Archetype Patch 1.01 - JPach - 01-04-2021

Archetype Patches
We released initial archetypes in our player builder and on the forums over the holidays. In the sim transfer team’s continued testing since then, we have found a couple of things we want to change in the interest of better balance between archetypes. While we recognize that updating archetypes is not to be done lightly after they have been made public, we feel that these changes are worth the slight inconveniences that will arise. We anticipate no further changes that will need to be made before the first update of the next season beyond these.

POCKET PASSER BALANCE CHANGE

In detailed testing of the quarterback archetypes, we were generally happy with the balance between passing archetypes and running archetypes as a whole and with the balance between the Mobile and Scrambler archetypes. Among passing archetypes, we found that Pocket Passer was at a different level compared to Gunslinger and Field General, and have updated the archetype to bring it in line with the other “pure passers”.

Compared to what was initially released, we have made the following changes to the Pocket Passer’s maximum attributes:

Accuracy 100 → 95
Arm 90 → 95
Agility 65 → 70

None of the starting attributes were changed.

COMPETITIVENESS CHANGES

Competitiveness, the new attribute introduced in DDSPF 21, gives an interesting rock-paper-scissors minigame within the sim as any tackle involving a ballcarrier and tackler compares the two players’ competitiveness values directly, with the player who has a greater value receiving an advantage in whether or not a fumble is forced on the tackle. The sim transfer team had originally intended for competitiveness values to vary across archetypes as one way of increasing the diversity of playstyles they create. For instance, among RBs, the Speed Back archetype has lower max competitiveness than Power Backs, meaning they may be more liable to fumble against certain defensive archetypes.

When transferring the archetypes from our internal working drafts into the player builder and forums, some of these differences between archetypes were accidentally lost. We have updated the starting and/or maximum values for several archetypes to re-introduce this variance as originally intended:

WIDE RECEIVER

Speed Receiver maximum 80 → 75
Slot Receivier starting 35 → 40

TIGHT END

Vertical Threat starting 40 → 35
Possession TE max 75 → 80

CORNERBACK

Cover Corner starting 30 → 35 , maximum 70 → 75
Physical Corner starting 35 → 40

DEFENSIVE TACKLE

Nose Tackle starting 35 → 40
All-Purpose DT starting 45 → 40
Interior Rusher starting 45 → 40

Any S28 create who has already created as one of the affected archetypes may choose to take a free archetype swap that does not count against either their free DSFL swap or career swap. Anyone who has already started their next update to convert their build into the new sim should be careful to incorporate any of the changes into their update post.
