ISFL  – Power Rankings Week 3 + 4

Since there was a double header, I’ll put where I think each team would have been for Week 3 at the beginning of their breakdown.

12) Philadelphia Liberty (0-4)

Week 3 Results – Loss against Baltimore Hawks: 37-20
Week 4 Results – Loss against Chicago Butchers: 27-10

*Week 3 Ranking 11
There wasn’t too much of a move between Philadelphia’s Week 3 & Week 4 rankings. They went from almost bottom of the barrel to bottom of the barrel.  After losing a close game to Yellowknife in Week 1 Philly has lost by margins of 16, 17 & 17. The team is set to face Colorado in Week 5 and I don’t see it going well.

11) Orange County Otters (1-3)

Week 3 Results – Loss against Austin Copperheads: 26-25
Week 4 Results – Win against Honolulu Hahalua: 39-16

*Week 3 Ranking 12
After a close loss in Week 3 to Austin, Orange County exploded against Honolulu putting up 39 points and absolutely dominating the game. Is there still a little magic left in Franklin Armstrong’s arm? If he can cut down the turnovers this team still has time to get back on track.

10) Chicago Butchers (1-3)

Week 3 Results – Loss against Yellowknife Wraiths: 26-24
Week 4 Results – Win against Philadelphia Liberty: 27-10

*Week 3 Ranking 10
They had the win against Yellowknife and let it slip through their fingers in the waning minutes of the game. If they managed to pull off that win this team would be in the top half of the rankings. This is good team but have been burdened with a tough schedule to start the season and it’s not going to get any easier as the next to matches are away games at Sarasota and New Orleans.

09) Honolulu Hahalua (2-2)

Week 3 Results – Win against San Jose SaberCats: 40-37
Week 4 Results – Loss against Orange County Otters: 39-16

*Week 3 Ranking 5
This team was riding high to start the season going 2-1 with only a 2 point loss to New Orleans.  Then all of that came tumbling down hard as they got utterly demolished against Orange County. This is a very well balanced team and have the potential to win ball games. They have a tough 4 weeks ahead Austin, at Baltimore, Yellowknife and at Colorado. If they can go .500 there they should have a couple winnable games against Philly and Chicago to put themselves in a good position to make the playoffs.

08) Arizona Outlaws (2-2)

Week 3 Results – Loss against New Orleans Second Line: 37-12
Week 4 Results – Win against San Jose SaberCats: 27-20

*Week 3 Ranking 9
They got beatdown bad in Week 3 against New Orleans losing 37-12 but they persevered and beat a good San Jose team to get back to .500. This is a roller coaster of a team and I’m not sure how they’ll fair in the next few weeks. The this team has the possibility of being 5-3 or 2-6 going into the halfway point of  the season.

07) Baltimore Hawks (2-2)

Week 3 Results – Win against Philadelphia Liberty: 37-20
Week 4 Results – Loss against Colorado Yeti: 24-10

*Week 3 Ranking 7
Baltimore is beating the teams they should and losing to the teams they should so far this season. They’re currently destined for an 8-8 season. If they can make a few adjustments this team has the potential to win 10-11 games. Let’s see if they can get it right with a win over Yellowknife in Week 5.

06) San Jose SaberCats (2-2)

Week 3 Results – Loss against Honolulu: 40-37
Week 4 Results – Loss against Arizona Outlaws: 27-20

*Week 3 Ranking 6
I might have been a little off saying this team had the look to start off 7-0. This is still a REALLY good team and if things had gone a little bit different they would be sitting at 4-0 on the season. They had 1 score losses in Week 3 & 4. This team is on the road for the next 3 weeks. They need to go at least 2-1 on this trip to stay in the playoff hunt.

05) Austin Copperheads (2-2)

Week 3 Results – Win against Orange County Otters: 26-25
Week 4 Results – Win against New Orleans Second Line: 31-7

*Week 3 Ranking 8

Where did this team come from in the last 2 weeks? The team managed to squeak out a win against a better than their record represents Orange County and then decimated New Orleans at home. The only other team on a winning streak besides Sarasota this team looked really good in Weeks 3 & 4. If they keep up this rate of play expect to lock up a playoff spot.

04) Yellowknife Wraiths (2-2)

Week 3 Results – Win against Chicago Butchers: 26-24
Week 4 Results – Loss against Sarasota Sailfish: 22-19

*Week 3 Ranking 3

If they had managed to pull out the win against Sarasota in Week 4 this team could be sitting on top of the power rankings. This team has been playing up and down to their competition. All of their games have been decided by one score and it shows in their PF (107) & PA (108) The defending champions are setup to make it back to the Ulitimus but they need to show it with some dominate wins.

03) New Orleans Second Line (3-1)

Week 3 Results – Win against Arizona Outlaws: 37-12
Week 4 Results – Loss against Austin Copperheads: 31-7

*Week 3 Ranking 2

Talk about a tale of two weeks. The Second Line took it to Arizona in Week 3 tripling up with a dominate showing on both sides of the ball. However in Week 4 the team didn’t even look like they knew how to play football. After a late touchdown in the first New Orleans could barely move the ball across half field and were held scoreless in the last 3 quarters. Every team has a trap game in the season so let’s see if they can get back on track in Week 5 against San Jose.

02) Colorado Yeti (3-1)

Week 3 Results – Loss against Sarasota Sailfish: 34-16
Week 4 Results – Win against Baltimore Hawks: 24-10

*Week 3 Ranking 4

Colorado didn’t fall too far after their Week 3 drubbing at the hands of Sarasota. They had a nice bounce back game against Baltimore and should be able to win their next two games against Philadelphia and Orange County. This is a very good team and I don’t expect them to fall out of the Top 3 in these power rankings again.

01) Sarasota Swordfish (4-0)

Week 3 Results – Wing against Colorado Yeti: 34-16
Week 4 Results – Win against Yellowknife Wraiths: 22-19

*Week 3 Ranking 1
The last remaining unbeaten team. This team was the underdog heading into Colorado for Week 3’s prime time match-up and not only did they win they controlled the game once the second quarter started. The team had a scare against Yellowknife but managed to hold on for the win.  If the defense keeps up the pace they have this season expect this team to flirt 13-14 wins.
