Prospect TE Tuckers Authority Issues - Perry87 - 07-18-2017

When the Bowling Green Falcons took the field on the frigid Wednesday evening of November 9th, 2016, leading the charge out of the tunnel was a new face. To face the Akron Zips Senior linebacker Samuel Tarley led the Falcons out of the tunnel of Doyt Perry Stadium and to the sideline. To the casual fan watching on TV or in the stadium, one would have easily missed this change of leadership, however to the eagle eyed spectator, it was an unsurprising sight. Following at a brisk jog at the end of the stampede of Falcons was Perry Tucker, one of the stars of the Bowling Green offense. Normally he would be the one to lead the charge out of the tunnel to the sound of the fight song and the crowds roar, but it was evident to anyone paying attention the past few weeks that perhaps Tucker was not the leader the team needed.

Three and a half weeks earlier, everything seemed normal. Tucker led his team onto the field, to face "That team from up North", the Toledo Rockets. In Tuckers Freshmen and Sophomore seasons Tucker had seen seen his hometown favorite of Toledo dismantle his current team by a combined score of 84-26. In both games, Tucker was unremarkable, hardly factoring into the result. This time however, he was determined to put an end to the embarrassment. At halftime, things were going well. The Falcons were up 28-14, with Perry catching two short touchdowns. In the second half however things started to collapse. A controversial call early in the 4th quarter while the Falcons were still clinging onto a 35-28 advantage led Tucker to charge onto the field and scream at an official. Unsurprising, Tucker was immediately ejected from the game. Surprisingly however was that Tucker didn't leave the field. He continued to yell and point at the officials until a pair of trainers ushered him to the locker room, but not before flipping a table of water cups and throwing his helmet onto the field.

After the Toledo 42-35 comeback win, Falcons coach Michael Collins faced scathing questions about the direction of the team. When questioned about Tucker's future in the program, Collins would only say that he was disappointed with the entire team, staff and all. Privately however Collins made it clear that he had had enough of Tuckers outbursts. The next two weeks, Tucker didn't even dress for the games. Instead he spent most of the games riding the pine with a towel over his head. The media was told that Perry had suffered a high ankle sprain in the loss to Toledo, but when he finally suited up for game against the Akron Zips, something was amiss. No longer did Tuckers jersey bear the large "c" indicating his status as a captain. His play on the field had changed as well. The big bodied, sure handed target was gone, and was replaced by an unfocused drop machine. Less than 24 hours later after the season finally loss to the Buffalo Bulls 2 weeks later, Perry declared his intention to forgo his final year at BGSU and to declare for the NSFL draft.

Had Tucker's story ended there, there's a chance that his troubles at BGSU may have never arose. However the history of noncompliance continued as a week before the NSFL combine, stories surfaced about Tucker being thrown out of multiple Bowling Green bars after throwing loose change at DJs, bartenders and other patrons. The charges of disorderly conduct have since been dropped, but the fact remains that Perry Tucker obviously has a lot of growing up if he wants to make it in the NSFL.
