Losing is hard. Really hard. Getting into the Ultimus Championship is wonderful, and the ride is amazing, but it is all wiped away if you can’t finish the job. This was nothing new up in Yellowknife. Each season, the players were hopeful, ready to attack as soon as that kickoff left the ground. But just like last season, we came up short. Last season, the team that drafted me lost to Orange County. This season it was Austin that did us in.
It hurts, y’all. It really fucking hurts. We worked hard all season to secure home field advantage. Again. We had it last year too. Yet here we are again, looking back on an Ultimus defeat, not able to finish the damn job.
You want an inside look at our locker room after the game? It’s as you would guess, a potent cocktail composed of anger and sadness. We had our heads in our hands. It was over, and we were on the short end of the stick once again.
I can’t even say my rookie season had a bunch of highs and lows. It was mostly highs. Going out there and winning is an amazing feeling. Having the best record in the league felt like we were on the top of the world. Sitting on our perch, until it came crashing down in front of the Yellowknife faithful just as history would write it. Why wouldn’t we lose another game at home? It seems as if that’s all we are destined to do.
I can’t take losing like this. I wasn’t born to lose important games and just fall apart like this. If we are stuck in some boundless curse that prevents us from ever finishing the job, then I can’t stay here. Yellowknife isn’t for me, then. I’ll find a new home. What the future may bring, I have no idea. Is it here? Is it somewhere else? Only time will tell.
Fortunately, I don’t believe in curses. That’s why I’m continuing to combine forces with my faithful teammates, and we are equipped with a brand new determination. History seems to want to write the Wraiths in for another loss. That’s it, that’s the end for us.
But fuck that. I write my own destiny.
