They say the numbers never lie, but in this case they do. The Baltimore Hawks sit at 3 and 8 (the 2nd worst record in the entire league) despite some impressive team stats. With 9 new rookie starters on the team, these numbers look even more impressive. The Hawks have the best rushing attack in the league pounding it out at 180.3 yards per game. Their 2 excellent running backs (Apollo Reed & Darrel Williams) have a very good chance of finishing the season with over 1,000 rushing yards each as teammates, a feat that has been accomplished only one other time in NSFL history to date.

They also have the 3rd ranked overall defense (1st against the run, 2nd in yards, 3rd against the pass) in the NSFL. In addition, Baltimore has the 3rd lowest points against behind only Yellowknife and Colorado. Looking deeper, 4 of their 8 losses were by a total of only 13 points.

While their passing offense has been inconsistent (last in passing yards in the league), it has shown glimpses of what's to come in the near future and their rookie quarterback Fujiwara is a star in the making. With future Hall of Famer Errol Maddox announcing his retirement, there is no better time to honor his legacy than to continue the long Baltimore Hawks tradition of excellent receiving threats. They have been building chemistry each week as a unit and are expected to make a splash in Season 23 as a top air offense to go along with the best running back tandem in the league.

Their final two games are against Yellowknife & Colorado, the top 2 teams in their conference. This will be an important test heading into next season to see where they stack up against two quality teams. They lost both previous season meetings against these opponents; a close game in week 4 against Yellowknife losing 23 to 20, and a blowout in week 5 at Colorado going down 34 to 10. The Hawks are currently riding a two-game winning streak (their first of the season) and are looking to take one if not both of these final two games to cap off the season.

It could be said that if Baltimore would have gotten a few bounces to go their way, they would still be in the playoff race this season. However, the Hawks' locker room does not live in the past, and all signs show that they have a bright future ahead.
