Blaster Blade - Defensive End - 2nd Overall (@Blaster)
There was no question who we were going to pick at the 2nd overall pick. Having lost Vinny Cox to the expansion draft and sporting only a few inactives to fill the defensive line holes. Well we needed to add some talent on our defensive line. The Colorado Yeti live and die by the defensive game and we felt that adding the best defensive player in the entire draft, yes better than Dermot, would help turn a servicable group in S1 into a huge strength in Season Two. Blade brings elite speed and strength at his position and adds another rushing weapon to the Yeti defense that is already packed to the brim with players that can get to the quarterback. Blaster Blade fits like a glove for the Colorado Yeti and we are very happy with our choice to move our 1st and 3rd round pick to move up and grab the most elite talent in this draft.

Roman Thomas - Free Safety - 15th Overall (@TheDangaZone)
One of the most questioned picks in the draft - many wondered why we picked Roman Thomas this early in the draft. Especially considering many critics thought the best Safety in the draft was Ragnar Kronen. While there is no doubt that Kronen is an elite safety, the Colorado Yeti believe that Roman Thomas is just as good and could be even better. Especially given his chance to shine in his role on one of the best defenses in the NSFL. Thomas is blazingly fast and can cover a lot of ground in the defensive backfield. He's the perfect support safety for the corners playing in Colorado. Given time to grow Thomas could rank among the very best defensive backs in the entire league. So, while many teams thought this was a reach pick, being able to add a talent like Thomas that will ultimately be the ideal teammate. No brainer in the second round.

Big Bot - Defensive End - 39th Overall (@loco)
Much like the pick of Blaster Blade in the first round, adding Big Bot was a no-brainer for the Yeti. We wanted to address the defensive line and make it one of our biggest strengths. Adding a talented cyborg like Big Bot gives Colorado one of the strongest and most active defensive lines in the league. Being able to get to the Quarterback has proven invaluable in season one, and adding another elite talent that can disrupt the offensive flow of the opposing team was too juicy to pass up. While many would assume the Yeti would take offensive lineman at this point in the draft, well, the team decided against that sentiment. Big Bot is also a team first player - another big thing Colorado looks for in it's draftees. Bot has ridiculous strength and, while raw, has all the talent in the world. We expect him to be an inside anchor for the Yeti for years to come.

Jon Ross - Wide Receiver - 47th Overall (@JR95)
Jon Ross was a huge steal. Nothing else can really be said about this pick. While Colorado lost it's depth at Wide Receiver with the expansion draft pick of Jonathan Shaloiko and Dustin Evans entering the S2 draft and being picked to the Arizona Outlaws. The truth was that receiver wasn't the biggest need in the draft for the Yeti. But seeing a player as talented as Jon Ross still on the board in the sixth round just made the choice extremely easy. Ross is your prototypical sized receiver, six-foot-two and two-hundred pounds, but his game is not prototypical at all. Speedy with reliable hands and able to create separation in the slot on nearly every play - Ross is poised to have very good success in Colorado. Adding on top of his natural talent is the team first play that Ross brings. He'll fit in perfectly in the Colorado LR and we feel like if other GMs had taken the chance to look into Ross, they would have realized he was a top round talent. Huge steal for us.

Rich Gucci - Tight End - 55th Overall (@7Sports)
Returning to the team he started on, Rich Gucci is one hell of a tight end. While his development stunted slightly before the draft, which inevitably made his draft stock tank, Gucci brings a very big body to the receiving game of the Colorado Yeti. His ability to create space as a tight end is bordering on elite. The biggest concern about Gucci is his work ethic, but we believe that in Colorado long term and being a friend of star quarterback Logan Noble - Gucci will come around. Colorado definitely had a huge need at this position and to get a very good starter at this point in the draft is a huge benefit for the Yeti. Given his solid play late in season one, Gucci is going to be a very big piece of the Yeti offense and we should see him be among the best tight ends in the league. Colorado feels very lucky to get a player of his caliber at this pick.

