OFFENSIVE LINE

What’s new for Offensive Linemen in DDSPF21?

FAT BOIS MAY NOT BE ALL THE SAME FATNESS??
Possibly the biggest chance coming to Offensive Linemen in Season 27 is that the different archetypes will not all be the same size. Now, before you begin chanting, “Roblox sim when” know that this has been tested extensively and the lighter players not at any sort of a disadvantage to the larger fellas. The reason we made this change was few-fold.
1) We played around extensively with player size and weight throughout all levels of the roster and have all positions in places that make their play more specialized.
2) This allows more player agency for the users and gives teams more freedom in how they shape their offensive line. In the past, teams always placed their human OL players at the tackle spots so they wouldn’t be hindered by the lower BOT weight. This change allows much more freedom for composition of offensive line.
3) The change opens up more strategy options for teams. Do you want to put big bruisers out on the Tackle spots who might have a hard time keeping up with faster pass rushers but can knock them on their butts if they get their hands on them? Do you want a team that is built on speed and setting the edge? This means that teams will have to consider not only their own lineups but also the lineups and strategies they expect their opponent to run when preparing for a game.

QUALITY OVER QUANTITY TRAITS!!
I think I speak for a lot of users out there when I say that in the grand scheme of the league Offensive Linemen feel like a bit of an afterthought. They don’t get a whole lot of flashy stats to look at in the game, and they don’t usually get a lot of fun toys. Going into DDSPF21, Offensive Line players actually have the smallest pool of traits (as you’ll see later). What Offensive Line players do have, however, is access to arguably one of the best – and most expensive – traits in the game. Before you start getting too excited, do know that trying to get this trait ASAP will definitely require sacrificing a well-rounded build, so there are definite tradeoffs.

What’s going on with my archetype?
If there is one glaring issue brought on from the limitations of DDSFP16, it’s that players really don’t feel any different. Thanks to the improved sim logic and the new Trait system, we have been able to create diverse Offensive Linemen that fill different roles better than before. To that end, we have collapsed some old Offensive Line archetypes, and are introducing three for players to choose from. Each of these performs differently than others, so there will be some interesting choices for teams to make when it comes to creating their strategies and building their teams!

MAULER
Have you ever seen a person so large that you instinctively start saluting them and solemnly swear to prevent forest fires? If you have, you may have seen one of these thicc boys. The Mauler OL archetype could also be described as a tank. Large and strong, these linemen may not boast the same quickness their smaller brethren do, but when they get their hands on a pesky defender, especially one of those little Linebackers, they can toss them around like a ragdoll.

ATHLETIC
If the Mauler is a tank then the Athletic Lineman is a bowling ball. As the lightest and most agile of the Offensive Linemen, the Athletic archetype packs a lot of punch into a (relatively) small frame. They’re great for matching up against speedier defenders and getting out on the edge to make way for their teammates, but can sometimes get pushed around by larger defenders. They make up for their lack of size with technique and agility.

BALANCED
If Thanos was an Offensive Linemen he’d absolutely be drawn to the Balanced archetype. Sliding right between the Mauler and Athletic linemen in terms of size, the Balanced Lineman can match up against any defender. While they might not be able to necessarily beat up on any specific type of player, they also won’t get beaten to the edge or pushed around as often as their larger and smaller cousins. This versatility makes them suitable to fill any role on an offensive line.

What are these Traits I keep hearing about?
New to DDSPF21 is the idea of Traits. As your player progresses and increases in ability, you will eventually unlock the opportunity to apply Traits to them. These will have real impacts on how your player performs. For Offensive Line players the available traits are:

TENACIOUS BLOCKER
Tenacious Blocker isn’t flashy, but for every bit of pizzazz it seemingly might not bring to the table, it more than makes up for with usefulness. This trait further boosts a strong blocker and makes them elite. Be warned though, due to its relative strength, this trait will be very hard to obtain.

ROLE MODEL
Role Model is the same for everyone – it makes your player less likely to commit penalties.

This feels like Dotts all over again. Knowing I have no self control I'm probably gonna blow all my TPE on that tenacious blocker trait because it's new and exciting and sounds awesome.
