*All Time ISFL GM Rankings #10-#1 - siddhus - 03-28-2021

You might have been waiting a while, and at the beginning, I was not even sure if we would be able to finish this, but here we are, part 3 to the All Time ISFL GM rankings, where we will take a look at the final 10 GMs that have been impressive enough to make this list. These include GMs that are in the GM Hall of Fame already / Can potentially make an arguement to be included in there. After lots of controversy on the second part of these rankings, had lots of fun talking with everyone, and seeing where their point of views were at, so I encourage any/everyone to let us know how ours is different than your personal ones. Once again, want to give a huge thank you to all of our voters, who managed to put together a solid 1-2 hrs, just to rank these for a media article, and an extended thank you to Numbers and Laser, who along the way, helped write and edit a lot of these, to make sure that we had quality writing, going out with the quality information. I am currently debating on whether I have time / want to do it, but there could potentially be a part 4, where instead of rankings, we look at trends and interesting statistics from the GM stats that are gathered, which could potentially be fun. Lets first lets just quickly recap who else was part of these rankings, and then get into it.

Trophy Case: 3 GMotY, 1 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 8, 9, 9, 11, 11, 11, 13
Points: 145
--------------------------------------------
Opening up our top 10 is our first Hall of Fame GM. bzerkap served ten seasons as the GM of the Yellowknife Wraiths and didn’t record a single losing season until the end of his tenure. Along the way, he led the Wraiths to on-and-off periods of dominance, picking up an impressive three GMotY awards in a four-year span then winning the Ultimus in the next year. Despite the hefty trophy case, bzerkap’s ranking suffers from an unspectacular regular season winning percentage despite entering into a good situation as well as a losing postseason record and a slate of painful playoff chokes. Still, bzerkap’s three GMotY awards ties him for best of all time and his spot in the GM HoF signifies his massive impact on both the league and the Wraiths. This is a well-deserved top 10 rank.

9. @Frick_Nasty
Team(s): Colorado Yeti Co-GM (S18-S20)
Colorado Yeti Head GM (S21-S24)
Baltimore Hawks Head GM (S28-PRESENT)
--------------------------------------------
COL S18: 5-8 (0-1 playoffs)
COL S19: 8-5 (0-1 playoffs)
COL S20: 7-6 (1-1 playoffs)
COL S21: 8-5 (0-1 playoffs)
COL S22: 8-5 (3-0 playoffs), Ultimus, GMOTY
COL S23: 10-6 (1-1 playoffs)
COL S24: 14-2 (1-1 playoffs)
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 60-37-0 (61.86%)
Playoffs Record: 6-6 (50.00%)
Trophy Case: 1 GMotY, 1 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 6, 6, 10, 10, 12, 12, 13
Points: 148
--------------------------------------------
You may know Frick_Nasty from his spot as the current GM of the Baltimore Hawks and the man tasked with rebuilding the franchise. There was a lot of trust put in him, and there is a good reason why. Frick took over a reeling 5-8 squad on the quintessential poverty franchise - the Colorado Yeti with a cool 12 wins over the past four seasons - and left them as a 14-2 powerhouse, all while never missing the postseason. The success of this rebuild was due in large part to Frick’s savvy GM moves, and he was duly recognized with a GMotY award following an Ultimus-winning S22 campaign.