Gadget Tech - Offensive Lineman - 63rd Overall (@Tech)
Gadget Tech is an interesting pick. The offensive lineman didn't get much attention with the size of the class but he is obviously a very talented player. Activity might have been a deterrent for many people looking to pick a player for such a coveted position, but the Colorado Yeti feel like they benefitted from other teams unsure feelings on Gadget. Tech is a lineman with a ton of untapped potential and we in Colorado feel we can bring him under our wings and help him turn into one of the better lineman from the draft. He brings great strength and intelligence to the position and is very technically sound. There is no doubt that the weakest area of the Colorado Yeti team is the offensive line and the addition of Tech helps remedy that problem. But it's definitely not enough. Hopefully the development of Tech and helping last years selection Bender Rodriguez back from a lack of activiy can help the Yeti become a much stronger team on the line. But for sure the future of the line needs to continue to be addressed. But a player like Tech, especially in the eighth round, helps start this in the right direction.

Steve Austin - Linebacker - 71st Overall (@CampinKiller)
The steal of the draft as far as I am concerend. Getting Jon Ross in the 6th round was one thing. But grabbing a linebacker with the upside and activity level of Steven Austin, well, the Yeti only get stronger at their strongest position group. The ability to play Austin with the likes of Saint, Tiernan, and Fulton, means that the young linebacker will be able to play his game without being asked to do too much in his first season. He brings huge upside on the field and a great presence in the locker room. Austin is going to be beastly in this league and we were EXTREMELY lucky that another team didn't scoop him up during the previous rounds. The Yeti may now get a reputation for grabbing talented linebackers in the middle-to-late rounds of the draft - having picked the best linebacker in the NSFL in Jonathon Saint in the 10th round of the inaugural NSFL draft.

Bernard Forthward - Offensive Lineman - 79th Overall (@ImCokeZero)
Forthward, frankly put, is just an offensive line body. His upside has hit a wall and he's more about filling a hole over a much worse offensive lineman. We can hold hope that he comes back and becomes a solid member of our line. But at this point, he's nothing more than a body. Not a lot I can say about this pick other than that we needed a lineman. Probably our weakest pick in the draft. But sometimes you just have to go with need.

Torque Lewith - Quarterback - 87th Overall (@Hypodynamic)
An active? This late in the draft? Well for good reason. Every team in the NSFL currently is sporting a starting quarterback. So being a quarterback at this point can be very detrimental to your playing time. So while Lewith has a lot of upside at quarterback, his road to starting is fraught with a lot of perils. Having to fight for the chance to play among very established QBs. There have been rumblings that Lewith has been considering playing Safety for the Yeti and making the entire defense active. We feel like if he was to give Safety a chance he could be an elite level player. But that all comes down to if Lewith wants to take the hard path as a Quarterback at this point or would rather get immediate playing time as a safety for the Yeti. Either way, being able to pick up a talented player like Torque at such a late pick is really something special for the Colorado Yeti and we hope, no matter what he choses, that Lewith will be a great player for Colorado and we know he'll be great in the locker room!

Santana Moss - Quarterback - 95th Overall (@Tyfeld93)
Moss fills a very specific role for the Colorado Yeti. With spots already filled with receivers Hendrix, Law and Ross, Moss looks to be a tweener WR/TE, that will probably see more time at Tight End in multi tight end packages. His big frame and ability to line up and create mismatch problems over the middle makes him a solid pickup at such a late stage of the draft. While we do not anticipate him becoming much more than he already is at the moment. We see Moss being a very solid contributor in S2 and maybe beyond depending if his activity increases.

Post Draft Moves:

COL receive Daniel Robicheaux (Offensive Lineman)
BAL receive William Nasher (Defensive Tackle), S3 8th Round Pick

The is no doubt that going into the season adding another offensive lineman was going to be needed for the Yeti to stay competitive on the offense. Robicheaux is a talented guy but definitely has seen his development plateau. He definitely fits a role for the Yeti though. And only having to give up an equally stalled defensive tackle, a position the Yeti are no strong in, and a S3 8th round pick, the Yeti feel like they've made the right decision to help strengthen the weaker of their lines.

Overall Thoughts:

Overall I feel like the Colorado Yeti did a very very good job at the draft. Many will say that we lost out by not picking a better group of offensive lineman. And while I do feel like getting elite lineman would have helped us in the short term, we have currently added a lot of depth at many positions, a ton of actives and are looking to have possibly the best defense in the entire league. Not having a 3rd and 4th round selection in the draft definitely affected our chances of picking an elite offensive lineman but we made due the best we could. I'm very happy with our S2 Draft and would do the same thing again if given the chance. Big props to @Noble and @Rich for all their hard work they did helping find the right players for the draft. Let's go Yeti! This is our year!
