16 Game season - Kcobb9 - 07-13-2017
I know for season 2 with the expansion teams we will be adding a 15th game to the schedule, but as someone who's always been oddly obsessed with sports scheduling, I can say that having 16 games would be more fair. The S2 schedule, as far as I can guess, will have each team play each other twice, and have a 3rd game against a single conference rival. The problem with this is that not every team will have equal home games, and as far as football is concerned, that's very important. The easiest solution to this problem would be to add a 16th game, or a 3rd game against another conference rival. That way each team will have 8 home games, and the conferences will still be most important because you'll play half of your season inside of it. Another nice thing about this schedule, is that you can take the NFL's method of scheduling and rotate which conference rivals you'll play a 3rd time. This is similar to what the NFL does with determining what division another division in a given conference will play. Even numbers in scheduling are important when you play such a low number of games, so this would make strength of schedule less important.
Pros:
• Equal Home/Away games for every team
• Easy scheduling for seasons in the future with rotating opponents
•Same length as NFL season
•16 games is easy to schedule for leagues with different amounts of teams (8,10,12,etc. teams)
Cons:
•Longer schedule will blow most records set in s1 away
•Longer schedule irl, meaning potentially less interest for those not starting

I imagine this will be dependent on the options in the sim. I don't think there's a custom schedule option, considering the 4 back-to-back games between the Hawks and Wraiths last season.
Even number of games makes sense to me though.

I would much rather the third game be a SOS game, where the NSFC Champ plays ASFC Champ and on down the line, expansion teams playing each other.

18 game regular season, all 8 teams make the playoffs
15 game regular season, 4 teams make the playoffs, top 2 from each division
There is a third option but its a 19 game regular season with 4 teams making it but we were not picking that.

Of those 3, this is the best. Any word on if the SOS game is doable? I really think it would help prevent imbalances of the random conference match up, and also makes us more like the NFL in a good way and promotes the any given Sunday feel.

I will double check to see if any of this is possible. But I do believe that a 16 game schedule can be done. Also custom schedules. But before I make claims I will check that out it in the next hour or so
EDIT: So far custom schedules are a go, just working on getting that 16 game schedule.

Does there really need to be 4 weeks of preseason? Couldn't we just cut that in half and add a 16th game? I just feel like if you want to keep interest high 4 meaningless games to start the year is maybe not the way to do it.
