NYS Week 5 Game Ball Awards NYS

After seeing our first loss in the season, we came back home to Austin to host a must win game against a team sharing the top spot in the division with us in the New York Silverbacks. The first quarter showed to be a close match and a back and forth game. After an interception on the second play that led to a field goal on the opening drive, teams traded punts before Jackie Daytona found Videl-San in the end zone. New York responded with a touchdown of their own to close out the first quarter. After that, New York's offense went home and the Austin Defense stepped up big. We responded to New York's late quarter touchdown with another touchdown of our own with Jim the Vampire punching one in from a yard out. Both teams traded punts for the rest of the half. To start the second half both teams traded three and outs then New York threw an interception to Crooks. This interception led to a drive ending in another touchdown pass from Daytona, this time to Howlett. Nothing else of note happened in the third quarter. The fourth quarter continued to be a trade of punts until Howitzer threw his second pick of the game this time to Bowie. Once again, We took advantage of New York's mistakes and made them pay with another touchdown from Jim the Vampire. The next play the defense stepped up big with a huge stop on 4th and inches and set up for another touchdown from, you guessed it, Jim the Vampire. With one last drive, New York fumbled the ball, though they recovered it, to end the game. This was a huge win against a tough division rival to give us sole possession of 1st place in the division!

Offensive Breakdown

Now let us take a look at what the offensive side of the ball managed to do in this big win! The team looked great in this one as the offense totaled 5 touchdowns on the night. Zoe Watts @Kyamprac  continued her impressive start to the season with a stunning 5.1 yards per carry in the game. The impressive average was due in most part to the big man up front Connor Quigley @WhatAmUs  adding another 6 pancakes from the tackle position tonight. Those 6 pancakes put Quigley at 36 on the season as he looks to continue his impressive performance this season. Ben Alexander-Arnold @Ben  showed his flexibility on the night with an impressive performance on the ground and the air. The FB managed to grab 3 catches for 25 yards and managed another 14 yards on the ground at crucial points in the game. Videl-San @ValorX77  and Doug Howlett @Rufio_NZ continued their form as both players grabbed a touchdown on the night! However, the big story comes from the second year man out of Dallas. Jim The Vampire @Kyle has had a rocky start to his ISFL career. While some think it is the pressure of backing up someone as talented as Watts, we all know the talent that this young man can deliver and we finally were rewarded for our patients in this one. JVT carried the ball 10 times for 42 yards and added 3 TDs, a career high. That is right, it is not a mistype JVT maximized every touch tonight and showed us a little taste of what he can bring to the team on a nightly basis. Congratulations to JVT on his first game ball as a Copperhead!

Defensive Breakdown

A big game against a team that has proven to be one of the tougher teams in the league, and our defense stood tall, pushing them down more than any other team has this season! Holding the Silverbacks to just 10 points is no easy feat, but as this season has shown so far, our defense is always up to the challenge! And wow, are there a lot of great numbers in this one! First and foremost, we had a total of five different players record sacks, two different players record interceptions, a forced fumble, and five pass defenses! It's safe to say our boys on defense were all over the field not letting anything get by! As for some of the big standouts of the game though, I'd like to start first by giving props to CB Maverick Bowie @Tonzy, who recorded 6 tackles, 2 pass defenses, and an interception! It's a huge standout performance to be proud of and shows just how athletic of a player Bowie is from such a tough position to play! Another key performance of the night came from Owen Issac @oji3001, who recorded his first career sack and seems to really be coming into his own this season! LB Dex Kennedy @Dagumpa is another player who stood out, as they recorded seven tackles and a sack, acting as a complete wall against the offense, allowing no one to pass by for free! Last, but certainly not least, our defensive MVP of the game is none other than CB Lesean Paris Crooks @The_Kidd, who just would not stop being a nightmare for the Silverbacks. Complimenting Maverick's play, Crooks went out and recorded eight tackles, three pass defenses, and an interception! It's an insane amount of presence for one player to have, but he made playing defense look easy out there! With such a strong CB duo holding down the fort, we can expect it's going to be a long season for opposing offenses to try and move the ball against them and the rest of our outstanding defensive unit!

