*Bruce Buckley's 13 Pancake Game vs YKW [Week 11] - NicholasTheGreat - 07-11-2020

The Arizona Outlaws were walking out of the tunnel to start their week 11 game against the Yellowknife Wraiths. The Arizona Outlaws are 5-5, a .500 record coming off a loss at Colorado last week against the Yeti. Yellowknife came in with a 7-3 record which is one of the best in the league. They also were coming on after winning their last 2 games against the Austin Copperheads and Honolulu Hahalua. The stage was set for a big showdown as Yellowknife were attempting to further enhance their status as a top contender while Arizona were attempting to strengthen their playoff chances in a really tight American Simulation Football Conference. Both teams ran out and were ready for the action, including Bruce Buckley.

Bruce Buckley was having an up and down season starting at Left Tackle for the Arizona Outlaws. He was averaging 3.6 pancakes per game so far this season in comparison to the 6 he averaged in his rookie season in Arizona. Despite struggling in the pancake department, Bruce Buckley was yet to give up a sack on the season. This was only shared with one other human offensive lineman, the legendary Givussafare Rubbe from New Orleans. The legendary Rubbe was well ahead in the pancakes tally but he and Buckley were the leading contenders for the Offensive Lineman of the Year award as they were yet to give up a sack. Buckley was having a mixed year which fits in with the rest of the squad as the Arizona Outlaws got ready to face the Yellowknife Wraits. What transpired was one of the greatest games by an Offensive Lineman in recent league history. This is the story of that game. The game of 13 pancakes.

Pancake One:
After going through the First Quarter without getting a pancake as well as the Arizona Outlaw defence allowing Yellowknife to kick 2 Field Goals, Bruce Buckley finally got into the game. It was 4th down and 4 yards to go, the ball was on the Yellowknife 39 yard line. The ball was given to Baby Yoda as he went behind the mammoth offensive line but was able to push up and get the first down.

Pancake Two and Pancake Three:
Just 2 plays later, it was 2nd down and 6 to go after another 4 yard rush by Baby Yoda. This was the perfect opportunity for Jay Cue to air it out and have a shot down the field. The ball was going towards star wide receiver Saba Donut but there was a misconception on the route and the pass feel incomplete. As all of the focus was on the ball flying through the air, nobody was paying attention to the trenches where Bruce Buckley pulled off an almighty play. He was able to pancake 2 Wraiths defenders which provided Cue the pocket to attempt the throw to Donut. While the pass in this circumstance was incomplete it provided the opportunity for Buckley to get a memorable moment that would surely not be replicated in the future…
This drive ended in a 46 Yard Field Goal for Quad J. Current Score: Yellowknife Wraiths 6 – Arizona Outlaws 3.

Pancake Four
A few minutes later in the game and after a near pick six and 1 yard Baby Yoda Rushing Touchdown. Another quick permission from Yellowknife gave Arizona the ball. A 38 yard pass from Cue to James Bur’Berry gave the Arizona Outlaws 1st and Goal to go. From the six yard line, the ball went back to Jay Cue who looked left for a quick pass to his main target Saba Donut. Donut was brought down at the 2 yard line for a gain of 4 and almost the touchdown. Bruce Buckley again pancaked his opposition providing Cue the opportunity to get the quick pass off before the goal line pressure could reach him. Cue accomplished the mission but there was a great tackle from Leonard who prevented another Arizona touchdown. On the very next play Baby Yoda received the football and run behind Buckley as he created the path for Yoda to get through and score his second touchdown of the game. Quad J kicked the extra point and the score was now 16 points to 6 with almost 6 minutes left in the second quarter. Within a couple of minutes Bruce Buckley had produced 4 pancakes, and blocked his way for Baby Yoda to pick up 2 rushing touchdowns.

Pancake Five:

The game moves into the second half and Bruce Buckley picks up right where he left on the second play of the third quarter. It was second down with 7 yards to go and Jay Cue attempted to throw the ball to Saba Donut, Buckley pancaked his defender to provide Cue the opportunity the throw but once again Cue failed to capitalise on the opportunity. The drive ended after the next play, a quick 3 and out for the Outlaws to begin the second half.

