Prospect QB Erik Gaare has REALLY rough evening on Prospect Bowl day 1

The first day of the S28 Prospect Bowl was one met with great anticipation by fans, media and specially a bunch of very young guys who would finally have a chance to showcase their abilities to a whole variety of DSFL scouts and teams.

With a bunch of players coming from very successful college programs, the lights were never too bright for most of the prospects as several players had good showings on the day 1 of the event.

The same cannot be said, however, about the QB prospect for the Machu Picchu Sols, Erik Gaare. Having played for just one and a half years as a starter for the Colorado Buffaloes, Erik stands rather alone in his class as one of the less experienced QBs coming out of college. And today during the Machu Picchu Sols game against the Chernobyl Radioactives that fact was more evident than ever.

Erik Gaare looked lost in the field. There is no sugarcoating it. He was TERRIBLE. The fact that his only game was sandwiched between two strong performances (with the same supporting cast) by the other QB on his team (IsHe… ReallyInvisible) made the optics of it even worse. The CU alumni was often out of rhythm and out of sync with his WRs and was the protagonist of the most bizarre scene of the day: His complete lack of awareness made him run all the way to the back of the endzone and step out of the field as he was looking down field to find any open receivers. It was a safety and you could see the smiles and laughs coming not only from the opponents bench but from some of his own teammates as well. It was unbelievable. It was bizarre. It was laughable. It was not QB1 worth material.

The weirdest of It all was his resistance to use the one trait that really made him stand out during his college days: Erik had 4 yards on 3 carries, a different player from the electric runner that used to take Folsom Field by storm.

Maybe he was trying to prove his value as a passer, something on his game that has been largely criticized during the last 2 years; or maybe it was just the coach’s game plan. The fact is that 5/38 for 54 yards and no TDs or INTs does nothing to help him change the narrative that he cannot throw the ball. It only really confirms it.

The first day of the prospect bowl event will have to serve as a reminder for the young QB hopeful that he has a long way before becoming a starting QB in this league or in any other league. Maybe it is time for him to really consider changing positions and using his athleticism on another part of the field.

I am sure it will be a long day of thinking for Erik Gaare and anyone who expects him to be a QB in the future. As of right now there is no way some team will spend a high draft pick on this guy to lead their team. Let us stay tuned to see if he can bounce back tomorrow when he’s expected to start 2 of the Sols 3 games. After what I saw today, I would not put my chips on it.

That picture of him definitely has the look of someone living with the fact they had nearly seven times as many incompletions as completed passes.
