S25 Season End Newsletter - bex - 11-06-2020

HELLO ISFL!

Happy Friday! Now that we’re in the wind-down of our 25th season, we’d love to take a chance to talk through a few pieces of news.

Rulebook Ruminations

We’re always looking to improve the rulebook of our league to provide as much clarity as possible. We’ve had a few areas where we’ve fallen short in documentation, and we are hard at work in trying to make right on that. This season, we’ve been in the process of revamping the rulebook once more. Right now it is in the process of HO review. If you have any feedback, feel free to contact a member of HO. We’re working with the ISFL simmer and a number of other community members to make sure we can put forward a better iteration of the rulebook for GM approval during the off-season. This new iteration has been focused around cleaning up some of our rulebook sections, as well as adding elements that have not been properly documented. We’re trying to write down those “unwritten” policies and to adjust the wording to accurately reflect changes that have taken place over our 25 seasons of existence.

Testing, Testing, 1 2 3

Some of you may have heard whispers that the league is looking into moving sims. I’d like to take the opportunity to confirm that we’ve assembled a team that is investigating the viability of Draft Day Sports Pro Football 2021 for our league. I want to take the time to thank the members of that team for their hard work thus far, and wish them luck with the rest of their testing. They’re hard at work looking at archetypes, playbooks, and the many logistical pieces that need to be established in order for the move to be possible. We will keep you updated with their findings down the road!

Sim Team Changes

Speaking of the sim, we’re happy to announce a meaningful change to our sim team. As we continue to grow, the ISFL simmer has a larger workload and the time involved in each sim session is increased. In order to help prevent simmer burnout, the ISFL sim team will be moving to a rotational simmer model. This means instead of having one person who sims all three nights every week of the regular season, we will have 3 ISFL simmers who will rotate. We’ll have one simmer for Monday games, another for Wednesday games, and a third for Friday games! This also comes with a pay restructure for the department, which will be updated on the jobs list and the rulebook soon. We have hired one additional simmer, and will be looking to hire one more. If you are interested in applying to be our third ISFL Simmer, please reach out to bex!

The DSFL sim team will not be changing at this time, as our beloved JPach will continue to fill that role.

We are also still taking applications for streamers! Please reach out if you are interested!

Season 26 Adjustments
The S26 Schedule will be released later today, but I would like to take this opportunity to address one adjustment you’ll be seeing there. We’re allowing for a two-day break (Dec 24-Dec25) so that our sim team is able to spend time with family instead of concerning themselves with dot football on their winter holidays. This means a slight adjustment in how the season will flow, including a Sunday Ultimus. While this is definitely outside of the normal, we’re excited to make the S26 Ultimus a special one. There will *NOT* be an additional playoffs update for players on January 9th. This will be an updater week off, as it would have been if the schedule were the same as past seasons.

TL;DR
- Working on improving rulebook, let us know if you have suggestions
- NEW SIM? Maybe, we’re looking at it
- More simmers! From 1 to 3, hiring one more as well as hiring streamers, tell bex if interested
- S26 Schedule now with a small break and SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY Football

Thanks for taking the time to read our newsletter! This is definitely a brief one, but these are big things for the league. We’re proud to be continually working to improve things! You can look for another update for the beginning of S26! As always, please feel free to tag me with any questions regarding these topics, or to reach out directly!

Best,
