S27 Rookie Season Review and Arbitrary Ranking
Part 3/3

Part 1 can be found HERE!
Part 2 can be found HERE!

Hello ISFL, and welcome the third and final part of the Class of Season 27 Rookie Season Review and Draft Class Arbitrary Ranking! In this section of this piece, I’ll be covering Safeties, Offensive Linemen, Defensive Ends, Defensive Tackles, and Kickers/Punters. As a reminder of the process, I have taken game stats for all the rookies who have more than 50 TPE, through the end of the regular season, and used them to create an arbitrary score that reflects how the player performs in their given roles. I’ve broken out the class into their respective positions so that we’re not comparing Offensive and Defensive players, like QB’s (who have a higher score overall due to the possibility of both passing and rushing stats) and Offensive Linemen, who only have a few stats with which to judge them on.

Here’s a review of my methodology. As a reminder, positions with fewer stats will have lower scores, so it shouldn’t be used as a comparison or an overall ranking (though one of the tabs in the linked spreadsheet has all players sorted by score). That spreadsheet can be found at the link below.

SPREADSHEET

For Defensive players (CB, LB, S, DE, DT), the formula is shorter, but follows the same logic:

(Tackles + Tackles for Loss + Sacks + Interceptions + Passes Defended + Safeties + Touchdowns) / (Games Played + 1)

I’ve also taken into account the Special Teams players, which are the Kickers/Punters, and when applicable, the Kick and Punt Returners. Their formula looks like this:

(Extra Point % + FG% + Punt Average + Inside 20 + Kick Return Average + Kick Return TDs + Punt Return Average + Punt Return TDs) / (Games Played + 1)

Here we go!

Safeties

1. SparkySparky Boom-man - @FleshBagSoup - Run Support - 227 TPE - 6.40
93 Tackles, 2 FF, 1 FR, 2 Sacks, 1 PD
Much like his namesake from the Avatar, The Last Airbender series, Boom-man exploded his opponents on the field, totaling 93 tackles and forcing 2 Fumbles in his rookie season. Being a Run Support Safety meant he tried to spend more time laser-focused on the opposing RB than he did being a ballhawk, and it seems to have worked in his favor. While he had one fewer sack than his rookie competition in this position, he almost doubled the number of tackles, netting him a higher ranking. His 227 TPE puts him just outside the top 10 in this class, but that’s still impressive. A team that needs a good tackler and the ability to stuff the run would be wise to look towards Boom-man early in the draft.

2. Tre Washington - @Master_Chief_DB - Run Support - 102 TPE - 3.53
49 Tackles, 0 FF, 0 FR, 3 Sacks, 1 PD
Washington has less than half of the TPE of his rookie safety classmate, but that didn’t stop him from racking up an impressive 49 tackles and 3 sacks (impressive for a safety) on the season. He’ll need to earn a little better than he has been if he wants to be a leader in the secondary for whatever ISFL team looks his way in the later rounds in this coming draft. It’s highly possible that he’ll spend another season in the DSFL to try and get his numbers up, so look for him to be stopping runs and terrorizing a QB near you in Season 27.

Offensive Linemen

1. Cheese Farley - @Guriinwoodo - Athletic Lineman - 249 TPE - 4.07 TPE
61 Pancakes, 0 Sacks Allowed
Both of the linemen in this class are studs, and their stats and TPE earning show it. Farley has mentioned that he’s warned the ISFL GMs he’s talked to that he wants to stay in the DSFL and isn’t sure he’ll even play in the ISFL once his time is up, so it would be risky to spend an early pick on him, a shame since he’s 7th in the class in TPE. His stats make him an attractive prospect; with 61 Pancakes and no Sacks allowed in 14 games (that’s an average of 4.3 pancakes/ game). Farley was a brick wall for a Kansas City team that needed all the help it could get en route to a 1-13 record.

2. Maui Waialiki - @excelsior - Athletic Lineman - 223 TPE - 2.47
37 Pancakes, 0 Sacks Allowed
Waialiki is a better Offensive Lineman prospect than Farley, even though he’s got a lower score, just because Farley has indicated that he doesn’t really want to play in the ISFL. Maui is only 26 TPE behind Farley, so his earning is still solid (14th in the class), and his stats are still decent, with 37 Pancakes and 0 Sacks allowed. Most teams need a human offensive lineman, so I could definitely see Waialiki being an early pick, though there have been rumors of him switching to Defense, so take this with a grain of salt.

