The Donut Hole
Week 3 & 4 Recap

Welcome to The Donut Hole where we review what has been happening in the DSFL. Today we will be reviewing Week 3 & 4 of the DSFL as they were both played one after the other (games played vs bot teams will be reviewed unlike last article).

Week 3

Luchadores vs Coyotes

The Luchadores were the heavy favorites to win this game because of the stellar duo of McCann and Forty-Two while also having the speed machine Ducky Donut. However, the Coyotes have Jay Longshaw, the number 1 QB on my power rankings so if their passing offense was able to push through the strong Luchadores defense they have a small chance. This did not seem to help the Coyotes in the slightest because they did not score any points at all. The Coyotes defense was not able to help either because they let up 15 points in the 1st quarter alone. However, Longshaw was able to rally his team and they were able to turn the game around. They were able to score a 23 yard field goal off of the amazing leg of Locatelli and they scored a touchdown off of a 5 yard pass to Lovote. Also, their defense stepped up and didn’t let the Luchadores score at all. The rest of the game was pretty irrelevant when it comes down to the final result. Nobody scored any points after the second half began. Although the Coyotes lost, Longshaw ended up with more passing yards than McCann.

Final Score: Luchadores 15 - 10 Coyotes
MVP: Ducky Donut | 31 Att, 163 Yds

Seawolves vs Pythons

The Pythons were expected to win this game because they are the best team in the league and the Seawolves didn’t do very well against another user team. Also, their QB Bstarr isn’t as good as the Pythons QB Franklin Armstrong. However, despite these predictions the Seawolves came out with an early lead in the 1st quarter. They were pounding on the Pythons Stranglehold with their run game. After about five minutes went by with the Seawolves abusing the run they scored a touchdown. When the 2nd quarter began they didn’t give up but the Stranglehold would not let Seawolves score a touchdown so they had to settle for a 40 yard field goal. The Pythons however, were able to score their first touchdown off of an 11 yard run from Rkansaw. I’m not sure what happened during half time but it feels like the Seawolves completely lost interest in the game. Their defense left up 2 touchdowns and did not score at all (Kicky Bobby missed one of the PATs). In the 4th quarter they completely gave up and gave up 2 touchdowns again. Maybe they hoped to win their game in week 4 and did not care about this one? Somehow the Pythons were able to score 27 points while allowing no points.

Final Score: Pythons 34 - 10 Seawolves
MVP: Hugh Mongo | 6 Rec, 89 Yds, 1 TD

Marshals vs Solar Bears

Personally I had the Solar Bears winning. It might be because I played for them or it might be the fact that they have one of the best passing offenses in the league. Their passing attack did not live up to everyone’s expectations. The Marshalls defense didn’t let the Solar Bears get a touchdown during the 1st quarter but they did give up a 47 yard field goal. Something snapped in the Marshals after the Solar Bears got that field goal because they went on to score 17 points in 9 minutes. This all happened in the first quarter alone. The fire within the Marshalls didn’t die down because during the second quarter they scored 13 points while not allowing the Solar Bears to score at all. The running back duo of Dallas and Owens was taking control of the game and it seemed that they could not be stopped. This assumption was wrong, because the Solar Bears answered back with 13 points of their own. The 3rd quarter was the Solar Bears highest scoring quarter. It was also the last quarter they scored in. The Marshalls sealed the game off of a 2 yard run from Owens.

Final Score: Marshals 37 - 20 Solar Bears
MVP: Deejay Dallas | 22 Att, 107 Yds

Week 4

Luchadores vs Marshals

This game was a rematch of the first game of the season and the Marshals wanted revenge for both their week 1 loss and for when Dugan painted their gym. The Luchadores showed no mercy whatsoever and they completely pummeled the Marshals. It was a complete blood bath and the Marshal fans were very disappointed. During the first quarter the Luchadores had the Marshals completely outsmarted. They scored 14 unmatched points and didn’t even let the Marshals into field goal range. After 1 minute past in the 2nd quarter the Marshals were finally able to score a 30 yard field goal. The Luchadores decided to cool down a little and only scored 2 field goals which is still a solid 6 points. After the halftime break the Luchadores decided to turn up the heat and scored 10 points and they got both a sack and an interception on the defensive side. This helped them keep the Marshals scoreless during the 3rd quarter. When the 4th quarter began the Marshals were determined to score some points. With about 9:30 minutes left in the 4th quarter Ruckerburg was finally able to give the Marshals some more points. However, the Luchadores wanted a little more to top of this win vs one of their top rivals. They were able to score 10 more points to top of one of the biggest blowouts of the season.

Final Score: Luchadores 40 - 6 Marshals
MVP: Jordan Andrews | 5 Tck, 2 Ints

Coyotes vs Solar Bears

I expected the Coyotes to win this game because the Coyotes beat the Seawolves and the Seawolves beat the Solar Bears. Also, the Coyotes have the number 1 QB on my power rankings list so that should definitely give them an edge. Bad luck began to set in for the Coyotes. It all began with a miscommunication between Longshaw and McMorris because Longshaw threw an interception intended for McMorris. It would only get worse from here. Although they scored a field goal, they let up a touchdown which gave the Solar Bears the lead. They still scored a touchdown in the second quarter but so did the Solar Bears. Essentially the 2nd quarter didn't matter at the end of the day. In the 3rd quarter the Solar Bears decided to run away with the game. They scored 14 unmatched points. One of the touchdowns was an 8 yard pass while the other was a pick six. Although most people thought the game was over at this point the Coyotes would not give up and would not admit defeat. They hit a 41 yard field goal after 1 minute passed in the 4th and they got a touchdown after about 5 minutes passed. They kept trying to get a touchdown so they would have a chance to tie the game but the Solar Bears would not slip. They held onto their lead and won the game

Final Score: Solar Bears 28 - 20 Coyotes
MVP: Buddha Lebowski | 10 Tck, 1 Sck, 1 FR

Pythons vs Seawolves

Haven’t we seen this before? This is the exact same matchup as last week and the Seawolves were looking for some vengeance. They attacked early in the 1st quarter by getting a 28 yard field goal. Late into the first they also got a touchdown off of a 2 yard run from Bstarr. This made the lead 10 - 0 in favor of the Seawolves which didn’t look good for the Pythons. In the second quarter the Pythons were able to put points on the board off of a beautiful pass from Armstrong into the hands of Strike. However, the Seawolves accept going scoreless in the 2nd and that did not happen. They were able to score another field goal but this time from 56 yards away. Going into the halftime break the Pythons knew that they would need to take control in this game if they wanted to win. The Stranglehold started playing phenomenally once the break ended. In the 3rd quarter they wouldn’t even let the Seawolves into field goal range. That meant that it was time for the offense to step up. They weren’t able to score a touchdown but they were able to get in field goal range. Bobby was able to hit a 26 yard field goal to lower the lead by 3. Once the 4th quarter started the Pythons knew that they had to go big or go home. With about 8:40 remaining in the quarter cornerback Mervin Leonard was able to intercept a pass and get a 57 yard pick six. This made the score 17 - 13 in favor of the Pythons. The Seawolves were getting desperate and they decided to run the ball. With 7 minutes left in the quarter a run by Bstarr was cut short when Adok came in with a big hit and forced a fumble. Sprinkles was able to pick the ball up which ultimately led to the Pythons victory. The Pythons still had some energy in them and they were doing all they could for one final touchdown. Then a 20 yard pass from Armstrong to Donut resulted in a touchdown which you could say was the cherry on top.

Final Score: Pythons 24 - Seawolves 13
MVP: Mervin Leonard | 4 Tck, 1 Int, 1 Def TD