Pancake Six, Seven and Eight:

An interception from Zamir Kehla, the controversial Arizona Outlaws cornerback provided Arizona the opportunity to get the ball in midfield. However a sack from Yellowknife defensive end Nero Alexander pushed the Arizona offence back on second down and the result was a 3rd and 16. On the ensuing play, the Arizona Outlaws had a 3rd and 16 which resulted in a huge catch and run to James Bur’Berry for 22 yards. Bur’Berry ran an out route and was able to bypass his defender for crucial yards after the catch that resulted in the first down. That wasn’t the most extraordinary play on that snap but the focus wasn’t on it, as the focus is never on the offensive line. Bruce Buckley was able to pancake three blockers and completely demolished the defensive line in order to provide Cue the opportunity to throw the football. Knocking down three defenders in one play is an extraordinary effort. Buckley changed the game and ended up helping Arizona pick up a crucially important first down in an improbable scenario on third and long. The Arizona offence utilised this first down and Baby Yoda eventually picked up his third rushing touchdown of the game at the end of it. Buckley helped keep the drive alive and it resulted in the lead extending for Arizona. The score is now the Arizona Outlaws 23 leading the Yellowknife Wraiths 6 and it is halfway through the third quarter,

Pancake Nine and Ten:

Following the previously mentioned touchdown, Yellowknife reacted with a quick three and out that resulted in them punting the ball back to Arizona. The very next play from Scrimmage saw Cue go deep to Donut for 33 yards. Bruce Buckley was again dominant on this play pancaking two defenders on his way. Buckley again set up the play and providing opportunity for Jay Cue to complete the pass.

Pancake Eleven:

Just two plays later, Bruce Buckley again pancaked a defender helping the Arizona offence in completing another pass down the field. It was first down on the 25 yard line and Jay Cue completed a 7 yard pass to the running back Baby Yoda bringing the Arizona Outlaws into the redzone and a greater opportunity to extend their lead over the Yellowknife Wraiths. Bruce Buckley has again provided the opportunity for Jay Cue to complete a pass leading to an almost first down. Just a few plays later saw Jay Cue run for a 14 yard touchdown to extend the Arizona Outlaws lead to 24 points. The current score was now 30 points to Arizona and 6 to Yellowknife. Arizona had scored 30 straight points after Yellowknife kicked off the game with 2 straight field goals.

Pancake Twelve:

The game goes into the fourth quarter now and Bruce Buckley immediately adds to his pancake total. On 2nd down and 10 after an incomplete pass, Buckley again provided the pocket and pancaked his defender which provided the opportunity for Jay Cue to complete a pass to Trevor Passman which went for 11 yards. Bruce Buckley provided the pancake and opportunity for yet another first down.

Pancake Thirteen:

Just two plays later, Bruce Buckley again affected his pancake count by providing a block and pancake on the Yellowknife defender. Cue was scrambling around and barely got a pass off to Saba Donut. The pass went off only for a gain of 1 yard but again Buckley provided the opportunity for Jay Cue to generate a pass off. The drive ended in a field goal pushing the lead to 27 points with Arizona now storing 33 points in a row.

The Result:

In the End, the Arizona Outlaws won the game over the Yellowknife Wraiths by 46 points to 13. A massive victory over the lead leading squad. It has shown the ability of the Arizona Outlaws and their potential to cause upsets in the lead up to the playoffs and in the playoffs in the end if they qualify for them. It was a large setback for Yellowknife especially in their conquest for homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, a crucial advantage in this league.
Bruce Buckley ended up with 13 pancakes on the day which is a career high for Bruce Buckley and I believe a season high for any players in the National Simulation Football League. This performance boosted Bruce Buckley up the pancake charts and he was now in the top 5 for pancakes which include the Artificial Intelligence players. Bruce Buckley was also one of two human offensive line players who were diligent enough to resist giving up a sack through 11 games. The 13 pancake performance provided a chance for Buckley to overtake and break away from the legendary Rubbe, Bruce Buckley as a result of the performance was now a clear frontrunner for Offensive Lineman of the Year and could potentially be nominated of Performance of the Year. Bruce Buckley has shown himself on the stage and announced his arrival to the National Simualtion Football League.

Finally, another angle to look at in this game is the performance of Yellowknife Wraiths defensive end James Cho. Cho, who wears jersey 51 which is the same number as Bruce Buckley. Cho did not register a single statistic in the game, not a tackle, not a sack, not a tackle for loss. Cho was left with a completely empty statline as a result of going against Bruce Buckley. Buckley completed dominated Cho and shut him down completely.

This was the awakening of Bruce Buckley as a prominent player in this league. The future may be bright for Bruce Buckley but what his future holds is completely uncertain and up to him. As one of the highest rated offensive lineman in the league , Bruce Buckley will have the potential to win several awards throughout his entire career.
