Season 22

:football: :football: Week 1 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@Nokazoa#7820 - Austin McCormick - 9 Rec, 136 yards, 1 TD

A new season has finally arrived and with it a new set of game balls are ready to be given out to the best performance of each week. Coming off a season that saw us win the whole thing the pressure is on to continue that success, and in week 1 we delivered with a nice 23 to 14 win over fellow ASFC member San Jose SaberCats. As has come to be expected in a Second Line game our two headed rushing attack of Gump and Toriki combined for 185 yards and a score on the ground. The offensive line did work as Rubbe and Ulysses combined for 12 delicious pancakes on the night with no sacks allowed, which is to be expected for this elite pair. The star of the night was Austin McCormick in the passing game. The SaberCats had no answer for McCormick as he caught pass after pass in the game. Late in the second quarter we were down by a score and McCormick caught a 13 yard touchdown to tie the game up and give us our first score of the season. Early in the third quarter we had the ball on a drive that started deep in our own territory. On 3rd and 9 in what looked like a likely 3 and out drive McCormick caught a 22 yard pass to keep the drive alive. Three plays later he caught a 9 yards pass on another 3rd down to again keep the drive going. He added 14 more yards on the drive on a first down that set us up on the 20 and led to a 20 yard touchdown reception for old man Jones. If you’re keeping track at home that’s 45 yards in one drive. That’s the first of many times you’ll see that happen this season as I predict McCormick is going to light the league on fire and break every tight end record in the league. Great start to the season everyone!

:football: :football: Week 2 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@Wombat#9068 - Ed Barker - 4 Rec, 51 yards

A tough and forgettable game against the Otters left us with a tough choice for the offensive game ball. We were unable to score any touchdowns in this game with all the scoring coming from kicker Herbert Prohaska. Even with no touchdowns we were up by a field goal with just over 2 minutes remaining before the Otters were able to find the endzone. All that said we decided to give this week 2 game ball to rookie receiver Ed Barker who led all receivers with 51 receiving yards including a 28 yard reception that is good for the longest play of the game for our offense. Austin McCormick continues to be Stan Francisco’s top target with 5 receptions in this game. The rushing duo of Gump and Toriki combined for 134 yards. Inexplicably Toriki only had 11 rushes even though she was rushing for 5.9 yards per carry. We always suck at home against the Otters for some reason. Lets just hope we can beat them in Orange County later in the season.

:football: :football: Week 3 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@Wombat#9068 - Ed Barker - 5 Rec, 108 yards, 1 TD

Just a week after receiving his first game ball Ed Barker decided to go off against the Outlaws and receive his second game ball. An excellent performance all around saw us take care of the Outlaws in a 36 to 14 victory. Barker opened up the scoring with a 4 yard receiving touchdown that is also the first touchdown in what looks to be a long NSFL career. Barker was a big part of the offense in this game as he racked up 108 yards including a game high 45 yard reception. On the drive with that 45 yard reception Barker also had a 21 yard catch that gave him 66 yards on that drive that ended in a receiving touchdown for McCormick, which leads me to... Austin McCormick again led the game in receptions and also added another touchdown. Will there be any games this season where he doesn’t lead the team in receptions? Rookie tight end Rainier Wolfcastle also caught his first career touchdown in this game. Watch out McCormick you’ve got some competition! Gump and Toriki combined for over 200 rushing yards in this one as they both had over 100 yards from scrimmage. Rubbe and Ulysses combined for 15 pancakes in the game as well. Overall I think this is the best game we’ve had offensively on the season. It’s exciting to see everything clicking together for the offense. I hope this is just the first of many excellent offensive performances for the team this season. It definitely helps the defense out when the offense is rolling and scoring and keeping the ball a long time. Next up we’ve got a 3 game road trip that includes our first trips to the newest NSFL teams Honolulu and Sarasota.

:football: :football: Week 4 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@bex#0592 - Marcella Toriki - 75 rush yards, 1 rush TD, 4 rec, 45 rec yards

Road games are always tough in the NSFL. That seems to be especially the case for NOLA as no matter who our opponent (except OCO) is we seem to struggle a lot on the road. This season seems to be the same as we traveled to Austin and came away with a 28 to 20 loss. It was a close one throughout, but we couldn’t quite get it done. On a brighter note we had some great performances on offense from multiple people, but none better than Marcella Toriki who had over 100 yards from scrimmage as well as a touchdown. If not for a lost fumble Gump would have also been in consideration with a very similar statline to Toriki. McCormick and Barker continue to lead the team in receiving. Herbert Prohaska had a perfect game going 2 for 2 on extra points and 2 for 2 on field goals. Hopefully that continues through the rest of what looks to be a long season for us here in NOLA.