HON Week 6 Game Ball Awards  HON
The Honolulu Hahalua came to Austin only a game behind the division leading Austin Copperheads. They left 2 games behind. With another solid performance from our offense and another stellar performance from our defense, our Copperheads improved to a division leading 5-1, with only Berlin ahead of us in the league. Both teams started the game trading punts until a blocked punt by Tyler Mountain set the copperheads up with good field position. 2 sacks though limited us to a field goal to start the scoring. A couple more traded punts, brought us to the middle of the 2nd quarter. Here Daytona found Videl-San in the end zone for the first touchdown of the game to bring the Austin Copperheads lead from3-0 to 10-0. The very next drive was a long one for Honolulu. They found themselves at 1st and 10 on our 13 yard line. Due to a holding penalty on Krashwagen, that's as far as they got as the defense held them to a field goal on 4th and 12 on the 16 yard line. One more punt brought us to halftime where we had a wonderful performance from the Vandergriff High School marching band.
First drive of the second half saw us punt, and while that seems not ideal, it set up well for the fumble recovery returned for a touchdown by Kennedy on the 15 yard line. Bloomfield's kick was good to make it 17-3. The very next drive, Honolulu brought the ball all the way to our 8 yard line to set up a 1st and goal, but that's as far as they got as our defense set up another red zone stop to hold them to a field goal. A fumble by Austin allowed Honolulu to get the ball once more and bring the ball all the way to our 1 yard line this time for 1st and goal. And once again, they left with nothing more than a field goal as the defense stepped up big on a goal line stand. Another punt for each team brings us to halfway through the 4th quarter where another Daytona to Videl-San connection brings us to 24-9. A Honolulu punt gives Austin another long drive ending with another Bloomfield field goal to give us our final score of the game 27-9. Great defensive showing and a wonderful streak of 7 straight quarters without a touchdown against for our defense.

Offensive Breakdown

Big Game? In need of a win? No problem! As usual, the Copperheads offense proves to be one of the most capable units in the ISFL, ESPECIALLY, when you're talking about the ASFC. To kick things off, let's talk about the rushing game! Our RBs Zoe Watts @Kyamprac  and Jim The Vampire @Kyle  were once again in top form, running all over the Hahalua's defense. Watts ran for 48 yards, and JTV ran for 95, combining for a grand whopper of 143 yards! Once again, they prove to be a very efficient duo of halfbacks that the team can lean on. And speaking of which, our receiving core was also as reliable as ever! For a change of pace, it was actually a Mr.Doug Howlett @Rufio_NZ  who led our group in receiving yards in this game, with 5 catches for 68 yards, with one catch even going a whole 21 yards! However, not to be outdone, Videl-San @ValorX77 caught 4 passes for 37 yards, but brought the ball in for TWO touchdowns! And I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't mention E Jeeta @QuirkyTurtle, who caught all three passes thrown their way, for 47 yards, with one catch going for a whole 34 yards! Safe to say this WR group is going to remain crushing it with the consistency they continue to show week in and week out!
But now we get to Charity Man himself! That's right, your game ball winner of the week here is none other than everyone's favorite QB, Jackie Daytona @Mooty99 ! In what was one of cleanest games yet, he completed 16 of 24 passes for 171 yards, two touchdowns, and NO TURNOVERS. While there won't be any donations in his name this week, he did donate quite a bit to his receivers, spreading the ball all over the field, connecting with SIX different targets. It goes to show not only the receiving depth we have, but just how in tune Daytona is with his squad. If Daytona and Co. can keep these numbers up, then it's going to be hard to deny that when you say Austin, you're talking ULTIMUS!

Defensive Breakdown

They say defense wins championships, and based off of the success of our team so far this season I would not doubt it. We had a huge test coming in to Week 6 against the Hahalua and everyone on our defense seemed ready for the task. When you don't allow the opposing team to score a touchdown and hold them to just three field goals on the night, you are doing something right, and it is just fun to watch this team's defense work right now. Against Honolulu we had guys like Tyler Montain @Amidships and Brach Thomaslacher @RDBSouthPaw flying all over the field combining for 16 tackles on the night, and let's not forget the huge blocked punt by Tyler Montain in the first quarter. Our defensive backs were spot on all night, holding Fujiwara to a mere 54.1% completion rating and racking up 10 PDs in the process, and to top that off Hamish MacAndrew @IthicaHawk got his second pick of the season to put the game on ice late in the fourth quarter.  And we can't forget about that awesome defensive line play we have had so far this season. Our big boys up front are showing their worth day in and day out and they showed up big in week 6 again helping us keep Honolulu under 100 yards rushing on the night. Once again though, star players show their star quality in big games, and Kennedy @Dagumpa  once again showed us why we wanted him here so badly as he had another outstanding performance on the field with 7 tackles and another strip sack that he took all the way to the house to help us really assert our dominance over the Hahalua. Kennedy is having an amazing season here in Austin as he continues to add to his game ball collection, but he is not the only one. This whole defensive core is looking strong, and they showing why Austin may just be the team to beat this season.

