*S19 TE Week 1 Performances - Starboy - 12-04-2019

Welcome everyone to the start of a brand new season that is filled with the most wonderful air of Christmas. This season of giving will be bringing a special look at the lowly offensive position, tight end and their weekly performances and top players. This position is usually a bit in limbo compared to the other spots on offense due to the multi-use these players have as an extension of the offensive line and the receiving game yet these players all seem to be doing a fine job at both.

Unfortunately this week the tight end position saw little use more than just that extension of the receiving game with only one true tight end getting over fifty receiving yards (two if you count flexback Johnny Blaze). None at the position scored this week in some fairly exciting games and none of the Arizona tight ends scored in the brutal massacre of San Jose. Here is you more in depth look at each player:

Jammerson Irving ARI

5 Rec, 55 Rec YDs (19 Long), 0 TD

Irving has always been a top target in the Outlaws' receiving core that has solid hands. The success of Irving should not be a surprise to anyone when he builds off of this top week one performance. Jammerson is currently the second highest TPE tight end as of week 1, sitting at 800 TPE as I write this, and should be able to swing that around the entire length of S19. Wouldn't be surprised to keep seeing him around the top performers in the league.

Johnny Blaze OCO

6 Rec, 67 Rec YDs (19 Long), 0 TD

While I have my own personal gripes with including flexback TEs in with the regular TEs, others seem fine with including these players. But regardless, Johnny Blaze takes his S18 TE of the Year award and shows off his capability to get the ball moving. The Otters have always used Blaze in a fascinating way that always makes him hard to stop. The game changing ability he brings is always there even in a less than stellar game such as this. Either way he was a top performer and probably will not be a stranger to this spot.

Cameron Olsen SJS

3 Rec, 45 Rec YDs (18 Long), 0 TD

Just shy of the top spot is possibly the best player on the SaberCats, Cameron Olsen. The growing veteran has always been a stud in the San Jose game even if San Jose is not the team it once was. Olsen can easily be the best tight end week in and week out if he was not plagued with an offense crumbling around him. Expect better games from Olsen in the future, but for now he rests just on the bubble of the top spot.

Declan Harp CHI

5 Rec, 34 YDs (12 Long), 0 TD

A solid performance in a defensive battle, Harp is another fair consistent tight end that has managed to remain toward the top performance wise. The unfortunate side effect of being a top player is that in a game where defense reigns, your numbers don't shine as well. There is still plenty of time for Harp to stick around the bubble of the top and we can all sit back and watch as this Butchers weapon chops up the middle of the field.

Austin McCormick ® NOLA

3 Rec, 33 Rec YDs (22 Long), 0 TD

The San Antonio Marshals rookie really got things going for the Secondline in his first game. He may not have had the most spectacular opening, but a twenty-two yard burst in your first game in the big leagues shows great big play potential for the rookie. McCormick has a chance at becoming one of the featured tight ends above him that really show off each week with something special. There are great things to be excited about off of just three catches and there can be a lot of areas of growth for big games.

Verso L'Alto BAL

3 Rec, 26 Rec YDs (15 Long), 0 TD

On the other side of the 17-10 defensive battle was another top reliable target. L'Alto, besides being one of the most interesting names amongst the colorful tight end cast, made something with just the three catches he had in the game which helped pushed him into this spot over his competitors. There is a lot to work with still, of course, but later in this list we have the next Hawks tight end that could be taking over from this twelve season veteran.

Peter Larson AUS

6 Rec, 28 Rec YDs (6 Long), 0 TD

Larson is such an interesting piece of the dark orange pie that is the Austin Copperheads. His ability to get a high volume of catches has helped out the team in some important situations which is sometimes and underrated talent that tight ends have. The talent of the tight end comes from turning those high volume games into high output and Larson was able to get at least a fraction of the way there. There is still a long season ahead that might help Larson step his game up from the middle of the pack.

Oof. TE gang did not have a good week 1! Here is to hoping for a much improved week 2 with scoring for all and a little less massacring of SJS.
