*The Late S27 Honolulu Hahalua awards - Gumbaman - 04-12-2021

Split between @CementHands and I
Blame Numbers for this being late

HON Honolulu Offensive Player of the Year  HON

The nominees:

RB Nicholas Ayers - 941 rush yards (4.5 YPC), 621 receiving yards, 9 TDs
RB Cobra Kai - 372 rush yards (4.6 YPC), 828 receiving yards, 8 TDs
WR Jed Podolak - 122 receptions, 1578 yards, 15 TDs

The three nominees for the Hahalua OPOY award span all of its short history - Jed Podolak, who has been a Honolulu player as long as the team existed, Nicholas Ayers, fast approaching his career peak, and Cobra Kai, the rookie looking to make a splash. All three had fantastic seasons this year, so let’s get into the results!

#3. RB Cobra Kai - 372 rush yards (4.6 YPC), 828 receiving yards, 8 TDs
11 points

Cobra Kai had a fantastic rookie season, making plays on the ground and through the air playing both RB and WR. He racked up 8 touchdowns, of which a whopping 7 came through the air. We look forward to seeing what Kai can do over the rest of his career!

#2. RB Nicholas Ayers - 941 rush yards (4.5 YPC), 621 receiving yards, 9 TDs
20 points

Nicholas Ayers has already established himself as a star, but got to showcase his versatility this season. He almost cracked the 1k mark in a year where rushing performance was depressed, and totalled over 1500 yards from scrimmage with 9 touchdowns to boot. Ayers and Kai will form a great RB duo for the foreseeable future!

And the winner is…
#1. WR Jed Podolak - 122 receptions, 1578 yards, 15 TDs
29 points

Raking in 9 of the 10 first-place votes, Jed Podolak wins the S27 Honolulu Hahalua OPOY award in a landslide! The veteran turned in yet another outstanding season, leading the league in receptions and touchdowns. He was key to Honolulu’s offensive success despite some holes on that side of the ball, and we’re excited to see another season from the ageless wonder!

Our next award is…

HON Honolulu Defensive Player of the Year HON

The nominees:

DE Ke'oke'o Kane-Maika'i - 43 tackles, 10 TFLs, 16 sacks
DE Asher Montain - 41 tackles, 6 TFLs, 12 sacks
LB Heinrich Kackpoo - 99 tackles, 7 TFLs, 14 sacks, 4/3 FF/FR, 6 PDs, INT, TD
S Davriel Lavigne - 54 tackles, 2/1 FF/FR, 8 sacks, 10 PDs, INT
S Shawn Dawkins - 67 tackles, 4 sacks, 12 PDs, 3 INT
CB Jim Waters - 97 tackles, 5/1 FF/FR, 22 PDs, 3 INT, TD

The “Great Barrier Reef'' Honolulu defense ranked second in the league by PPGA and first by YPGA, and featured a number of outstanding individual performances leading to 6 nominations. Both parts of Honolulu’s fearsome DE and S tandems were selected, along with two franchise legends in Kackpoo and Waters.

#5. S Shawn Dawkins - 67 tackles, 4 sacks, 12 PDs, 3 INT (1 point)

#4. S Davriel Lavigne - 54 tackles, 2/1 FF/FR, 8 sacks, 10 PDs, INT (4 points)

#3. CB Jim Waters - 97 tackles, 5/1 FF/FR, 22 PDs, 3 INT, TD
10 points

Honolulu lifer Jim Waters kept up his dominance in S27, continuing a career-long streak of 20+ PD seasons and picking off three passes while forcing five fumbles for good measure. With Waters in the fray, the Hahalua defense held opponents to just 271 passing yards on average - good for 3rd in the league.

#2. DE Ke'oke'o Kane-Maika'i - 43 tackles, 10 TFLs, 16 sacks
22 points

Ke’oke’o Kane-Maika’i may have been new to the position, but that didn’t stop him from wrecking offensive lines all season long. One of only two DEs with double digit TFLs and sacks, he was a force in both the run game and the pass game, and paces his position in sacks. Kane-Maika’i is expected to be honored with a well-deserved DEotY award at the S27 ISFL Honors.

