SAN JOSE, CA - Everyone is familiar with the concept of a draft combine: the potential NSFL starters gather in a pro arena to outperform their peers at feats of strength, speed, and accuracy, trying to catch a glimpse of a GM's eye, that glimmer of hope that could ensure that their future is set and their family is well off given the talent of a pro athlete helping pay the bills. What people usually don't know is that the draft is an endurance test for the GMs themselves! They've got to be recruiting, scouting, assessing team needs, and figuring out trades, free agents, and a whole mess of other conditions that make draft night so unique. Finally, the day arrives and the dedicated manager has to sit through 12 grueling rounds of picks, hoping at least a percentage of the picks made pan out.

So was the fate of SabreCats management last night, as they picked well into the 12th round! Given their need at both the offensive line and defensive line, manager Cory Knouse had to do something in this draft to give his star running back a line to run behind and the defensive captain linebacker a crew to assemble and mesh with. This led to the SabreCats picking linemen their first 3 picks, and filling in with a new quarterback, running back, and other needs. In all, the SabreCats drafted 5 linemen, 3 for the offense and 2 for the defense. This type of haul is what the Sabrecats needed after a brutal picking clean of the team in the expansion draft, per sources.

With this new wave of players entering the spotlight, one has to wonder what the starting roster will be for the South Bay franchise come S2. Will they have an almost all-Rookie starting cast? Which of the draft picks will become most valuable and useful in the season? We take a quick look at a projected depth chart here:

QB - Christian Adams
RB - Jack Durden, John Goose/Denzel Diaz
WR - Bailey Cook
TE - N/A
OL - Vincent Sharpei, Jordan Yates, Braden Sharp
DL - Enchilada Charlton, Mac Donald, Chidubem Okonkwo
LB - AC Hackett, Noah Parker, Manny Paz
CB - Xavier Newman
S - N/A
K/P - N/A

There are obvious holes, given there are literally no players on the team capable of filling certain slots on the roster. A few free agents stand out as players that could fill a void, including K Joel Kallems, TE Josepher Kamby, CB Mark Bowden, and CB King Arthur (would have to shift to S). There are other offensive linemen that could be signed to get to a full starting 5, and a few more wideouts that are ready to play depth roles on this SabreCats team. One thing's for sure: there are options out there for San Jose, especially if they have free reign to sign free agents that can play any position. Suddenly, one of those RB draftees could be the SabreCats slot receiver. There's possibilities.

Enchilada Charlton, the 19th overall selection taken by the SabreCats, is here to take questions at this time regarding the future of the team and his own future as a defensive end in the NSFL.