SJS Week 7 Game Ball Awards  SJS

With a dominant home win against Honolulu behind them, your Austin Copperheads hop on a plane and head to San Jose to play the Sabercats. With San Jose sitting at 2-4 it’s not been the season they would have hoped  for but they’re still a dangerous team, although they have a 2-2 record away from home and a 0-2 record at home coming into this one. Austin come into this one with a 5-1 record and they’re sitting pretty at the top of the ASFC division. They’d be hoping for a different result than their last away game which ended in a 22-20 defeat away to Orange County.
Austin started the game with receiving the opening kickoff. That opening drive lasted for five and a half minutes and ended in a Jim the Vampire one yard touchdown. On San Jose’s opening drive they have two plays that go for seven yards, the third play ends in a interception for Maverick Bowie that Bowie returns forty yards for a touchdown and Austin go up 14-0 seven minutes into the 1st quarter. On the next San Jose drive they take the ball up to the Austin’s thirty yard lane but take a big sack to give themselves a 3rd and 21 which they can’t convert. But their kicker extraordinaire, Matthew McDairmid, kicks a fifty nine yard field goal to take the score to 14-3 with just over three minutes left in the 1st quarter. Austin’s next drive lasts for just over three minutes and gets to the San Jose 32 yard line but Leo Bloomfield misses the field goal attempt.
Onto the second quarter and a minute and a half into it, San Jose get their 1st touchdown of the game with a thirty nine yard run by Jamar Lackson to make the score 14-10 and bring San Jose within four. Austin get the ball back and in a five minute drive they take the ball to the seventeen yard line of San Jose but are forced into a thirty three yard field goal which Bloomfield converts to stretch Austin’s lead back to a touchdown. A quick three and out for San Jose gives Austin the ball back with just over seven minutes left in the 2nd. Austin have a efficient five minute drive which ends in a twenty five yard touchdown pass from charity man Jackie Daytona to Doug Howlett. The score now at 24-10 to Austin with two and a half minutes left in the 2nd. In the rest of the 2nd quarter the ball goes nowhere.
Into the 2nd half and it’s a strong 24-10 lead for Austin. San Jose receive the ball from the kickoff. Another drive for them stalls in field goal range and McDairmid knocks the FG in from forty nine yards. The score is 24-13 with three minutes gone in the 3rd quarter. On the ensuing Austin drive, which includes two big plays to Videl-San, Bloomfield kicks a twenty seven yard field goal to push the lead back to two touchdowns with seven minutes left in the 3rd. On the very next play after the kickoff back to San Jose, Tyler Montain forces Tugg Speedman into a fumble which Montain recovers on the thirty two yard line of San Jose and Montain returns the fumble for one yard which sets up Austin in great position to push the lead even further. After a few plays they get up to the 9 yard line, it’s that combination of Daytona to Howlett again for another touchdown and the score is now 34-13 with four and a half minutes left in the 3rd quarter. It would be Austin’s last points of the day but they had opened up enough of a gap that the win was in the bag.
Just before the end of the fourth quarter, San Jose got another field goal as McDairmid put one in from thirty nine yards. There would then be the longest break in the game without points as it would take till just under seven minutes left in the 4th for McDairmid to get his fourth field goal of the day to get the score to 34-19. With just over a minute left, a twenty yard touchdown pass from Monty Jack to Tugg Speedman cuts the Austin lead to eight points but that would be the last points of the game. The final score was Austin 34 - 26 San Jose. A good win on the road and the Austin train keeps rolling on to a 6-1 record.

Offensive Breakdown

On a day when the rushing part of the Offense couldn’t really get going, Daytona @Mooty99  and the receivers were able to pick up the slack in a big way. Daytona ended up with 332 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 116 passer rating, no interceptions and a 70.3 completion percentage. Videl-San @ValorX77 was able to pull in five receptions from seven targets for ninety five yards. But the offensive game ball for today is going to Doug Howlett @Rufio_NZ  for his two touchdown performance. Howlett also managed ninety nine yards on eight receptions from eleven targets. A great performance from the Offense!

Defensive Breakdown

On the defensive side a few performances stand out. Dax Kennedy @Dagumpa  with eleven tackles, a tackle for a loss a pass deflection and a sack. Also Tyler Montain @Amidships who also had eleven tackles, that big forced fumble and the fumble recovery. The game ball is going to the microwave man Maverick Bowie @Tonzy for his seven tackles and that big interception he returned for a touchdown in the 1st quarter. Let’s keep this strong defensive performance going!
