*A New Prospect From Up North - Dustao - 02-17-2020

Johnnie McCartney is your typical prairie boy, quietly unassuming, keeps to himself, always the first one to lend a hand and have your back. He grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of a small Alberta town, just out of the way enough that most folks never noticed it. As a youngster he learned early on that he had a special gift for sports, one that could take him farther than he could ever imagine.

As he grew up he found out that the one thing he was drawn to more than anything else was playing football. He never wanted to be the center of attention, only to be there to help the team as much as he could. This mentality pushed him to a defensive position, and he quickly started to show promise as a budding defensive back. He grew up watching the stars of the game at lockdown corner and safety, and admiring their skillset but was always wanting to be more of am dual threat player, one that could play with his hands but also get physical if need be.

Through his highschool years he started leaning more and more to linebacker, someone who could change the game by reading the quarterback and making adjustments, as well as getting into a position to stop whatever play the opposing offense drew up. His team went all the way to the finals in his senior year, but came up just short by a score in the big game. This motivated him more than ever. He would have to be the difference maker, someone who could put the defense on his back and be a great leader.

He was offered positions at a couple of different colleges, but ultimately settled on going to the hometown University of Alberta, so he could still be around to lend a hand to his family farm if they needed him. His college years taught him well, he learned how to work in a more complicated system and recognize shifts and motions that no one in the highschool game had ever dreamed of.

He was ready to take the next step and bring his talents to a league that would challenge him to his limits, and made the move to declare himself eligible for the DSFL. The next chapter awaits, and he is flush with anticipation for what is to come...
