*Caitlyn Catowize Makes it in the ISFL part 1 - CrazyCaityCat - 02-26-2021

“You’ll never make it in football!” “Get back in the kitchen!” “BOOOO!”

This was the refrain that greeted Caitlyn in her first game at the University of California Riverside. She shut out the haters. She put her head down in the huddle and concentrated on the play call. It was a run, as expected. The Highlanders were a run first offense and there was no doubt that as a freshman, and a girl, Caitlyn would not be getting her number called very often. She didn’t worry though, she trusted the system, and the coach. They’d given her a chance. That was so much more than any other team in Division 1 school had done. Most had ignored her, a few had outright insulted her, but UCR had given her a chance. She was determined to make the most of it. She had dreams, she’d had dreams all her life of the ISFL. She knew it was a long shot. It was a man’s league, and a man’s sport. Damned if she was going to let that stop her. She ended the game with only a single catch on her only target but, hey, she had got on the field. She’d got to show that she was fast, that she could catch. What more could she ask for?
A year later the jeers hadn’t stopped, though they were usually only heard at opposition stadiums. At home the fans kindly ignored her, even when she made a play. And make plays she did. She was one of the better receivers in division 1 football. She played on a small team so she wasn’t going to be getting any kind of real national recognition, but she was at least getting some notice from scouts. After her homecoming game, where she caught 4 balls for 38 yards, she was approached by a scout.

“Good game out there.”

“Thanks, uh, mister.” She said awkwardly.

“Names Joe and I am a talent scout for the ISFL. We’d like to have you come and work out in our training camp, let the team scouts  get a look at you. Let you have a chance to show off what you could do. What do you think, you interested?”

Caitlyn couldn’t take in the words he was saying at first, it was like she was listening to a song but didn’t know the lyrics. Then it kicked in and she realized what he was saying. “YES! I mean…yes, I’d love to participate. Thank you so much! Please, give me the details and I’ll be there.”