Defensive Ends

1. Bean Beanman - @"SeymourSnatches" - Power Rusher - 208 TPE - 5.93
54 Tackles, 27 TFL, 7 Sacks, 1 Safety
Beanman is the only truly active and earning DE in this class (23rd in TPE), and his impressive stats, which include 7 sacks and a safety, make him an extremely attractive prospect for any team looking to bolster their pass rush. The SeaWolves, who snuck into the playoffs this season, are very happy to have Beanman pressuring the opposing QB as much as possible, as it’s possible he only spends one or two seasons in the DSFL, as most teams at the next level would be ecstatic to have a DE with as much potential join their roster as soon as possible.

2. Zane Cruz - @Zane Cruz - Balanced - 69 TPE - 4.73
46 Tackles, 21 TFL, 4 Sacks, 0 Safety
Cruz, while sporting a TPE lower than the rest of the DE in this class, has managed to sneak into the second spot due to an impressive 46 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks on the season. It will be interesting to see if he’s planning on coming back to update, as he was on the site relatively recently (1/4/21 as of the time of writing), and some more TPE in his build could turn Cruz into a force to be reckoned with in the pass rush for Minnesota.

3. Mills Wallace - @Griff001 - Speed Rusher - 94 TPE - 3.13
32 Tackles, 15 TFL, 0 Sacks, 0 Safety
Wallace is the third and final of the DE not because he lacks in TPE, but because he just didn’t have the stats to compete with the other rookies. With only 32 Tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and no Sacks, it’s not hard to see why his score is lacking. While it’s possible that the Speed Rusher Archetype just doesn’t result in as many stats, it’s also possible that London wasn’t using him to the best of his abilities, but there’s not really any way to know. Here’s hoping he’s able and willing to earn more TPE to ensure his player growth is reflected in his stats next season, no matter what level he’s playing at.

Defensive Tackles

1. Fergus Callaghan Jr. - @H0PPY75 - Run Stuffer - 215 TPE - 4.00
48 Tackles, 6 TFL, 6 Sacks
While Callaghan didn’t lead the rookie class of Defensive Tackles in tackles (he was only behind the leader by six), he had the second most tackles for loss and the most sacks. The Royals are hoping to keep him for another season or two to make another run to the postseason, but it’s unlikely that someone who is earning as well as he is (20th in the class) will stay in the DSFL for more than one more season. Look for Callaghan to go in the second round, unless he really impresses some ISFL GMs.

2. Daquan Madison - @kingjwm57 - Interior Rusher - 134 TPE - 3.80
54 Tackles, 2 TFL, 1 Sack
Madison led this group in tackles with 54 on the season, but his lack of tackles for loss and sacks means he doesn’t quite push to the top of the list. His TPE earnings are a little lackluster compared to some of his classmates as well, his 134 so far means he ranks at 31st in the class. A lot of teams are looking for an Interior Rusher, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him go relatively early, but likely in the late second round considering his lack of TPE. The Portland Pythons can likely expect him back for another push to the Ultimini.

3. Carter Fox - @FuzzISFL - Interior Rusher - 123 TPE - 3.53
33 Tackles, 13 TFL, 1 Sack
Fox is in the same spot as Madison, with less TPE than most ISFL GMs would prefer at this point in a career, except his standout stat is his tackles for loss, which, with 13, not only has him at the top of the rookies, but tied for 7th in the league. While his earning is slow, Fuzz is an excellent locker room presence, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him picked up in the second or third round by a GM that knows the power of someone like that. The Pythons hope to have him back with Madison next season as well, as the duo were a terror for opposing offensive lines.

4. Candice D. Fitinyomouf -  @TheRealMazatt - Interior Rusher - 221 TPE - 3.27
43 Tackles, 2 TFL, 4 Sacks
Speaking of excellent locker room presences, at the 4th spot in the DT list (with, in my opinion, the best name in the class) is Candice D Fitinyomouf and user TheRealMazatt. One of several SHL crossover players in this class, Mazatt has built Fitinyomouf to be one of the highest earning rookies, his 221 TPE putting him at 15th. His 4 sacks are the second most among rookie Defensive Tackles, so his rushing skills are not in question. Any ISFL GM would be wise to pick up Fitinyomouf in the first round to add not only an excellent rushing tackle, but a wonderful user as well.