:football: :football: Week 5 Defensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@terriblehippo#4928 - Quenton Bode - 16 tackes, 1 TFL, 2 Forced Fumbles

I honestly am not sure what happened in this game. Obviously I can read the box score and the play by play and tell you what happened, but I am still shocked that it did happen. This defense is normally a force and we never let a running back run all over us, but for some reason the sim decided that the defense wouldn’t be able to stop the run today, which resulted in giving up almost 200 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns to the Hahahaha. The only thing I can think of is that our defensive line was getting man handled by the Honolulu offensive line, because between the four of them they combined for 9 tackles and 1 TFL. Meanwhile Bode was sitting there at linebacker doing everything he could to stop the bleeding as he had 16 tackles and also forced 2 fumbles. Mason Blaylock and the Dissector each had good games as well both having 12 tackles, which is also more than the entire defensive line combined. I hate to sound so negative, but damn did we suck it up in this game. I don’t know if that’s because of the second road game in a row or just the sim having a laugh, but damn the last time we gave up this many points was that mind boggling road game against Chicago last season that also makes no sense. Anyway, I want to end this on a brighter note and that is just to again point out that Bode had 2 forced fumbles in one game, which is an impressive accomplishment. He stepped up big time to try and keep us in this game. Let’s go to Sarasota and all play as hard as Bode did in this game, so we don’t let something like this happen again.

:football: :football: Week 6 Game Ball :football: :football:

@TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 107 rush yards, 3 Rec, 37 Rec Yards, 1 TD

A great bounce back performance on the road in Sarasota gave us our first win against the newly formed Sailfish. Forrest Gump led the way with close to 150 yards of offense and added one of our two touchdowns on the day. The majority of the offense came from the rushing attack as Gump and Toriki combined for 195 of our 340 total yards from scrimmage. The passing attack struggled a bit as Francisco went 12 for 31. None of the receivers had more than 3 receptions as Gump and Barker led the way there both with 3 receptions and 37 yards a piece. The offensive line of Rubbe and Ulysses combined for 10 pancakes that helped lead the way for the stellar rushing performance. Prohaska did his part going 2 for 2 on both extra points and field goals. Nice to see the team get things back on track after these last couple weeks of miserable performances.

:football: :football: Week 7 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@JuOSu#0130 - Stan Francisco - 192 passing yards, 3 TDs, 90.8 QB rating

Back to back wins have put us back in the playoff race in the ASFC! After a somewhat forgettable performance in Sarasota Stan Francisco stepped it up against the Hawks and had a great game. He distributed the ball well as 4 different players had multiple receptions and 3 had a touchdown. Leading the way in receiving was none other than the best tight end in the league, Austin McCormick. He led the game in receptions and receiving yards with 6 for 61 and a touchdown. A great performance after only having one reception against Sarasota. Rookie tight end Wolfcastle also had an excellent game with 5 receptions for 24 yards and a touchdown. McCormick and Wolfcastle are our own Gronk and Hernandez tight end duo, let’s just hope Wolfcastle doesn’t go the way Hernandez did...moving on Herbert Prohaska had another good game this time hitting a 56 yard field goal. What a boot! We have a rough four game road trip coming up that will test this team in many ways. We must stick together to endure this tough stretch of games and hopefully make it out still in the playoff race. First up is a rematch of the Ultimus Championship that we won, but this time it’s in Yellowknife. I’m still confused as to how a tiny Canadia town can support a team, but let’s go up there and show them how we do things!

:football: :football: Week 8 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@bex#0592 - Marcella Toriki - 118 rush yards, 3 rec, 17 rec yards, 2 TDs

What a huge win on the road in Yellowknife. The last time the Second Line beat the Wraiths in the regular season was all the way back in season 13. A great performance from one of our star running backs Marcella Toriki. Toriki took over in the running game with 118 rushing yards, but she also did some damage in the passing game catching two touchdowns. In a 1 point game like this every score is so critical, and Toriki caught the go ahead touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Austin McCormick had another monster game with 7 receptions and 111 yards, both were tops for the game. Honestly, I could’ve given this game ball to Stan Francisco as well who had a whopping 126.8 QB rating and threw three touchdowns. Overall, a great performance by the offense as a whole despite fumbling three times. I almost failed to mention the 15 pancakes that our amazing offensive line duo had in this one. They paved the way for Toriki’s big night in the rushing attack. Next up a road trip to San Jose where we have a chance to move up in the standings against a division rival.

