*Preseason Squanch Already in Midseason Form - EricNCSU - 04-01-2021

BBC 3 Sports Desk:

The much anticipated debut for London Royals' 3rd overall pick Sam Squanch has been a fireworks display already.  Squanch has proven that he is ready to play and worthy of being drafted in the high first round.

In the first preseason game against the Norfolk Seawolves, Squanch made his presence felt early.  A pass breakup on the first play of Norfolk's second drive, and then a first down saving tackle on the next play.  In the second quarter, Squanch took Norfolk Quarterback Clarke down for a 6 yard sack on a 3rd and 3 play, forcing a punt.  Squanch would finish the game with 5 more tackles and London would win the game, running away with it, the final score 63-14.

In the second preseason game against the Tijuana Luchadores, Squanch once again made an early impression.  On the Luchadores first possesion, Squanch tackled the ball carrier for a 2 yard gain on a 1st and 15 play, knocking the ball loose, which Tijuana was incredibly lucky to recover. On Tijuana's second drive, Squanch made the tackle on 3rd down and 4, preventing a first down and forcing the Luchadores to kick a field goal. Late in the fourth quarter Squanch made several more tackles, helping to preserve the Royals' 31-24 win. Squanch finished the game with a team high (tie) of nine tackles.

By the third preseason game, against the Kansas City Coyotes, teams were starting to wise up that Squanch was a force to be reckoned with. Kansas City did a decent job game planning against Squanch and he finished the game with only 2 tackles.  Late in the game, Squanch forced a fumble but unfortunately it was recovered by Kansas City who went on to score a late TD and seal the win 27-17.

London's fourth preseason game came against the Minnesota Grey Ducks.  On Minnesota's second drive Squanch broke up a pass on 2nd and long, bringing up a 3rd and long which Minnesota could not convert and they punted. Late in the second quarter, Squanch picked up several tackles on Minnesota's drive as they ran down the clock and tried to score to end the first half but were unable to muster any points before the clock ran out. Late in the fourth quarter, Squanch had a critical tackle on a 3rd and long to force a punt but unfortunately, London was unable to score late and ended up losing the game 27-13.  Squanch finished the game with 8 tackles.

The four game totals for Squanch's preseason performance is 25 tackles, 2 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles and a sack for -6 yards.

Later tonight, Squanch will make his regular season home debut against the Portland Pythons.  The Royals' faithful cannot wait to cheer on #59 in the black and gold as he starts his DSFL Career.  Be sure to tune in tonight at 8PM on BBC 3 for all your London Royals coverage.