5. Marlon Brando - @Menace0528 - Interior Rusher - 219 TPE - 3.13
44 Tackles, 1 TFL, 2 Sacks
Brando and Fintinyomouf are about as close to the same player as you can get, with only 1 tackle, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 sacks separating their scores. While I can’t speak to Menace as a user like I can for Mazatt, his commitment to earning TPE shows, as his 219 TPE puts him at 17, only 2 behind Fitinyomouf. Assuming he can make as good of an impression on the GMs, it’ll be hard to decide between the two players when  draft day comes around, and the London Royals can only hope that he stays around for another season to help them return to the post season.

6. Henrik Von Pigeon - @Keckers - Nose Tackle - 75 TPE - 0.00
0 Tackles, 0 TFL, 0 Sacks
Von Pigeon is the only defensive player that was picked up in the DSFL draft to not see any playing time. With his meager 75 TPE, it’s not hard to see why he would be left on the bench. One can only assume that he’s inactive, as the Ultimini winning Bondi Beach Buccaneers never seemed to need him, and it’s not hard to see him being ignored by the ISFL GMs in the draft as well, unless one of them can convince him to come back.

Kicker/Punters

1. Cade York - @LSUFAN101 - Accurate - 142 TPE - 19.28
19/22 XP, 16/22 FG, 58 Punts, 44 Yard Average, 9 Inside 20
Despite coming into the league 2 games after season start, York has shown his fellow kickers how to get it done, out earning them by a wide margin. His 142 TPE puts him at 30th in the class, but he leads all K/P by at least 44 TPE. While his percentages aren’t as good, the fact that he’s even close with 2 fewer games played means that he tops the list. Look for York to continue his excellent production in the ISFL within a season or two, but in the meantime, he’ll help the Pythons make another run for the finals.

2. Armando Galarraga - @BigUnitBabs - Balanced - 98 TPE - 16.29
22/22 XP, 16/21 FG, 93 Punts, 45.2 Yard Average, 23 Inside 20
Galarraga shone while playing for a Coyotes team that struggled all season. With a perfect extra point percentage and the highest yards per punt average and an incredible 23 punts inside the 20 yard line, it’s not hard to argue for him to be the best rookie kicker in the class, but the formula doesn’t lie. If he can up his TPE earning a little bit to be more competitive with York, the Coyotes won’t need to look for another kicker for a few seasons, as he’ll have those duties on lock.

3. Pink Panther - @Eagle Eye - Accurate - 72 TPE - 14.05
30/34 XP, 17/22 FG, 63 Punts, 42.3 Yard Average, 3 Inside 20
Panther kicked for the Royals this season, and he had an average season in which they went to the postseason. His 63 punts was second among rookies, though he wasn’t great at placing them inside the 20 yard line. With only 72 TPE (49th in the class), it won’t be surprising to see this cat return to London for another season or two.

4. Rotor Wash - @rotorwash - Balanced - 81 TPE - 12.10
21/21 XP, 22/27 FG, 0 Punts
Wash played this season for the SeaWolves, and only played half of his role (the punting for Norfolk was handled by a bot for some reason). He was perfect in his extra points, and It will be interesting to see if he continues playing as only the kicker next season, as his 81 TPE isn’t quite enough for an ISFL call-up, and Norfolk could use him again next season if they hope to get back to the postseason again.

5. Thelonius Junk - @TheloniusJunk - Accurate - 98 TPE - 0.00
0/0 XP, 0/0 FG, 0 Punts
It’s surprising to see a player who earned almost 50 TPE earn no stats, but the SeaWolves let Junk ride the bench all season behind Rotor Wash, who, while he earned less TPE this season, was likely more active. We can assume that he’ll be ignored in the ISFL draft unless he can replace a bot or another inactive kicker with less TPE (his 98 earned puts him at 42nd in the class)

6. Thor Snakechucker - @FunnyGuyNotNicholasAltAccount - Power - 57 TPE - 0.00
0/0 XP, 0/0 FG, 0 Punts
Snakechucker only earned a total of 7 TPE on top of his base 50, so while he makes it into this article, it won’t be surprising to not see him anywhere else, as he didn’t see any playing time for London, and it’s doubtful that he’ll see an playing time at the ISFL level either. With that username, it wouldn’t be surprising if this was a troll player creation, and that would match his earning, though it’s really a waste of a fantastic name.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed reading through everything or only the few things relating to your player or position!
