*Grey Ducks week 2 Defensive Analysis - ThunderTitan82 - 08-20-2020

The Minnesota Grey Ducks traveled to Norfolk in week two, to take on the seawolves in a one sided affair that saw the Grey Ducks fall to 0-2 to start the season.

Norfolk looked stellar against a Grey Ducks team that struggled to move the ball at all and couldnt handle the Norfolk offense consistently. Ramza proved himself once again, torching the Minnesota defense to the tune of seventeen completions on 23 attempts, 181 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The Grey Duck secondary couldnt handle the air attack, though they did force Ramza to spread the ball around, with none of the Seawolves recievers breaking the fifty yard marker. Although the yard number was low for Ramza with one hundred and eighty one, one Touchdown to one interception isnt great, the rushing attack found holes in the Grey Ducks Front seven easy and often, opening up the passing game. Both Norfolk running backs had fantastic showings with each around 20 carries, and 120 yards. Though neither one of them could find paydirt. The biggest play of the game for Norfolk came from a sixty nine yard punt return that resulted in a touchdown, an obvious blight on the Minnesota special teams corps.

Now were going to breakdown each of the Minnesota defenders plays, and who played well, and who needs to improve.

WASRABI GLEEL: Gleel was one of the few brightspots on the Grey Ducks defense, securing the defensive player of the game honors with nine tackles, a pass defense, and a crucial Interception. He made numerous key stops, the most important play though came from his goal line interception when the Grey Ducks had their backs to the wall. Unfortunately the Minnesota offense was unable to capitalize. Undoubtedly Gleel is going to want to continue his stellar play in the coming weeks, hopefully with a win to follow suit.

CHAINBREAKER : Once again leading the Ducks in tackles, Chainbreaker is the star of the show in Minnesota. Leading a stellar linebacker corps, that is arguably the best in the league, Chainbreaker finished the game with eleven tackles. Unfortunately he wasnt able to secure a sack or tackle for loss, however he made several key tackles and was generally all over the field wreaking havoc. In the coming weeks we will no doubt see him continue to dominate the league tackles race en route to another league leading finish.

JEFFERSON: Jefferson finished the game with seven tackles and a tackle for loss, a solid performance that he will want to build on. He was constantly bothering the Norfolk running backs, unfortunately his effort was not enough as the Seawolves elite backs torched the Grey Ducks across four quarters. Jefferson could continue to be a force on the field and a leader of the Grey Ducks defense with continued play like this.

HILLIARD: Veteran Cornerback Hilliard secured six tackles on the way to an average performance. He wasnt able to make a big impact in the pass defense this week, though this defensive leader is going to bounce back in a big way in future weeks and continue what is likely to be a great season.

MASH: Another six tackle performance in the game came from Mash. He is the third cog in the Grey Duck linebacker machine and proved that today with six tackles. If Mash can continue this level of play, and throw in a few sacks to boot he will finish as one of the great linebackers in the future.

BLACKFYRE: Safety Damian Blackfyre finished with four tackles. A much lower number than the previous week, something he will likely want to improve. The bright spot of his mediocre play came from a few key tackles preventing long plays downfield.

SLOAN: Finishing with four tackles along with Blackfyre, he also made his few tackles by stopping some key plays downfield. The two safeties together helped limit the Seawolves big play potential, keeping the running backs to long runs of 14 and 15 yards respectively. Sloan will undoubtedly want to improve from this game, although he will continue to be one of the leagues best safeties.

BROOKS: Finishing with three tackles, brooks would have hoped to make a larger impact on the game as a whole, although three tackles isnt as small a number as it seems, he was involved in some key srops, making his three tackle performance more impactful than it looks.

GATH: A similar performance from Gath, although he was much more involved, he made a few key tackles on recievers outside, and more importantly drove rushers to the inside towards the linebackers and safeties. However he will need to improve in coming weeks if he wants to draw make a larger impact.

RANGER: Finishing the game with three tackles Ranger wasnt able to cause as much damage as he would want. He was able to snag a tackle for loss, unfortunately that wasnt quite enough to slow down the killer run game Norfolk has.

LENKINS: At games end Lenkins had recorded a meager two tackles. He wasnt able to make any big plays, and couldnt generate much of a threat to the passing game, leading to a lackluster day that he will want to leave behind. Looking for a stonger performance in week three, he should get it against a weaker pass attack in Portland.

BLACKSHEAR: Wrapping up the game with a single tackle, Blackshear obviously wants a greater performance in the future, along with more playing time. He will be looking ahead to week three for a better game.

VINEGAR: Vinegars only tackle was a tackle for loss. A definite highlite for the young DE who will be hoping for more time and more tackles for loss in the future.

There were a few other prominent defenders who either didnt get any playing time, or didnt record any tackles or PD's and therefore didnt get mentioned. The Ducks will be looking for a better result against the Pythons in week three. The offense and defense will need to be able to play much better in all aspects in order to turn this bad start into a respectable season.
