ISFL Austin Copperheads Pre Season Game Reviews - Season 28

So as Season 28 begins lets take a look through how our pre season has gone. We have played 4 matches. Away to the Baltimore Hawks, the Arizona Outlaws and the Orange County Otters, and a home game against the New Orleans Secondline. After a poor showing last season hopefully we can show some signs of improvement in the off season to be able to get mor out of the year and get into the Play Offs. These were a couple of tough game against the 2nd and 3rd placed sides from our division and 2 games going up against our fellow strugglers from last year, in Baltimore and Orange County.

Pre Season Week 1 – @ Baltimore Hawks – W 34-16

Week 1 we are up against Baltimore (0-16 in ISFL S27), we manage to pull out a win here thanks to 17 unanswered points in the 4th quarter of the game. Even with the win the team had some struggle on 3rd downs converting only 4 from 12 (33%), and had a similar issue to last year by giving away 6 penalties for 64 yards, we cant be giving away these free yardage to the opposition.  In contrast the Hawks only gave away 2 penalties for 10 yards.

Pre Season Week 2 – @ Arizona Outlaws – L 20-12

Week 2 we fall to a defeat to the Arizona Outlaws (11-5 in ISFL S27), the offence once again struggle to get going, and went without a TD and again only converting 4 from 14 (29%). Once again penalties were a problem, this time 7 penalties for 71 yards, compared to the 2 for 10 yards from the Outlaws. Defensively we held them to 20 points but never really put them under any scoreboard pressure.

Pre Season Week 3 – @ New Orleans Secondline – L 22-20

Week 3 saw us come up against New Orleans (9-7 in ISFL S27) where we once again lost this time with a Safety with 1 minute to go providing the difference between the 2 sides. After a scoreless 3rd quarter New Orleans scored back to back TDs to take a 20 – 13 lead before we managed to level it up with 2 minutes to go. Troen Egghands manages to force a fumble on their 3rd down which New Orleans recovered but forced them into a Punt. We should be able to see out the final 1 minute and 8 seconds. Sadly starting from our own 6 yard line, Daytona is sacked back at the 2 before the next play Tim the Vampire is tackled for loss back in our endzone for a Safety, and ending the game there. In this game we once again gave up too many penalties with 5 for 55 yards and only converting 5 from 16 3rd downs (31%)

Pre Season Week 4 – @ Orange County Otters – L 33-17

Week 4 saw us come up against the Otters (6-10 in ISFL S27), The story of this game is us going behind 16 points to 3 by the half time break. Which is putting ourselves in a difficult spot with the beginning of the season to come.  We do manage 2 second half TDs, one of which a great interception score from Lesean Crooks, before a garbage time TD in the 4th quarter when down 33–10. The same story of the offseason continued a struggle to convert downs with only 4 from 14 (29%) and a whopping 12 penalties for 111 yards.

So to review the offseason we are in desperate need to start converting these 3rd downs better than we are currently (30%) and we desperately need to sort out our issue with penalties we are giving up way too much free yardage, over 300 yards in the pre season, to the opposition and this will cost us big time in the season to come. We look forward to putting the corrections in place and moving on with the season. Lets Go Copperheads!
