*S17 RB Rankings - Week 11 - SwagSloth - 09-14-2019

Honorable Mention - Aksel Danielsson CHI @JSS
748 Rushing Yards (4.5 YPC), 7 Rushing TDs
6 catches for 74 Receiving Yards, 1 Receiving TD

Previous Rank: Unranked (Rise)

Honorable Mention - Marquise Brown PHI @YoungTB
805 Rushing Yards (4.1 YPC), 5 Rushing TDs
31 catches for 188 Receiving Yards, 1 Receiving TD

Previous Rank: Honorable Mention (No Change)

Honorable Mention - Terry Taffy COL @KingCollins
966 Rushing Yards (3.9 YPC), 4 Rushing TDs
24 catches for 145 Receiving Yards, 2 Receiving TDs

Previous Rank: #9 (Fall)

#10 - Tyler Swift NOLA @`BayleyIsland`
491 Rushing Yards (4.3 YPC), 4 Rushing TD
46 catches for 604 Receiving Yards, 1 Receiving TD

After making a brief appearance inside the top 10 following week 1, Swift fell into the Honorable Mention category and was forced to fight to keep himself in the conversation. Swift continued to contribute on the ground, but he was particularly effective as a receiver, adding 29 catches for 438 yards over 6 weeks. He also managed to add 4 touchdowns. A solid performance that has rewarded him with a small yet long overdue step up in the rankings.
Previous Rank: Honorable Mention (Rise)

#9 - Morgan Marshall :wraiths @Baron1898
702 Rushing Yards (4.2 YPC), 8 Rushing TDs
46 catches for 257 Receiving Yards, 2 Receiving TD

Marshall continues to thrive on his ability to find the end zone. Over the past 5 weeks, he only found the end zone 3 times, which might seem to be a drop off compared to his first 5 weeks, but his combined Touchdowns still rival many of the top RBs in the league. Even though he finds himself on a pass-heavy team, but he has nonetheless managed to keep himself involved in the receiving game while leading the charge as the Wraiths’ primary rusher. He took a small step back this week, but he’s held a consistent spot in the rankings and will likely hold onto his place in the top 10 to finish the season.
Previous Rank: #8 (Fall)

#8 - Ashley Owens AUS @run_CMC
632 Rushing Yards (4.0 YPC), 4 Rushing TDs
68 catches for 545 Receiving Yards, 2 Receiving TDs

Ashley Owens has established himself as a proper hybrid back, putting together almost as many yards through the air as he does on the ground. The primary knock against him early in the season was his inability to reach the end zone, but he managed to score 4 Touchdowns over the last 6 weeks, upping his production in that department significantly. The competition this season has been fierce, but Owens is proving that he belongs in the NSFL.
Previous Rank: #10 (Rise)

#7 - Dorfus Jimbo BAL @ScorpXCracker
1068 Rushing Yards (4.8 YPC), 1 Rushing TD
29 catches for 220 Receiving Yards, 0 Receiving TDs

The tale of Dorfus Jimbo turns out to be a cautionary one as he falls outside of the top 5 for the first time this season after climbing to the top of the list in week 3. Dorfus is a force to be reckoned with on the ground and he’s even found some usage in the passing game, averaging almost 3 catches every week. However, he continued to be plagued by a lack of production in the end zone. He managed to finally break his drought and score a rushing Touchdown, but after 11 weeks, he is the only RB on this list with just a single score. There’s no doubt that Dorfus is a talented rusher, but with the Hawks focusing so heavily on the passing attack, his inability to mesh with their receiving core has capped his upside.
Previous Rank: #4 (Fall)

# 6 - Mako Mendonca AUS @Mooty99
689 Rushing Yards (4.3 YPC), 4 Rushing TDs
56 catches for 552 Receiving Yards, 4 Receiving TDs

After a slow start in week 1, Mendonca has steadily carved out a spot for himself on this list, currently holding steady to the #6 spot and finding himself just on the verge of possibly cracking the top 5. Like fellow Copperheads RB Ashley Owens, Mendonca is a versatile back that finds himself splitting time between the receiving core and the rushing attack. He leads the team in yards by a narrow margin, but it’s clear he’s found himself in a committee. Still, he’s kept pace with the #1 overall draft pick of the S17 class, who many expected to come in and take over the lead role. Mendonca has shown that he’s not willing to give up his job and he’s elevated his status in the process.
Previous Rank: #6 (No Change)