8. @SwagSloth
Team(s): Yellowknife Wraiths Co-GM (S5-S8)
Arizona Outlaws Head GM (S14-S20)
--------------------------------------------
YKW S5: 10-4 (1-1 playoffs), GMOTY
YKW S6: 7-6-1 (0-1 playoffs)
YKW S7: 13-1 (0-1 playoffs), GMOTY
YKW S8: 11-3 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus
ARI S14: 2-12
ARI S15: 6-8, GMOTY
ARI S16: 7-6 (3-0 playoffs), Ultimus
ARI S17: 9-4 (0-1 playoffs)
ARI S18: 9-4 (1-1 playoffs)
ARI S19: 5-8
ARI S20: 7-6
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 86-62-1 (57.72%)
Playoffs Record: 7-5 (58.33%)
Trophy Case: 3 GMotY, 2 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 7, 7, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14
Points: 153
--------------------------------------------
Swagsloth boasts one of the most impressive trophy cases we have seen so far with three GMotY awards and two Ultimus championships across two separate stints. When paired up with fellow top-10 GM bzerkap in Yellowknife, he racked up 41 wins over four seasons with two GMotY awards and a ring. Despite these gaudy stats, his Arizona tenure may have been even more impressive. Taking over a depleted team from longtime GM run_CMC, Swagsloth pulled a nearly unheard-of two-season rebuild from first overall pick to Ultimus winner, with a well-deserved third GMotY along the ride. Accordingly, his improvement-adjusted win percentage sits at 69.1%, a lofty 12% increase over his true regular-season win rate. Swagsloth succeeded in every situation he was put in and truly deserves this lofty rank.

7. @flyeaglesfly29
Team(s): Chicago Butchers Co-GM (S17)
Yellowknife Wraiths Co-GM (S20-S23)
Yellowknife Wraiths Head GM (S24-PRESENT)
--------------------------------------------
CHI S17: 8-5 (0-1 playoffs)
YKW S20: 9-4 (1-1 playoffs)
YKW S21: 7-6 (2-1 playoffs)
YKW S22: 11-2 (0-1 playoffs)
YKW S23: 10-6 (3-0 playoffs), Ultimus, GMOTY
YKW S24: 6-10
YKW S25: 7-9
YKW S26: 13-3 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus
YKW S27: 10-6
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 81-51-0 (61.36%)
Playoffs Record: 8-4 (66.67%)
Trophy Case: 1 GMotY, 2 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 5, 6, 8, 8, 9, 9, 14
Points: 158
--------------------------------------------
Flyeaglesfly has the massive honor of being the highest-ranked GM that is still actively GMing. His resume glows with two Ultimus wins already, one being as recent as Season 26, and a GMotY. Fly also has only managed to have one vote outside of the top 10. After one solid season with Chicago, he was tasked with taking over an aging Yellowknife roster, but managed to take advantage of their prime, winning an Ultimus and GMotY. Just a quick two-season rebuild later, the Wraiths were back on top as Ultimus champions. His stats are impressive, with a solid 61% regular season win rate overshadowed by a sterling 67% playoff mark, and it won’t be too long until he passes that coveted 100 regular season wins mark. Yellowknife still holds a very strong roster and a good chance to make a playoff run this upcoming season. A very deserving pick to make it into the top 7 GMs of all time.

6. @manicmav36 & @iamslm22
Team(s): Baltimore Head + Co-GMs (S8-S12)
--------------------------------------------
BAL S8: 7-7 (0-1 playoffs)
BAL S9: 11-3 (1-1 playoffs)
BAL S10: 13-1 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus, GMOTY
BAL S11: 9-5 (1-1 playoffs)
BAL S12: 8-6 (1-1 playoffs)
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 48-22-0 (68.57%)
Playoffs Record: 5-4 (55.56%)
Trophy Case: 1 GMotY, 1 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 4, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7, 9
Points: 176
--------------------------------------------
NOTE: slm and manic are in the HoF as a duo and we decided to rank them as a duo accordingly. This means slm’s two later seasons as interim GM without manic were discarded. Our last duo that ended up making the list, manicmav and slm, are also in the GM HoF. Manic and slm took over a Baltimore franchise stuck in mediocrity and quickly led them to a period of dominance, putting together a fantastic roster and winning an Ultimus and GMotY in their third season. Perhaps even more impressive, the pair lead the Hawks to four straight Ultimus appearances, a feat they could have capitalized upon more if not for the twin rise of the Second Line in the ASFC. Manic and slm never missed the playoffs in their five seasons, and their winning percentage speaks for itself. They are more than worthy of their high placement.