:football: :football: Week 9 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@JuOSu#0130 - Stan Francisco - 282 passing yards, 2 TDs, 127.4 QB rating

Another huge win on the road puts us in 2nd place in the ASFC after a big win against the pesky SaberCats. After not getting a game ball despite a great effort last week Stan used that as motivation to go out and have another great game and I just couldn’t ignore it this time. That’s two games in a row with a QB rating above 125, which is really impressive. Stan has thrown 5 touchdowns and no interceptions these past two games. In this game against San Jose he was incredibly efficient at 20 for 28 and almost 300 yards. Both of his touchdowns came in the first half as we were able to get a 14 to 0 lead. Stan was able to distribute the ball to many receivers in this one as six different players caught at least one pass and five of them had at least three receptions. McCormick led the way per usual with 5 receptions for 72 yards and a score, but all the receivers played a part in this one. Forrest Gump made a play at another game ball in this one with 128 rushing yards and 56 receiving yards as well as scoring the only second half points with a late touchdown that pretty much sealed the victory. Now in the third game of this road trip we travel to Orange County to face the ASFC leading Otters who we’ve had some epic battles with recently. Let’s go kick some Otter ass!

:football: :football: Week 9 Defensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@terriblehippo#4928 - Quenton Bode - 8 tackes, 1 sack, 1 PD

An incredible win on the road against division rival SaberCats has put the Second Line in 2nd place in the ASFC. The defense was huge in this one allowing only 10 points and none in the second half. No one on the defense had a better game than our own polar bear Quenton Bode. He was all over the field leading the team with 8 tackles and also had a sack and a pass deflection. His sack came on San Jose’s first drive and it helped that drive end in a 3 and out which set the stage for the defensive dominance the entire game. On the SaberCats second drive they quickly got their first first down, which could’ve easily led to a score and getting momentum, but Bode held Cardrissian to just a 3 yard gain on first down and then on third down he had a pass deflection to force the SaberCats to punt again, which led to our first score of the game. With just over three minutes remaining San Jose was faced with a critical fourth and ten that they had to convert in order to possibly make a comeback, but Bode made the tackle short of the line to gain and the offense was able to run the remainder of the clock out. Allowing only 10 points to a team in position to make the playoffs is a big achievement. Ironside, Jimbo Jr., and Witten all added sacks in the game as well. The secondary as a whole did a fantastic job of keeping the SaberCats pass offense at bay as they held Wright to under 50% completion rate. Now let's go to Orange County and do the same thing to the Otters!

:football: :football: Week 10 Game Ball :football: :football:

@TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 95 rush yards, 4 Rec, 40 Rec Yards
Damn those pesky Otters. We couldn’t get much going on offense in this one. Forrest Gump was the lone bright spot with close to 150 yards from scrimmage, good for almost half of our total offensive production. He also tied for the team lead with four receptions. He tried his hardest to keep us in this game, but we just couldn’t finish drives. Six times we got at or close to Otters territory and failed to score. Prohaska’s leg got tired from all the punting he was doing. Considering how well the Otters did against literally everyone else on the offense I’m impressed that Gump was able to have as much success as he did. Rookie tight end Wolfcastle had a good game with 50 yards receiving including a long 31 yard catch. Hopefully we get another shot at the Otters in the playoffs where we can learn from this game. Now let’s play better against the Outlaws next week.

:football: :football: Week 11 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@Nokazoa#7820 - Austin McCormick - 8 Rec, 128 yards, 1 TD

Way to take care of business against the Outlaws to keep us in the playoff hunt! McCormick with another great game as he is now almost 750 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns for the season. He’s in the top 10 for receiving yards for the season right now, which is incredible. Hopefully he gets the recognition he deserves from the Awards Committee. Of Stan’s 288 passing yards in this one McCormick had 128 of those. Only 16 yards shy of half of the entire teams receiving yards for the game. Down 10 to 0 at the start of the second McCormick caught an 18 yard touchdown pass that put us right back in the game. An exchange of field goals put the game in overtime where Ed Barker caught the game winning touchdown! Barker also had an excellent game with 6 receptions and 68 yards including the game winning score. Could he be a rookie of the year candidate? I sure hope so. Not the prettiest win, but we got the job done, which is what counts. Let’s keep it up as we hit the home stretch of the regular season!

:skull: :skull: Week 12 Offensive Game Ball :skull: :skull:

