*Tijuana Luchadores - Quarterbacks of the Defense - devaunte - 03-14-2020
It is widely considered that a QB is essential to any team's success. And this is true. Very rarely can a team reach the promised land without a heralded signal caller for their offense. However, there's more than just offense in a football game. That begs the question, what, or rather who, is the quarterback of the defense? The answer is quite simple, and yet complex. Unlike the offense which funnels all movement around the football which always touches the quarterback's hands, a defense must adjust as individuals, and be reactive as opposed to being proactive. There is too much occurring all at once for a single player to coordinate every player on a defense. Enter, the linebacking corp. Linebackers are often the most versatile players on the field, especially in 3-4 defenses.
This offseason, the Tijuana Luchadores saw it fit to address a pressing area of need. They had some question marks among their LBs. 2nd year LB Ugarth was a certified stud, already a high quality starter and an active user. However, outside of him, there was a lot of questions. So, with the 45th and 48th overall picks, the Luchadores selected Devaunte Sackpieder @devaunte and George Fisher @AL_GRINGO to be their OLBs. Both Devaunte and George show great promise as edge rushers, with Fisher already boasting over 80 speed and tallying 13 tackles to start the year, and Devaunte started the season with 8 tackles, a sack, INT, and pass defense, just showing off that versatility as mentioned before. However, a member of this draft that should not be forgotten is Nat Wright @nated4444, pick 260. He's been a pleasant surprise, being fairly active among the Luchadore locker room, and also tallying a FF for the Luchadores in the first 2 weeks and 8 tackles. His specialty at being a rangy coverage linebacker fits right alongside Ugarth in the middle of this defense.
All 4 of these players combine to be a leading force of the Tijuana Wall, and are expected to be leading contributors on this team in their pursuit to be crowned Ultimini Champions.
