Alexander Hamilton II - Scouting Report

Introduction:
This is the first of several scouting reports that I’ll be writing on this upcoming DSFL draft class of CBs. Considering that they are a deciding factor on whether or not an offense will torch you in the passing game, Cornerbacks are an important position that every DSFL GM should be looking for on their draft board. This series of reports will be written so that DSFL GMs won’t need to look far to determine which of the CBs in the upcoming draft class will fit their needs best. Now, without further ado, here is my scouting report on the CB out of Princeton, Alexander Hamilton II.

Strengths and Weaknesses:
Now, DSFL GMs that do a quick skim of Hamilton’s profile might say that there isn’t much that stands out from the typical Man to Man CB. He has average agility, meaning that his turning won’t be very sharp when it comes to trying to close off a WR running a route, below-average strength for a CB (in general, not for his archetype), meaning that he’ll have a very hard time keeping up with TEs that can outmuscle him in press coverage, average intelligence, which will allow speedy, agile WRs to burn him easily with a well-placed route juke on his blind spot, average tackling, which will make it easy for power backs to plow through him, and will make teams have to rely on a Free Safety with good tackling as a last line of defense, below-average hands, meaning that red zone threat WRs and TEs won’t have much trouble holding on to contested catches thrown their way when lined up against him. However, despite all these flaws, there are two attributes of Hamilton’s that stand out the most. One being his above-average endurance, meaning that he won’t need to be benched for fatigue often, and his insane speed, which almost makes up for all of his weaknesses. This means that if he’s burned on a route, he can easily come back and force an incompletion to make up for his mistake if the QB decides to throw in his direction. If he’s forced to tackle, he can still make an effort to slow down a ball-carrier until the clean-up crew (Safeties) come to lay down a hard hit to potentially force a fumble. His speed won’t make up for his hands or his strength, but it’ll do a lot to make up for everything else. He likely won’t have a ton of interceptions, but his pass deflections are sure to be off the charts. A bit of a warning, though. Do NOT match him up in the red zone against a WR or TE named Aaron Burr. It will not end well.

Pro Comparison:

A good comparison for Alexander Hamilton II would be Donte Jackson, a former CB that played for the Carolina Panthers. Both Hamilton and Jackson have very high straight line speed, but are susceptible to being burned by crafty WRs matched up against with, leading to them having to be occasionally bailed out by a lurking Safety. However, Donte Jackson is what I would consider to be Hamilton’s floor, and if he improves instinctively, he’ll be able to maybe reach his ceiling, which I would consider to be Deion Sanders, but with (hopefully) better tackling.

Extras:
- Good Work Ethic
- Very knowledgeable on a wealth of topics, most notably being economics and politics
- Right-Handed
- 6’3”, which is very tall for a CB
- On the heavier side at 205 lbs, which makes his lack of strength confusing
- Dual sport athlete, plays baseball professionally on top of his budding football career, another parallel with Deion Sanders

Conclusion:
Overall, Hamilton is a CB with a low floor, but with a very high ceiling. If he’s drafted to a franchise with a good defensive backs coach that can allow him to grow and reach his potential, then it’ll make whatever pick he’s chosen with successful. Analysts should keep him on a list for NSFL rookies that are poised for a breakout season, but I personally don’t believe that he’ll be in the running for the DROY award in the DSFL. His second season should be the one to watch, considering that he undergoes development during his year in the DSFL. I’d advise GMs to pick him in the second round, provided he doesn’t fall to the third, but if they’d like to take a chance on him, to pick him in the late first round. Alexander Hamilton II is a very safe choice for a CB that can fit in well in a Man to Man scheme.
