*Letter to Fellow Rookie Safeties - J0EB - 03-09-2020

My Fellow Rookie Safeties,

Thank you. All 25 of you. Drafted 14th overall, I am both incredibly proud and happy with where I am and the opportunity I’ve been given. Norfolk has been incredibly welcoming and friendly. The Locker Room is so much fun to be a part of, and I hope that each one of you is having a similarly good experience with your new team. While I may have been the third safety off the board, I know that this is no time to gloat. I had my night of celebration, now it’s time to get back to work. I know that each safety drafted this season has great talent and will be tough competition. If I don’t keep up my constant practice and training then I’ll be left behind.

While I wish everyone luck with their new teams, from this moment on we are rivals. This is the start of a competition to see who can be the best Safety in the league, and who will lead their team to an Ultimini Championship. I am a Seawolf now, and it’s my duty to guard the bay. On top of that, I need to stand out as I prepare for the NSFL Draft. I won’t stop improving and I don’t expect any of you to stop either.

While I’ve addressed my fellow safeties as a whole, I would like to address a few of you individually.

Johnny Hellzapoppin
First safety off the board going to Myrtle Beach at number 7. You’re a good guy, but you’re also naturally my biggest rival. Myrtle Beach was admittedly high on my list of potential destinations, but I understand why they would pick you over me, and I’m actually glad that they did because I couldn’t be happier than I am here in Norfolk. But nonetheless, my eyes are set on you Johnny. You’re a hurdle laid out in my path of becoming the best, and I’m not afraid to leap right over you.

Buck Thorton
At pick number 8, going to Minnesota, I haven’t had the chance to talk with you much, but I have read some of your media. You write pretty good stuff and it shows that you put good effort into your articles. You’re gonna make an impact on any team. That being said, I also need to watch out for you so that you don’t sneak away from me.

Finally,
Wesley Erikson
It’s been a pleasure meeting you Wes. We’ve been able to talk a lot together in the locker room and you’re an awesome guy. I look forward to playing side by side with you. We’re gonna grow and improve together and I’m glad to have you with me in the secondary. We’ve got an important role to play in Norfolk, so let’s get to work.

May all opposition lose to Norfolk,
Matt “Son of Havoc” Cross
