and most punt return touchdowns in a season. However what McGinn lacks in hit power and tackling ability, he makes up for it with quick hands and an ability to make big plays defensively. McGinn currently has 20 tackles, 1 interception (joint 5th) and 1 pass defense. . McGinn is the first safety declared for the S2 draft but as of now his draft stock hasn't been affected positively or negatively. He looks likely to be a second/third round pick.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Braden Sharp - Offensive Lineman (Arizona Outlaws) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Sharp was signed with hopes of using his improved run blocking to allow gaps to form and open up the Arizona run game. Sharp has 14 pancakes this year, a relatively small number considering he's started all eight games. Unfortunately Sharp has allowed 6 sacks this year (joint 3rd worst) in the league. Sharp's draft stock is falling and for his sake he hopes to stop the rut in the final stretch of the season.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Blaster Blade - Defensive End (Arizona Outlaws) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
It's no surprise that Jayce Tuck is the #1 DE for the Outlaws, but what will surprise you is that Blaster Blade has largely been out performing Dental Dam for the #2 spot. Despite being claimed off the waivers as opposed to Dam being drafted, Blaster has claimed 24 tackles, 8 of which were tackles for loss (4th best) , 4 sacks (joint 5th) and 2 forced fumbles with 1 fumble recovery (joint 2nd). Dam has a very bright future ahead of him and if it weren't for 1 year max deal which accompanies a waiver player, he would've possibly claimed the #1 spot over Jayce Tuck in a few years. Blaster will likely be the 8th or 9th pick in the S2 draft next year. Despite Blade's social media fiasco which detailed his desire to play for the Outlaws and nowhere else, recently Blade has been open to the media and has stressed that he will have no qualms about where he plays next year when drafted.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Tim Pest - Offensive Lineman(Arizona Outlaws) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Pest becomes the fourth offensive lineman on the Arizona team. Pest is primarily a run blocker who boasts an impressive level of strength. Arizona hoped when signing Pest that he would quickly learn from Thomas and Jefferspin. Tim Pest currently has 21 pancakes (7th best) this season accompanied by 7 sacks allowed (joint 2nd worst in the league). Pest's draft stock has been affected by this poor start of the season and he will want to improve or otherwise be named "The Turnstile".

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Connor MacManus - Offensive Lineman (San Jose SaberCats) S2 PROSPECT [/div]
MacManus was signed by the SaberCats and became the fourth offensive lineman on the roster. Unfortunately for the SaberCats, this strategy of padding lineman has not paid dividends for them following a 1-7 record. MacManus however has amassed 23 pancakes for San Jose whilst allowing 6 sacks. In a league where offensive lineman are few and far between, MacManus has the potential to be a starter on a championship caliber team if he progresses as we expect him to. MacManus will be hoping to part ways with San Jose following their terrible start to the S1 season. We project MacManus to be one of the last picks on this list in the S2 draft.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Jack Vanderjagt - Kicker(San Jose SaberCats) S2 PROSPECT [/div]
Vanderjagt who hails from Oakville , Canada was the second waiver player claimed by the San Jose SaberCats. Unfortunately Vanderjagt didn't play a single snap for the Cats and as of now he is not listed on the teams official roster which we presume means he has been released. Vanderjagt will enter next years draft but having not had much of a collegiate career in his community college (Allan Hancock College) and already being released by a NSFL team this early in his career, the future looks grim and it looks like he will go undrafted.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Greg Clegane - Offensive Lineman (Orange County Otters) S2 PROSPECT[/div]
Clegane who was the last name picked up on the waiver mentioned in part 1 has done well for large parts of the year. Clegane has 23 pancakes (joint 6th) and has only allowed 4 sacks (joint 5th) all season. "The Mountain" was not expected to do much this year, he was signed mainly just to provide depth. Clegane has learned from fellow athletic lineman Angus Winchester and has progressed well in the opening eight weeks of the season. Clegane is being forecasted as possibly the #1 or #2 pick in next years draft being preceded or followed by Lavelle.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]This concludes part 2 of our Season 1 Waiver Watch series. Part 3 will be released shortly after the conclusion of the S1 regular season.[/div]

How can I be drafted? I was drafted S1 and signed a 3 year contract.

Clegane maybe. But not Winchester.

Fixed. Obviously because I had mentioned you as Clegane's teammate , your name got stuck in my head. Thank you for picking that out though.

No worries. I'd be concerned as any team looking to pickup Clegane though, he's not very interested in changing allegiances.
