*History of the NSFL- Retired Numbers #2 - Cheech65 - 05-06-2020

Over the course of the NSFL’s past 21 seasons players have set such a standard that, out of respect, no other may don their jersey number. There are currently 21 such retired numbers across 6 NSFL teams.

The Philadelphia Liberty have the second most retired numbers in their history, 5. PHI

Number 5- Tyler Oles

Tyler Oles began his career at the University of Maryland. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Liberty in the 2nd round, 12th overall. Initially playing as a cornerback, he made the transition to quarterback for S6. As the new leader of the team, he led the Liberty to their first Ultimus in S7, defeating the heavily favored Otters. He set the team record for Career Passing Yards and Season Passing Yards (14,290 and 5,073, respectively), as well as Career Passing Touchdowns (99) and Career Passer Rating (88.2). Oles retired after S8, shortly after which his number 5 was retired as well. In its first class, Oles was inducted into the Philadelphia Liberty’s Hall of Fame.

Number 42-Fox North

Fox North was a wide receiver out of Penn State when he was drafted 7th overall in the S2 Draft by the Philadelphia Liberty. He would have a legendary career with the Liberty, including the S7 Ultimus win over the Otters. North left the Liberty for the Yeti after S9, where his success continued, but his only Ultimus was with the Liberty. He currently sits at 6th all-time for Receptions (761), 6th all-time for Receiving Touchdowns (75), and 7th all-time for Receiving Yards (11,066). He was inducted into the Philadelphia Liberty Hall of Fame in its first class, upon which his number 42 was retired.

Number 3- Stephen Harris & Adriana Falconi

Stephen Harris and Adriana Falconi both donned the number 3 in their careers.

Stephen Harris started out at Notre Dame as kicker when he was drafted by the Baltimore Hawks in the S1 NSFL Draft. He joined the Liberty when they were founded in S2. From there he became a staple player for their special teams. He still holds the NSFL record for Annual Field Goals at 42 for S7 and attended 6 Pro-Bowls. Harris also sits at 2nd all-time for Annual Punting Yards with 5586 for S2, as well as 7th all-time for Career Field Goals with 187, and 6th all-time for Career Punting Yards with 34,308. By the time of his retirement after S8, he had won Kicker of the Year 3 times and Punter of the Year once.

Adriana Falconi was born in Sienna, Tuscany, Italy and attended Columbia University, where she played football. She was drafted at quarterback by the Tijuana Luchadores in S8 and played for 3 seasons in the DSFL, where she still sits on the all-time lists for Annual Passer Rating (2nd, 93.4 for S9), Annual Passing Touchdowns (5th, 19 for S9), Career Passer Rating (7th, 81.0), Career Passing Touchdowns (10th, 28), and Annual Pass Completion Percentage (5th, 63.33 for S9). For S9, Falconi was named the DSFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and Quarterback of the Year. She was drafted by the Philadelphia Liberty in S11, where she was named starter. By the time she retired after S19, she had accumulated 206 Touchdowns (4th all-time), 56.73% Pass Completion, 2,457 Pass Completions (4th all-time), 29,640 Passing Yards (5th all-time), and a passer rating of 82.37. Falconi also played in 3 Pro Bowls and won the S13 Performance of the Year Award.

Both Stephen Harris and Adriana Falconi were inducted into the Philadelphia Liberty Hall of Fame, and the number 3 was retired in their honor.

Number 83- Paul DiMirio

Paul DiMirio was a tight end for Wisconsin before being drafted by the Philadelphia in S2. From there, he would redefine what a tight end is in the NSFL. He left the Liberty after S8, joining the New Orleans Second Line, but set a precedent in that time. He still holds the record for Annual Receptions at 135 in S6 and is 7th all-time for Annual Receiving Yards with 1597 in that same season. Over his career, DiMirio played in 168 games (5th all-time), had 1,110 receptions (1st all-time), 72 receiving touchdowns (8th all-time), and 11,522 receiving yards (5th all-time). DiMirio was awarded with TE of the Year 7 times, more than anyone else, and appeared in a whopping 12 Pro Bowls (2nd all time). DiMirio was inducted in to the NSFL Hall of Fame with the S17 Class, and was inducted into the Philadelphia Liberty Hall of Fame in their first class, thus retiring his number 83.