@Turnovers#4 - 3 Interceptions, 1 Lost Fumble

*Please don’t be offended by this or take this seriously.*

*Coach walks in with the game ball in his hand as he usually does. As he starts talking he takes an overly large knife out of his pants and violently stabs the ball. He proceeds to cut the ball up into pieces as he speaks* What in the ever loving fuck was that? I don’t even know where to begin. Did everyone get too drunk on Bourbon Street last night to come and play in this damn game? Well guess what? Now we are sitting at fourth place in the division with a must win game against a team we’ve already lost to in order to barely make it into the playoffs just to fucking lose a wildcard round game on the road? What a sorry miserable bunch of worthless shit I see sitting in this room. Did you forget how to block on passing plays, because we gave up five sacks in this one. And when Stan wasn’t getting sacked he was passing the ball to the other team. Toriki ran the ball 23 times and gained a lot of yards, but also fumbled it during the game. Did you rub your hands in grease before that play or something? Gump demands the ball all the time, but even when he puts up 164 yards of offense we don’t have any touchdowns to show for it. Shall I continue or have I got the message through your thick skull? Yards don’t mean shit if you don’t score. Look at McCormick over here touting his amazing season with over 800 receiving yards, but how many touchdowns does he have? Not enough, that’s how many. Each and every one of you has shown the capability to play at a high level during this season, and anything less than that is unacceptable. Honolulu comes to town next week and with them comes our old teammate Mach Arianlacher. *He takes a printed picture of Arianlacher’s face out of his pocket and pins in to the wall next to where Gump and Francisco are standing* When you see him on the field you hit him with everything you’ve got. If he tries to rush the passer I better see his ass on the ground line. If he tries to tackle you lower your shoulder and run right over him. This is for the playoffs, and I’m making it personal. *Coach throws the knife and it lands right in the middle of Arianlacher’s face and everyone is completely silent as he walks out the door*

:football: :football: Week 13 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@bex#0592 - Marcella Toriki - 51 rush yards, 2 TDs, 3 rec, 27 rec yards

We are in the playoffs! It was a close one, and it was a hard fought battle, but we did it! Marcella Toriki was the star of the offense in this one as she scored twice. It’s all or nothing with Toriki as it seems like whenever she scores in a game she is bound to score again. To Honolulu’s credit they kept our offense in check for the majority of the game. Holding the offense to only 252 yards, which may be a low for the season, but I’m not about to go and check. Toriki scored both of her touchdowns in the first quarter and we went into the locker room at the half up 14 to 3. After trading touchdowns in the 3rd quarter, which saw Gump get a receiving touchdown, we were up 21 to 10, but the Hahalua scored on a punt return touchdown and got the 2 point conversion to make a 3 point game early in the fourth. With 1:49 left the Hahalua hit the game tying field goal and I thought for sure we were going to overtime, but Forrest Gump had another idea in mind as he had a phenomenal 47 yard kickoff return that set us up in prime position. Then on 3rd and 8 from our own 49 Stan hit McCormick for a 21 yard reception that got us into field goal range. After a nice 7 yard run that put the field goal in manageable position Herbert Prohaska walked out and hit the game winning field goal as time expired! Austin McCormick again had a huge game receiving with 74 receiving yards, which was over half the teams total yards. Congrats to everyone for stepping up and winning this game after that awful game last week. Now let’s go to Austin and kick some Copperhead ass!

:football: :football: Week 11 Defensive Game Ball :football: :football:

@terriblehippo#4928 - Quenton Bode - 6 tackes, 1FF/1FR

In what turned out to be a crucial win down the stretch on the road we came out with a narrow victory in overtime in no small part because of the efforts of our defensive leader Quenton Bode. In the third quarter Bode made a big play when he recovered a fumble that led to a Herbert Prohaska field goal. This turnover was probably the biggest defensive play of the game as it kept us up by a field goal going into the fourth quarter. Without it we would’ve lost by 3 and we would not be in the playoffs. Xavien Adams also needs recognition for being the one who forced that crucial fumble and he also led the team in tackles with 8 in the game. Also, shout out to Dorfus Jimbo for getting 2 tackles for loss and a sack. A nice game for the rookie defensive end. Also, potential Linebacker of the Year Ugarth the Dissector added another sack and a pass deflection to his growing rookie resume. Ironside also added a sack in his last regular season game with the Secondline. A great but short career. I’m sad to see him go off into the sunset. I hope he says hello to Johnny Slothface for me. I miss him. Let’s go out and play our asses off in the playoffs for Ironside!

:football: :football: Wildcard Week Game Ball :football: :football:

@TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 111 rush yards, 1 TD, 2 Rec, 20 Rec Yards, 1 TD

Welp, it didn’t quite go our way in this one, but it was still a valiant effort. Forrest Gump tried his damndest to keep us in this game amassing 111 rush yards and also getting two touchdowns. Honestly the offense as a whole had a great game and it just wasn’t quite enough as the defense gave up a late touchdown that ended up being the deciding score. Francisco had a nice 240 yards and two touchdown game with a 108.1 rating. Rookie Ed Barker finished out an excellent first season at wide receiver with 7 receptions, 86 yards, and 1 touchdown. Hopeful tight end of the year Austin McCormick also had a great game with 7 receptions and 81 yards. Overall we actually outgained the Copperheads by about 50 yards. This young offense is just going to keep getting better. Can’t wait to see what we can do next year. Let’s go out and play as hard as we can next season in what looks to be Stan Francisco’s last season. Until next season.