And the winner is…
#1. LB Heinrich Kackpoo - 99 tackles, 7 TFLs, 14 sacks, 4/3 FF/FR, 6 PDs, INT, TD
23 points

If KKM wrecked offenses, I don’t think you can describe Kackpoo’s performance with anything other than total demolition. Already a franchise legend just five seasons after his draft selection, Kackpoo lit up the stat sheet pretty much everywhere, leading the team in tackles and turnovers. His sensational season more than deserves the Hahalua DPotY award!

Our next award is…

HON Rookie of the Year HON

#1. Cobra Kai

We only had one rookie this year ;-;

Our next award is…

HON Honolulu Most Valuable Player HON

The nominees:
QB Luke Skywalker - 279/403, 2871 yds, 24 TDs, 6 INT, 103.1 rtg
QB Chika Fujiwara - 198/305, 1973 yds, 14 TDs, 9 INT, 86.1 rtg
RB Nicholas Ayers - 941 rush yards (4.5 YPC), 621 receiving yards, 9 TDs
RB Cobra Kai - 372 rush yards (4.6 YPC), 828 receiving yards, 8 TDs
WR Jed Podolak - 122 receptions, 1578 yards, 15 TDs
DE Ke'oke'o Kane-Maika'i - 43 tackles, 10 TFLs, 16 sacks
LB Heinrich Kackpoo - 99 tackles, 7 TFLs, 14 sacks, 4/3 FF/FR, 6 PDs, INT, TD
S Davriel Lavigne - 54 tackles, 2/1 FF/FR, 8 sacks, 10 PDs, INT
S Shawn Dawkins - 67 tackles, 4 sacks, 12 PDs, 3 INT
CB Jim Waters - 97 tackles, 5/1 FF/FR, 22 PDs, 3 INT, TD

All the players who received nominations for their respective player of the year awards earned an MVP nomination, plus both sides of Honolulu’s midseason QB switch - receiving credit for only their time with the Hahalua, of course. Plenty of players had great seasons this year, so let’s jump into the votes! Users could select four options for this question, so a first place vote was worth 4 points, and a fourth place vote 1 point.

All nominated players received votes.

#6. RB Cobra Kai - 372 rush yards (4.6 YPC), 828 receiving yards, 8 TDs
8 points

Kai epitomized “team player” last season. It wasn’t easy for a rookie known for gaudy DSFL rushing stats to effectively pick up a new position mid-season, but Kai made it work.

#T4. CB Jim Waters - 97 tackles, 5/1 FF/FR, 22 PDs, 3 INT, TD
10 points

The veteran leader of the CB group always found a way to make plays in the biggest moments, such as a two-pick game in a hugely important clash with the Outlaws.

#T4. QB Chika Fujiwara - 198/305, 1973 yds, 14 TDs, 9 INT, 86.1 rtg
10 points

Chika achieved the near-impossible task of joining a team midseason and leading them into the playoffs riding a hot streak. She also put up a few performances to remember, including a game with a dizzying 87% completion rate on 46 attempts.

#3. WR Jed Podolak - 122 receptions, 1578 yards, 15 TDs
15 points

From the start of the season, Podolak was the clear top dog in the Honolulu passing game. On most big plays and crucial downs, you know the ball was going to him. Teams just couldn’t stop him. Jed truly was the most valuable player on the Hahalua offense.

#2. LB Heinrich Kackpoo - 99 tackles, 7 TFLs, 14 sacks, 4/3 FF/FR, 6 PDs, INT, TD
16 points

A complete wrecking ball on defense, Kackpoo elevated the entire front 7 on Honolulu, including a LB corps that featured a young Guy Fields and a mid-season swap at LB3.

And the winner is…
#1. DE Ke'oke'o Kane-Maika'i - 43 tackles, 10 TFLs, 16 sacks
24 points

Is there a better definition of “value” than switching to defense and boosting the entire unit from worst in the league by a mile to 2nd best? Not only did KKM have a great individual season, the difference between Honolulu’s defenses with and without him was profound. Truly, a well-deserved achievement.

HON Honolulu Locker Room MVP HON

The nominees: all somewhat active users in the Honolulu Hahalua locker room.

Honolulu’s LR was one of the best I’ve personally been in so far. Seemingly always active, it was a great place to talk about anything and everything, but we also got stupidly hyped on game days to cheer on the team.

#6. Gumbaman
5 points

Gumba was just a rookie but was always a great presence in the discord server. He became the shadow GM faster than anyone before.

