*Dallas quarter season recap - EMPER0R - 10-19-2020

The first quarter of the season hasn't been kind to the Dallas Birddogs. They have yet to win a game this season including preseason.  They currently have the 5th highest scoring offense in the league (2nd highest in the conference) with 15  points per a game, there defense is dead last giving up over 26 points per a game.  No team has given up over 90 points this season besides the Birddogs who have given up 104.  Although there record doesn't reflect it, they do have some players making a positive impact so far.

Cobra Kai -

This is his first season in the DSFL and in his first four games he has been impressive.  He currently leads the DSFL in rushing with 419 yards ( 104.75 yards per a game ). He has done this on 78 carries which gives him 5.4 yards per a carry, which is also the highest yards per carry for running backs with over 10 rushing attempts.  He also has 3 rushing touchdowns on the year tying him for second most in the DSFL.

In his first game against the London Royals he had 18 carries for 67 yards.  3.7 yards per a carry and no Touchdowns.  Not exactly the debut you would like to have, but we had made up for it.

Week 2 he had a monster game, 16 carries for 144 yard only averaging 9 yards per a carry.  Dallas received the ball with less than a minute to go in the half.  The first at there 27 yard line they ran for 5 yards than called a timeout.  Then they ran it again which would defy all logic of calling the timeout after your first win but Kai ended the half with a 68 yard touchdown run.

Despite great rushing performance Dallas ended up losing by 3 points in overtime.

Week 3 against Tijuana  Luchadores he had another great performance.

29 carries for 135 yards.  4.1 yards per a carry and he got his second touchdown of his career.  On the first drive of the second half Dallas drove down the ball 86 yards all on the ground expect one pass for 5 yards.  Kai scores from 4 yards out.

Again, Dallas ended up losing a close game the Tijuana.  They have a solid running attack.  They are tied for first in the ISFL in rushing yards and lead with 4.9 yards per a carry.  They however cannot seem to find the endzone, with only two rushing touchdowns in the first 3 games.

At the level he is playing at  he will surely earn himself a spot in the first two round of the 26 ISFL draft.

Cobra Kia shares the backfield with  another rookie Sirdsvaldis Miglasķēms.

Miglasķēms has 61 carries on the year for 239 yards ( 60 yards per a game )which gives him a 3.9 yards per carry.

He could be a mid round draft pick next season if he keeps up the hard work.

Two rookies as their primary running backs and leading the DSFL in rushing is pretty impressive.

Mattathias Caliban

Draft by Colorado Yeti in the 2nd round of the ISFL.  Wolfie McDummy is the current QB of the Yeti and he is currently playing in his 11th season. It's only a matter of time before Caliban gets called up.

Caliban has tons of upside when he gets to the ISFL, he currently has 575 TPE.

As he looks forward to possibly being called up next season to one of the best teams in the ISFL, he has to make it through this one first.

He is right in the middle of the pack in yards and completion percent, he league's the league in interceptions with 4 and is second to last in passer rating at 60.2

Unfortunately for Caliban, Dallas has been playing from behind a majority of the season and their defense just can't seem to stop anyone.

In week one against London Royals he went 19/31 179 yards,  1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. 61.1 was his passer rating.

Both of his interceptions turned into field goals for they Royals. Mark Callous was his only reliable target.  He had 8 catches for 104 yards for an average of 13 yards per a catch.  With their defense giving up 30 points, there wasn't much they could do but try to force things.

Week 2 against Norfolk Grey Ducks was his better than week 1, but still wasn't very good. 13/26 for 138 1 touchdown and 1 interception  for a rating of 62.7.  They also put up there highest scoring total of the season with 17 points, but the defense gave up 20.  The Birddogs got there run game going but only completing 50 percent of your passing will not win you any games.

Callous did find the endzone in week two but only caught 3 passes for 42 yards for 14 yards per a catch.

Week 3 again Tijuana Luchadores was his worst game so far.  21/35 for 147 yards, no touchdowns and 1 interception for a rating of 57.7.  Callous has 8 catches for 57 yard, 8.1 yards per a catch.  Again, the Birddogs had there run game going strong.  They dominated time of possention, but two blocked punts and Caliban's interception late in the game in the redzone made it difficult to pull out the win .

Week 4 against the Kansas City Coyotes was the lowlight of his career so far.  Kansas City completely shut down Caliban.

11/22 for 144 yards 0 touchdowns and 2 interceptions for a rating of 33.1

Callous had 110 of Caliban's passing yards on 7 catches.

Besides Dallas's two rushing TDs there wasn't much going on on offense for them.

Mark Callous  will be good in the ISFL and as the season goes on we see what he is capable of and can imagine how good he will be when surrounded by a stronger supporting cast

They have solid players on offense, but they just can't seem to catch a break on defense.

Dallas's defense has been dreadful.  They do have some good players on defense but as a whole they cant stop anyone from scoring on them.  There main issue is pressure.  They have only generated 6 sacks which is second last in the DSFL.  There defense has 3 interceptions and a fumble recovery.  There 4 total turnovers is in the middle of the DFSL.  Just looking at there total defensive stats you would assume they are playing better than they are.  They lead the DSFL in total tackles with 234.  That's not a stat you want to be leading in  because that means you're on the field way too much on defense.  Although there defense can't stop much, they do have some great players.

Richard Leaking linebacker

He leads the DSFL in tackles with 48 (12 per a game) and he has 3 tackles for loss.  When he gets promoted to the ISFL he will be very successful.

His best game so far came in week 4 when he had a league high 18 tackles in there 34 - 17 lost to Kansas City.

Byron Blackwell cornerback

He currently is tied for 2nd in the DSFL with 2 interceptions.  He also have 4 pass deflections and 12 tackles on the year.

His best game of the year came in week one against the London Royals.  He had 2 pass deflections and 1 interception.

Another player who will do well in the ISFL, he just needs a change of scenery.

Dallas has some good players, but right now there are way too many holes to fill for them to make a dramatic improvement.    104 points given up in 4 games ( 26 points per a game ) is going to make it very hard for them to win any games.  There next two games are again Myrtle Beach Buccaneers (3-1-0)  and Portland Pythons (3-1-0).  Dallas could very well be 0 - 6 before facing the Norfolk Seawolves (1-3-0).  The Seawolves may the only chance the Birddogs have at winning this season.

They have had some great performances and Corbra Kai is in the running for Offensive rookie of the year.  Unfortunately they just can't seem to string multiple good performances together in a single game.
