*Single Game Records - Defensive - Cheech65 - 09-18-2020

Continuing the series from last week, today we look back at the players who had the best defensive games of all time in the ISFL.
*Disclaimer: These are records as they originally stood; if they have been matched but not surpassed, those new players are not included in this list.

Defense

Most Tackles Made - Dominic Verns - 20 Tck - S3 W5
In the 28-21 loss in Week 5 to the Arizona Outlaws, the Orange County Otters' safety Dominic Verns managed to rack up a record 20 tackles, with 2 forced fumbles and 1 sack. Though the Outlaws would go on to win the S3 Ultimus, Verns and the Otters would win the next 2. Verns's career may not have been Hall-of-Fame-worthy, but he still managed to make 5 Pro Bowls in early days of the then-NSFL.

Most Tackles for Loss - Jayce Tuck - 7 TFL - S4 W6
In the Week 6 12-10 loss to the Yellowknife Wraiths, Arizona Outlaws defensive end Jayce Tuck had only 8 tackles but a record 7 tackles for loss. The Outlaws would wind up getting eliminated from the playoffs by the eventual champions, the Orange County Otters. However, Tuck managed to win 5 Ultimus trophies, with the Outlaws in Seasons 1, 2, and 3, with the Wraiths in S8, and with the New Orleans Second Line in S9.

Most Sacks Made - Dan Miller - 9 Sacks - S9 W12
In the Colorado Yeti's week 12 21-7 win over the Philadelphia Liberty, legendary DT Dan Miller took out QB Logan Noble a record 9 times. He won Performance of the Year for this game. Although he never won an Ultimus with either the San Jose Sabercats or the Yeti, Miller is still the record holder for most career sacks with 132 and was a 2x Defensive Lineman of the Year and 1x Defensive Player of the Year award winner. His number 68 jersey has since been retired by the Sabercats.

Most Forced Fumbles - Kurt Hendrix - 2 FF - S1 W6
In the 27-21 loss to the Yeti, Baltimore Hawks defensive end Kurt Hendrix hit a mark that has yet to be surpassed, 2 forced fumbles. On the day he also made 15 tackles with 1 tackle for loss. Though the record may not be all that impressive, as it has been matched so many times, Hendrix still had an impressive career. Playing his entire career with the Hawks, Hendrix won the Ultimus with the team in S10, and made both the Baltimore Hawks Wing of Honor and the ISFL Hall of Fame, the latter as part of the S16 Class. Hendrix is 4th all-time for annual tackles with 144 in S1, is tied for 1st all-time for career blocked punts with 2, is 6th all-time for career sacks with 99, and is tied for 8th all-time for career tackles for loss with 72.

Most Passes Defended - Marc Spector - 7 PD - S10 W1
In the 24-15 win over the Sabercats, Otters cornerback Marc Spector made only 6 tackles, but had a record 7 PDs with 2 interceptions. Though they wouldn't win it all that year, the Otters with Spector had already won 3 Ultimus championships in Seasons 4, 5, and 6. Spector was inducted into the ISFL Hall of Fame in the S15 Class, and had his number 32 jersey retired by the Otters. He is 2nd all-time for career PDs with 187, and 2nd all-time for annual PDs with 31 in S10.

Most Interceptions Made - Danny Grithead - 4 Int - S16 W9
In the 44-20 win over the Colorado Yeti, Yellowknife Wraith safety Danny Grithead made a record 4 interceptions, one of which resulted in a touchdown. The Wraiths would not make it past the quarterfinals that year, and the Outlaws would wind up with the Ultimus win. Grithead had already won 2 Ultimus trophies with the Otters in Seasons 12 and 13. However, he would wind up winning the MVP and DB of the Year awards for S16, as he met the annual interceptions record with 10 (which still stands). Grithead was also a Defensive Player of the Year and a Returner of the Year. He is 5th all-time for games played with 175, tied for 4th all-time for career defensive touchdowns with 7, tied for 3rd all-time for career forced fumbles with 16, 2nd all-time for career tackles with 1286, 3rd all-time for career PDs with 180. Danny Grithead is also the 10th-highest-peaking player by TPE with 1400.

Most Defensive Touchdowns - Levon Novel - 2 TD - S3 W14
In the 34-6 win over the Sabercats, Yeti safety Levon Novel managed a record 2 defensive touchdowns off 2 interceptions from 4 passes defended. He also made 5 tackles. For the season, the Yeti would up with a 3-11 record. Novel would play for not only the Yeti in his short career, but also the Baltimore Hawks and the Yellowknife Wraiths. Early retirement left people wondering just what could have been.