5. @"Laser"
Team(s): Orange County Otters Co-GM (S18-S19)
Orange County Otters Head GM (S20-S26)
--------------------------------------------
OCO S18: 10-3 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus
OCO S19: 9-4 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus
OCO S20: 7-6 (0-1 playoffs)
OCO S21: 10-3 (0-1 playoffs)
OCO S22: 10-3 (1-1 playoffs)
OCO S23: 11-5 (0-1 playoffs)
OCO S24: 9-7 (1-1 playoffs)
OCO S25: 11-5 (0-1 playoffs)
OCO S26: 9-7 (0-1 playoffs)
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 86-43-0 (66.67%)
Playoffs Record: 6-7 (46.15%)
Trophy Case: 2 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 3, 3, 4, 5, 5, 7, 7
Points: 183
--------------------------------------------
The first of Orange County’s legendary GMs checks in at #5. Laser kept the elite consistency that the Otters had come to be known for, recording nine straight winning seasons and nine straight playoff appearances. His career started with two back-to-back championships, which ironically may have ended up hurting his ranking as he was never awarded the elusive GMotY his entire career. Laser’s playoff record is also somewhat unimpressive, but his postseason mark is somewhat deflated by virtue of serving his entire career in the bye era. The most impressive part of Laser’s GMing tenure may have been his roster building skills, as the team was seen as a serious contender every season of his time with the Otters. While he has since stepped down, Orange County continues to hold an extremely impressive slate of players and his legacy will be felt on the team and the league for seasons to come.

4. @bovovovo
Team(s): Yellowknife Wraiths Co-GM (S3-S4)
New Orleans Second Line Head GM (S6-S9)
--------------------------------------------
YKW S3: 7-7
YKW S4: 8-6 (1-1 playoffs), GMOTY
NOLA S6: 2-11-1
NOLA S7: 4-10
NOLA S8: 9-5 (1-1 playoffs), GMOTY
NOLA S9: 12-2 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus, GMOTY
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 42-41-1 (50.60%)
Playoffs Record: 4-2 (66.67%)
Trophy Case: 3 GMotY, 1 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 9
Points: 183 (note: bovo’s highest ranking was higher than Laser’s, putting him at advantage in the tie)
--------------------------------------------
Those of you who are new to the league might not know the historical ineptitude of the Las Vegas Legion. The team was terrible even before the mass retirement featuring half a dozen of its best players. Bovo’s crowning achievement was building this dumpster fire with nine wins in its last four seasons into the greatest team of all time. Bovo started his GMing career as the Yellowknife Co-GM, a post he held for two seasons. His Wraiths stint was solid, with a GMotY award and a playoff appearance. He was thrust into the role of Legion GM in the middle of a season, tasked with repairing the team’s reputation and its roster alike. In his first few seasons, Bovo rebranded the team and produced some on-field improvement. From there, a series of trades and free agent acquisitions that hasn’t since been matched rapidly flipped the team into the Ultimus in Bovo’s third year, winning him a GMotY. But that was not enough silverware for him. In S9, the Second Line rolled out what is widely considered to be the greatest roster in ISFL history and sleepwalked to an Ultimus title, earning Bovo a third GMotY. Bovo rode off into the sunset, but his work with the New Orleans franchise can be felt to this day in its logo, its “doot doot” rallying cry, and its positive reputation and history of success.