#5 - Forrest Gump NOLA @TomHanks
903 Rushing Yards (4.0 YPC), 10 Rushing TDs
42 catches for 363 Receiving Yards, 0 Receiving TDs

Despite falling down the list, Gump has been impressive over the last 6 weks, adding 519 yards on the ground and an additional 122 yards in the air. If anything, he’s proven to be a victim of the stiff competition among RBs this season. He’s held on tight to a top 5 spot all season, but he’ll need to finish the season on a strong note if he hopes to hold off names like Jimbo and Mendonca.
Previous Rank: #3 (Fall)

#4 - Jerrod Canton YKW @Sweetwater
220 Rushing Yards (3.8 YPC), 0 Rushing TDs
70 catches for Receiving 1093 Yards, 11 Receiving TDs

Jerod Canton is the type of RB that tends to be overlooked in traditional rankings. Some might argue he’s barely a RB at all, gaining 83% of his yards as a receiver. Not to mention that he’s yet to score a rushing Touchdown. However, Canton has managed to find a clear role in an offense that is eager to throw the ball and it’s hard to fault him for adapting to the scheme he’s been in placed in. He currently holds the most receiving yards of any RB and the most receiving Touchdowns of any player, RB or otherwise. Canton’s inclusion here will be a controversial one and many can argue that he might be better suited to make the switch to WR, but even as a part-time rusher, he’s part of the list.
Previous Rank: #7 (Rise)

#2 - Sam Torensen CHI @Jonny2x (TIE)
1222 Rushing Yards (4.4 YPC), 10 Rushing TDs
9 catches for 92 Receiving Yards, 0 Receiving TDs

This is only the second tie this season and it’s the first one to happen this high up the list; however, given how closely the #2 and #3 players scored according to our ranking algorithm, it would be unfair to suggest that one truly placed above the other. Torensen continues to be the league’s top pure rusher, holding claim to the most total yards on the ground and the most total yards from scrimmage, barely etching out Jerrod Canton by a single yard. He’s coming off a hot S16 season and has proven that it was far from a fluke by putting together another impression season. With two seasons of this caliber already accomplished so early in his career, it’s frightening to think what this young man will be capable of in the seasons to come.
Previous Rank: #5 (Rise)

#2 - Apollo Reed OCO @NylarthePhoenix (TIE)
1070 Rushing Yards (4.3 YPC), 10 Rushing TDs
27 catches for 166 Receiving Yards, 4 Receiving TDs

Reed steps down out of the top spot, but still continues to impress, especially in the scoring department; he currently holds the most combined Touchdowns of any RB with 14. That’s an average of almost 4 Touchdowns every 3 games. Some might think that to be unsustainable, but Reed has managed to keep that productivity up for almost the entire season. He also finds himself as one of only 3 RBs to break the 1000 rushing yard mark so far this season. He has consistently found himself in the top 2 since week 3 and looks primed to finish the season at #1 or #2 overall.
Previous Rank: #1 (Fall)

#1 - Slim Shady ARI @J.G.10
938 Rushing Yards (4.9 YPC), 10 Rushing TDs
49 catches for 365 Receiving Yards, 1 Receiving TD

At first glance, it might be hard to see why Slim Shady stands out above the rest of the pack. His productivity as a rusher and a Touchdown machine are obvious, but it’s easy to get lost in the mix given the quality of players he finds himself up against. Where Shady truly shines is his efficiency, currently possessing the highest average YPC of any rusher in the league. In fact, his only close competition in that area has been Dorfus Jimbo, an exceptional player plagued by a lack of Touchdowns, something that, fortunately for Shady, doesn’t seem to be an issue for him. He started the season off at #1 and fell back to #2 in weeks 3 and 5,but now climbs back to the top of the list. It will be interesting to see if he can close the season on top, but with Apollo Reed and Sam Torensen on his tail, it won’t be easy.