#T4. faded
6 points

Faded may have been a little late to the gameday hype due to his timezone, but everything was better once he woke up. He was always one of the best people to have around and to chat with, and the quickest to console the team after a loss, too.

#T4. Atto
6 points

Attopax was always ready in the LR to drop some handy advice at any time, earning him the name Attofax. He was also the inventor of the “designated war room scapegoat” role, the main source of division in the Hahalua LR. Net negative smh.

#3. OrbitingDeath
7 points

As stated earlier in awards, OD is the epitome of a team player. He came in just wanting to help in any way he could, and he certainly did. A funny, chill user who keeps us active during non-peak hours and was nothing but eager to create graphics and sigs and do anything else that was asked of him by membership. Contrary to his player’s namesake, Cobra Kai, he is the locker room member who shaped a “team first” mentality into a Honolulu locker room culture core tenant.

#2. Numbers
13 points

Numbers made an impact in our locker room the moment he joined. Knowledgeable, approachable, affable… Numbers provided jokes, stories, and quips around the clock helping to contribute to a lively locker room no matter who the individual was. He has contributed in many ways, but a friendly face who helped shape our locker room culture is certainly one of them.

And the winner is...
#1. hexify
18 points

I would say that Hex was the spark that ignited the Honolulu Locker Room, but the truth is that Hex was not a spark. Hex was napalm. While we heard nothing but good things from him from his DSFL days, we heard he was an entertaining, funny user which was enough for us to pull the trigger on him. It took a minute for everyone to find our groove in the locker room, but Hex rose to the occasion of getting our team excited on every single gameday and single handedly took it upon himself to police any negativity or “lack of hype” to ruin the mood. Honolulu’s locker room would not be what it is without Hex, so it is only fitting that our Designated Hype Man is the Locker Room MVP.

HON cutest HON

The nominees: all somewhat active users in the Honolulu Hahalua locker room.

This award is based off nothing, in the poll its description was “idk”

#6. Sid
5 votes

 ingly cute

#5. OrbitingDeath
6 votes

Not as cute as his graphics, but cute by association.

#T3. Numbers
7 votes

What do his numbers add up to? Cuteness.

#T3. faded
7 votes

Unlike his name, he has full cute glow!

#2. Starboy
8 votes

Full Cute Status Achieved!

And the winner is...
#1. Raven
9 votes

Freaking Adorable.

HON Honolulu Hahalua Most Dedicated Member Award HON

The nominees: all somewhat active users in the Honolulu Hahalua locker room, minus GMs.

The user who went the most above and beyond to help the team’s on-field performance. GMs don’t count because they get paid for this smh.

#4. Gucci
5 points
Gucci, well he’s Gucci. He brings a certain spunk to the locker room and to the war room. He was the GM for a few seasons and really gave this team a bright future. Since he’s stepped down he’s been working hard when scouting or trying to make the locker room a better place. He was one of our main scouts and kept the scouting going. He made sure his player would help us on the field while he helped us in the locker room. He’s an amazing dude and a great fit for Honolulu.

#3. R0tzbua
9 points

While r0tz took a step back from the team in a few ways, He still was right there to help us with anything and everything. He would be able to give insight about people, trades, test sims, you name it and he could help. He became Dallas’s Co-GM and worked hard there. He won an Ultimini while helping out Honolulu at the same time. He’s earning amazingly in both the SHL and here. That takes serious dedication to do all that. He’s given his time and effort, we’re glad he’s here and we’re happy he isn’t leaving.

#2. Numbers
16 points

What can I say about Numbers that isn’t already known? He’s second only to 82 on how hard he works. He’s set up sheet after sheet, making sure that we were good in the war room and with scouting. He’s been thoughtful about what needs done and careful not to put too much on someone. He’s even more careful to not put too much on himself. He was doing testing while setting up sheets and scouting. On top of all of that, he did it while in school. He’s an amazing person and he’s perfect for Honolulu.

#1. 82
18 points

82 has been an amazing help to both Atto and Sid. He worked on ways to bring the team to a higher level both on the field and in the locker room. He constantly would offer up his time for test siming. 82 was our main test simmer, all throughout the season he would test sim throughout the night and early in the morning. He went above and beyond anyone and everyone. He’s an important piece to Honolulu. The team wouldn’t be the same without him.