3. @shadyshoelace
Team(s): Yellowknife Wraiths Co-GM (S18-S19)
Yellowknife Wraiths Head GM (S20-S23)
--------------------------------------------
YKW S18: 11-2 (1-1 playoffs), GMOTY
YKW S19: 9-4 (1-1 playoffs)
YKW S20: 9-4 (1-1 playoffs)
YKW S21: 7-6 (2-1 playoffs)
YKW S22: 11-2 (0-1 playoffs)
YKW S23: 10-6 (3-0 playoffs), Ultimus, GMOTY
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 57-24-0 (70.37%)
Playoffs Record: 8-5 (61.54%)
Trophy Case: 2 GMotY, 1 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6
Points: 191
--------------------------------------------
It might be surprising to see a non-HoF GM land at third on the list. But shadyshoelace is more than deserving of this award, and perhaps he can be inducted soon. With only one championship, Shady may not pop out of the list. However, a deeper look reveals that he was able to make 5 Ultimus games, and was finally able to win one in his last season. Even making one Ultimus game takes skill and effort, and earning five appearances in six seasons is extremely impressive. Shady’s regular season statistics are also fantastic: he was able to rock an 70% win rate while also maintaining an impressive 62% postseason win rate. He boasts an impressive trophy case, being recognized twice with GMotY awards plus the Ultimus, and is certainly a worthy inclusion for third place in our all time GM list.

2. @Molarpistols
Team(s): Orange County Otters Head GM (S3-S9)
--------------------------------------------
OCO S3: 8-6 (0-1 playoffs)
OCO S4: 9-5 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus
OCO S5: 11-3 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus
OCO S6: 11-3 (2-0 playoffs), Ultimus, GMOTY
OCO S7: 12-2 (1-1 playoffs)
OCO S8: 10-4 (0-1 playoffs)
OCO S9: 9-5 (0-1 playoffs)
--------------------------------------------
Regular Season Record: 70-28-0 (71.43%)
Playoffs Record: 7-4 (63.64%)
Trophy Case: 1 GMotY, 3 Ultimus
--------------------------------------------
Rankings: 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3
Points: 200
--------------------------------------------
Regarded as the starter of the Orange County Otters' dynasty, there is no surprise that Molarpistols has made his way into the top-2 vote counts. Over his time at GM he had over a 71% win percentage in his games played during the regular season, a number that is better than almost every other GM that has gotten voted into the top 30 in this ranking. But regular season was not the place where Molarpistols shone, notching an incredible three straight Ultimus championships with a 64% playoff win rate. Under his Otters tenure, Molar built very strong rosters, turning Mike Boss from a laughingstock to the GOAT, and the Otters from second fiddle in the ASFC into the gold standard. What’s more, he was able to help develop our #1 vote getter by being their head GM for a while, and all in all, can be given credit to why Orange County has been such a difficult team to play for the whole league's existence.

1. @speculadora

Orange County Otters Head GM (S10-S19)

Rankings: 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1
Points: 210
--------------------------------------------
Speculadora is the greatest ISFL GM of all time, and that sentiment is shared by the voters, who have unanimously selected him first in the list. Spec is one of two GMs to achieve 100 regular season wins with an impressive 68% win rate. Like Molar, he dominated in the playoffs, with the most career playoff wins of any GM by a mile and a mind-blowing 5 Ultimus championships. He led a series of dominant Orange County Otters teams that even to this day is considered one of the best stretches in league history. Spec was someone who did not Co-GM for too long as well, and as head GM even with 2-3 different Co-GMs managed the same success, and taught a lot to everyone around him. Even after stepping down was able to set up players like Franklin Armstrong's HoF career among many others. His dominance cemented the Otters as the league’s premiere franchise, and his 5 Ultimus wins may never be approached. There is really no stat or metric you could make that would not put spec first.

RE: All Time ISFL GM Rankings #10-#1 - flyeaglesfly29 - 03-28-2021

Thank you for the kind words! I couldn't have done any of that without a lot of help from so many amazing people along the way! Also, I love how many Wraiths GMs made this list!

Really Loved this Series!!

RE: All Time ISFL GM Rankings #10-#1 - ReverendOReily - 03-28-2021

I loved this series. I'm happy to see so many familiar faces on this list, and even happier to see Spec at the top (bottom?) of the list where he belongs

RE: All Time ISFL GM Rankings #10-#1 - infinitempg - 03-28-2021

Considering two of the members of this committee are on the HOF committee, I expect to see some nominations for GM HOF soon...

Congrats to everyone ranked! This was a great list.
