*Chip Otle Introduction - mcast55 - 01-16-2020

Chip Otle was born in a small New York town, with two brothers, one older and one younger. Growing up Chip Otle would always attended his older brothers football games and try to emulate the players on the field. After years of going to his brothers game he would become a water boy and be at every practice. From a young age Chop Otle was mentored by the players and coaches which would play a key role in his development later on in his football career. Football has always been something Chip otle wanted to do as a career. He would attend Giant games with his dad where he met many of his heroes and even gathered a rather impressive autograph collection. When Chip Otle was in Middle School his parents really saw the potential with Chip Otle in his football career. He was already bigger than most kids in his school’s league, and with help from his brother who also was a defensive end he learned movies that kids his age were not able to defend. Chip Otle later followed in his older brothers footsteps and went on to attend St. Anthony’s High School where his brother was a senior at the time. Together Chip Otle and his brother would help lead the St. Anthonys defense to a league championship and later a New York state title. With his brother graduating it was time for Chip Otle to take the lead of the defense and really show off his potential. Chip Otle would lead the St. Anthony’s team to a second straight New York title in his Sophomore campaign while also earning All New York Defensive team for the second straight year. This put him on some of the top colleges radar. During the offseason he got calls from Alabama, Ohio State, Florida, Michigan, and Penn State. Shortly after the football season Chip Otle was in a terrible accident where he broke his right leg in three spots while also tear both his labrum and rotator cuff. It was a big blow for Chip Otle as he would be out for about 10 months. Chip Otle was determined to get back on the football field to further enhance his abilities. After nine months of rehab Chip was back on the field after only missing 3 games his Junior year. Chip did not miss a beat after being out for so long, he stepped in and had one of his best games in his High School career. He recorded 5 sacks and also forced a fumble. This was only the beginning of an incredible year for Chip. Chip would go on to lead all of New York in sacks even after missing three games. Chip set the record at St. Anthonys for sacks in a year, and was pulling closer to the all time record which was held by his brother. This allowed the St. Anthony’s team to win yet another State title, and bring home another all defensive award for Chip. That summer Chip made one of the biggest decisions of his life. He committed to his dream school Michigan where he would look to bring his powerful pass rush to the Wolverines and help them end their title drought. Even though Chip was already committed to one of the top football programs in the country, he did not stop working to get better. Chip would go on to break his brothers record for most sacks in his High School career.

While Chip Otle life was always revolving around football, he was also very active around his community. Chip Otle was a member of the local fire station, as well as in his High School club called Habitat for Humanity. During his time in Habitat for Humanity Chip spent time in various countries such as Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Africa, and India. While at these various countries, Chip would help the communities by building Homes, providing meals and water as well as showing the community the sport of American Football. Chip Otle’s favorite trip was when he was in the Dominican Republic. While there, Chip Otle was shown how to play baseball, and even showed the kids how to play American Football.
Chip Otle spent three years playing football at Michigan. Under Jim he was a five star recruit who was ready to make an impact day one, but his Freshman year he made little impact as he wasn’t a starter until week 5. From that point on Chip Otle solidified himself as a staple in the Michigan defense. Chip Otle would make his first big impact in his college career when he helped Michigan beat Ohio State in the Big 10 Championship. While the Wolverines won the conference title they found themselves on the outside of the final four playoffs team. His Sophomore year Chip Otle did not miss a single game during the year and lead the Big 10 in sacks on the year. Chip Otle help lead Michigan to the best defense in NCAA, as well as help them win back to back Big 10 championships, which was the first time since 2003 and 2004 that they won back to back 10 championship. Michigan would finish the year 12-0 and find themselves with the 1 seed in the playoffs. Michigan would faces the LSU tigers in the semi-finals and would win that game behind Chip Otles 2 sacks and 7 tackles. Michigan would fall short of their goal losing to Clemson in the National Championship. Chip and the rest of his Wolverines were ready to rebound and compete again for the National Championship. Chip Otles junior year was his best collegiate career and help solidify him for the DSFL draft. Chip Otle would break the Michigan record for sacks in a year and again would lead Michigan to a third straight Big 10 Championships which was the first time they have won three straight since they won five straight from 1988 to 1992. Again Michigan found themselves in the top 4 and would win their semi-final game, they would take on LSU for the National Championship. Michigan got off to a hot start going up 14-0 but an injury to Chip Otle in the second quarter that would require Chip Otle to miss the remaining of the game. From there LSU would go on to blow out the Wolverines to win the National Championship.

The injury to Chip Otle would hurt his draft stock with concern of his injury history. Chip Otle would end up getting drafted by the Kansas City Coyotes in the 6th round 31st overall.
