Summary:

Cadilac Harris is a 20 years old product of the University of South Carolina Trojans. Harris came into the Trojans program and immediately became a freshman starter, something of a rarity for that program, and in that position.

He struggled in his first year for the program and put up less than average numbers for the role that he was playing. However, his second year was much improved, likely due to some heavy work put in during the offseason. His third and final year at USC was a defensive spectacle and resulted in multiple awards for Harris.

On the field, Harris uses his speed to get to the ball faster than receivers and tends to rely on poor play to make big plays (interceptions, returns, etc). However, he is not the most agile or creative cornerback. Expect receivers with a head atop of them to beat him bad, and often. This also results in a lack of defensive scores. Despite having 16 picks, Harris only had 2 defensive scores. Something that was not just a result of poor blocking.

Harris will have a difficult time transitioning to the DSFL if drafted by a team he will have to compete for a starting role on. Unfortunately, his talent does not lead me to believe that he will be an immediate starter in the league unless drafted by a team that is defensively struggling.

However, I believe that he will spend multiple years in the DSFL and is coachable. He will not be ready for the NSFL in two years, much less one. It would be a mistake to draft him higher than a low-mid round, but he has a high upside.

Player Comparison: Darius Slay –

I can see Cadilac Harris having a very similar career progression to Darius Slay. A speedback, Slay struggled coming into the pros, much like Harris will. Over time though, Slay developed into one of the top shutdown corners in the league. Harris too will have that opportunity. But it will take time.

The two also share a similar ball hawk mentality, while struggling to see it through. Harris will struggle with big plays in his career but won’t struggle getting to the play. Expect him to always be around the end of the play, but don’t expect him to be the end of a drive. Much like Slay, repeated targeting Harris will eventually wear him down without having devastating effects.

However, over time, I believe that Harris will give enough reason to quarterbacks not to test him too many times. He can be great, but I don’t ever thing that he will ever be the Great. Teams were wise to wait to pick up Slay, and they will be wise to wait and pick up Harris.
