San Jose Roster Shake-up - ckroyal92 - 06-26-2017

The last week has been quite the whirlwind of events in northern California. The season seemed to be slipping away from the SaberCats, partly due to the struggles of franchise quarterback Jameis Christ. Rumors began to swirl about a possible roster shake-up, but few expected what came next. San Jose went out shopping for Christ's potential successor. After a brief negotiation with Shaka, Orange County's GM, the SaberCats had found their guy. They acquired quarterback Ethan Hunt from the Otters in exchange for defensive tackle Bert Metas.

GM Cory Knouse had this to say on the move: "Bert's a great guy & everyone loves him around the locker room, Hunt's a guy we really wanted & this felt like the right time to go get him".

After this surprise deal, many wondered what would come next. Would San Jose tear it all down & go into full rebuild mode or would they try to retool & move forward with the pieces they already had in place? Little did they realize how quickly these questions would be answered.

On the eve of their week 9 contest vs. Colorado, came the most shocking news yet. Defensive end Sensabaughdy Leafer (what a name huh?) announced he would be retiring from the NSFL at the end of the season. Now that's 2 defensive lineman the Cats wouldn't have moving forward. How would they counter this stunning development?

At this point, Knouse knew he had to get a bit more aggressive, so he went looking to the waiver wire & plucked 2 promising names off the board. First was linebacker Jupiter Oaks. "We expect him to step in right away & take Bert's spot in our linebacking corps. Maybe a few snaps here & there to spell Leafer on the line" said Knouse. Second was Chidubem Okonkwo, a larger, more physical defensive end. "He'll slot in as a backup for all four D-line spots to keep everyone fresh".

Just like that, they covered what they feared could be holes in their depth chart. The only question now is, "Where do they go when this season's over?". Guess we'll just have to wait & see where they go from here.

"Where do they go when this season's over?"
Gonna take a wild guess and say to the #1 pick in the S2 draft.
