*Dallas: A Mid-season Review - Kyamprac - 07-07-2020

The Dallas Birddogs are now 5 – 2 on the season with a .714 win percentage. As the team continues to develop and grow, Dallas has its sights set on being the first Season 21 expansion team in the Developmental Simulation Football League to win an Ultimini. The Birddogs recognize that such an achievement will not come easily, particularly when going up against explosive teams like the Norfolk Seawolves – but some of the best victories are those that are hard won through sheer grit and determination.

Rolling over the midseason hump on a three-game winning streak, the Dallas Birddogs have proven that they are capable of fighting their way to the top.

Week One – Tijuana Luchadores TIJ @ Dallas Birddogs DAL

Charged and ready after their successful pre-season run, the Dallas Birddogs made an impressive regular season debut against the reigning DSFL Champions, the Tijuana Luchadores. Splitting carries as a committee, Dallas’ dynamic running back duo gained a collective 151 yards from the backfield, with Murphy scoring a touchdown in the second and another in the fourth quarter. The team’s star receiver, Luca Scabbia, also gained over 100 receiving yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Owens and Medved each earned a sack against Ben Slothlisberger, while McGullager worked hard to stop Tijuana’s passing game with a deflection. Despite Crowbar Theeks’ impressive 131 yard performance and a good showing from Tijuana’s wide receivers, the Dallas Birddogs were able to stay in the game and defeat the Tijuana Luchadores 20-12.

Week Two – Dallas Birddogs DAL @ Myrtle Beach Buccaneers BBB

Watts and Murphy collectively gained 150 rushing yards and the Birddogs receivers gained another 100, but this week the offense was unable to punch the ball into the endzone for a touchdown. While most of this can be explained by a strong defensive performance by the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers full of sacks and tackles, the 13 penalties scattered throughout the game certainly did not do the Birddogs any favors either.

With Kicky Boy earning the team’s only points with a 47 yard field goal, the Dallas Birddogs were horrifically blown out by the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers this week, 33-3.

Week Three – Portland Pythons POR @ Dallas Birddogs DAL

Dallas rebounded from the previous week’s showing against the Portland Pythons in week three. The Pythons defense put up a good fight with 60 tackles overall and 3 tackles for loss, but their offense was unable to get very far. Owens and Cloudera each got a sack on Sam Howitzer, and others on the Birddogs defense enjoyed some success stifling the Python’s passing game with some pass deflections.

On the offensive side of the ball, Mattathias Caliban got Dallas on the board in the second quarter with the first touchdown of the game. Watts made up for a fumble midway through the second quarter by gaining an impressive 160 rushing yards on 29 attempts. Eventually she was rewarded for her efforts when she punched into the endzone later in the fourth quarter, leading the Dallas Birddogs to a 20-3 victory over the Portland Pythons.

Week Four – Dallas Birddogs DAL @ London Royals LON

Dallas went into week four with some cautious optimism as they faced the London Royals, a team that is well equipped with several weapons but had a rough season to date, being 0-3 at that point. Caliban was sacked four times and the London defense limited the Birddogs run to 136 yards. The Dallas defense did what it could to limit London’s progression with some great tackles, but it was not enough to stop the veteran Royals offense from finding their way into the endzone. Jacoby Batista and Danny King had a particularly strong showing, each gaining a touchdown for London and a combined 187 rushing yards.

A pair of field goals kept Dallas in the game and late in the fourth left Caliban threw the ball to receiver Tristian Hex in the endzone, giving him his first touchdown of the season. This was too little too late however, and the Dallas Birddogs fell to the London Royals 29-13.

Week Five – Dallas Birddogs DAL @ Kansas City Coyotes KCC
Week five was a tight matchup between Dallas and Kansas City. The Coyotes came into the game hot and ready after their 33-6 win against the Tijuana Luchadores, but the Birddogs responded in kind with their own awesome defensive performance. Nerdy Name, picked 12th overall by the Dallas Birddogs in the latest DSFL draft, proved his worth with 11 tackles, a pass deflection, and an interception which he promptly returned for 36 yards for a touchdown. Arik Eller stopped the Coyotes in their tracks as well with 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks, while Blackwell and Byron each had a tackle for loss as well.

The Coyotes offense scored two touchdowns, but Name’s touchdown and Caliban’s 203 yard performance gave the Dallas Birddogs a gritty 15-14 win over Kansas City.

Week Six – Norfolk Seawolves NOR @ Dallas Birddogs DAL

Dallas snowballed their success into week six against the Norfolk Seawolves; a team that, up until this point, was still undefeated. The Birddogs defense had another stellar showing, shutting down the Norfolk pass game with 7 deflections, 4 of which came courtesy of cornerback Tomage McGullager. Dallas also recorded 2 sacks, 4 tackles for loss, an interception by Blackwell, and a huge safety by McCoy that limited the ability of the Seawolves to really get their game going.

On offense, the running back duo gained a combined 153 rushing yards resulting in 1 touchdown, and the team’s receivers gained 115 yards. These efforts led Dallas Birddogs to a 24-3 victory over the Norfolk Seawolves.

Week Seven – Minnesota Grey Ducks MIN @ Dallas Birddogs DAL

Finally, week seven. Both Dallas and Minnesota had solid defensive showings, but the Birddogs offense also stood tall with 4 touchdowns shared between Mattathias Caliban, Bob Murphy, Luca Scabbia, and Zoe Watts. It was truly a full team effort that led to the Dallas Birddogs most recent 30-10 victory over the Minnesota Grey Ducks.

With the recent acquisition of safety Philip Stein from the Minnesota Grey Ducks, the future of the Dallas Birddogs this season continues to look up. The second half of the season will be a challenging one to be sure, with four away games and three at home, but it seems reasonable to think that they team stands a real chance of making it to the final.

tl;dr I would like some monies please ???? DAL
