*The Rookie Hymn - dogwoodmaple - 10-05-2020
The Draft is o’er, the rosters set,
The season soon to sim,
But listen now all Rookies here,
To this the Rookie Hymn.
If Quarterback, you lead the team,
You hope the players click,
But no matter what you do,
Try not to throw a pick.
If Running Back, you bear the load.
You run and catch and more,
You spin and sprint and twist away,
And touchdowns hope to score.
If Wide Receiver you have chose,
You hope to save the day,
By running past the cornerbacks,
Much to their dismay.
Or Tight End your player is,
You block and catch the ball,
A little bit of everything,
You’re tasked to do it all.
Or O-Line if that is you,
The anchor you must be,
To keep the defense far away,
And safeguard your QB.
If you are on the DL,
Wreak havoc is your charge,
To clog and blitz and tackle all,
Your play will loom quite large.
Or a ‘Backer if that’s you,
You cover, rush, and hit,
Tackles are what you can’t miss,
And run gaps you must fit.
And a Corner if you are,
Your speed you must rely,
Quickly over up your man,
Interceptions you must try.
Or if you have Safety chose,
You have to do it all,
In run support or deeply play,
Be a hawk to ball.
Kickers they are people too,
Their points all count the same,
Keep your nerves and calmly breathe,
If tasked to win the game.
And so that ends the Rookie Hymn,
Each player need recite,
For the season kicks quite soon,
We start the sims tonight.
